tschuy··on Are US EV sales a disaster or a booming segment? The answer may be both
For at least one of the most toxic additives in tires, Washington State's Department of Ecology and some West Coast tribes are leading the push to prohibit, with the caveat that researchers are still looking for a suitable replacement:

tschuy··on Plants that are signs of former human settlements
Similarly, in the Pacific Northwest, patches of berries and other edible plants may be remnants of Indian/First Nation settlements:

tschuy··on California bullet train cost surges by $2.8B
Caltrain is being electrified right now and due to be done in six years, and of course CA High Speed Rail is going to be electric.
tschuy··on Why Raspberry Pi Isn't Vulnerable to Spectre or Meltdown
Transatlantic flights average 75 mpg per passenger, but can be up to almost 100 mpg per passenger:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_economy_in_aircraft

Jet fuel is 37.4 MJ/L; compare to gasoline at 34.2:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_density#Energy_densitie...

An electric car will have up to 150 miles-per-gallon equivalent (aka 150 miles per the same amount of energy that's in one gallon of gasoline):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miles_per_gallon_gasoline_equi...

So therefore, an electric car with just the driver is more efficient energy-wise than an airplane, while an average airplane is better than a gas car with even three people in it.

tschuy··on Dot Watch – A braille and tactile smartwatch
I could potentially see technology like this being useful even for people without vision issues. The ability to read information from a display without needing to glance down at the watch would be great.
tschuy··on LibreTaxi – A free and open source alternative to Uber and Lyft
it's super popular in France, at the very least.
tschuy··on Printable 1:24000 topographic maps for the entire US
Similarly, the French government has some great maps up: http://www.geoportail.gouv.fr/accueil

It's in French, unfortunately for the Anglophone world, but they also have aerial maps dating back to the 30s under the advanced explorer.

tschuy··on The Day I Got My Green Card
In SFO most recently, I was welcomed back only after I thanked the guy at passport control and told him to have a good day. It really depends on how passport control feels that day.
tschuy··on US Cellular Now a Part of Project Fi's Network
T-Mobile was the first US carrier to give free Intl roaming. I'm currently using it and it's worked great for months.

And because having your fine location cross the wire unencrypted is a terrible idea :)

Perhaps you could make one in every x links be an affiliate link with your key, and the IAP get rid of that?

However, then you wind up with 1,000 different products with 1,000 different design languages, if the designs are even thought through well enough to be considered having a design language.

Hey, I'm actually the one who has the Heroku instance this is on. I'll go ahead and update it, I think the database ran out of space...

EDIT: it's all nicely updated. It should pull in links for a good long while now :)

tschuy··on Voice Quality on Smart Phones Still Sucks (2014)
The Nexus 4 also has HD voice, at least on T-Mobile.
tschuy··on What Web Can Do Today
> Are there common devices out there with these?

Most Android devices since maybe late 2012 have had one. It's used for enhancing GPS lock, and whatever developers can dream up. All I've heard about it being used for is a distributed air pressure sensor network used for weather prediction, tracking, etc. [0[

tschuy··on Why Graphing Calculators Still Cost So Much
The default range for graphs is (-10,10) in both dimensions, while the screen has a 3:2 aspect ratio. The default makes perpendicular lines that aren't on the axes stretched horizontally and appear to be at non right angles.

List comprehension are a very common thing in Python.

If you knew Python you'd know exactly what that means. But zokier is right, a map is probably a better choice here.
