truth_sentinell··on The worrying implications of China's social-credit project
I can buy your comment for Chinese < 30 years old because they don't know anything better. But what about middle-aged Chinese? Don't they know the difference?

I don't know China history, but have they never lived in a democratic fashion at least in the last 50-60 years?

truth_sentinell··on The worrying implications of China's social-credit project
I guess China's folks would be a hell of a control group for Stockholm syndrome. I can't really think of any reason in the rational realm why would somebody in their sane minds would support a government that doesn't even let you Google... [..]
truth_sentinell··on The worrying implications of China's social-credit project
What would be a nice search term to learn about it? Because I can't relate them all with China without having to read a lot.
truth_sentinell··on The worrying implications of China's social-credit project
I get it, but the discussion is about China, not the US. Please don't tu quoque.
truth_sentinell··on The worrying implications of China's social-credit project
That's like saying your neighbour is peaceful and serene because he hasn't got in trouble with anyone in your neighbourhood, yet he beats his wife, is an alcoholic, etc..

Come on man, seriously? Tibet? rings a bell?

truth_sentinell··on Shopify has paid over $300k in security exploit bounties
Paranoid much?
truth_sentinell··on Amazon has made its first drone delivery to an actual customer
I think the comparison between robbing a truck and a drone is naive at best.

Would you consider the same robbing a truck, probably threatening the driver at gun point, being seen by him, to grabbing a package from the claps of a drone?

truth_sentinell··on Elon Musk, Travis Kalanick, Indra Nooyi to Join Presidential Advisory Council
Not at trump's level, but I agree. Why aren't we doing something about it?
truth_sentinell··on Elon Musk, Travis Kalanick, Indra Nooyi to Join Presidential Advisory Council
This probably means he's lying and he doesn't give two fucks about the country. Just get power no matter the means.
truth_sentinell··on “BRAAAM”: The Sound That Invaded the Hollywood Soundtrack
I definitely have. Pretty much everything that is on Youtube about it. Although I personally like much more the originals. They were also made with an organ. It's an incredible complicated piece of instrument.

Edit: awesome read, thanks.

truth_sentinell··on “BRAAAM”: The Sound That Invaded the Hollywood Soundtrack
I suggest the same but with Interstellar's soundtrack. I personally think is brilliant. No other soundtrack makes me more emotional.
truth_sentinell··on Tips for Self-Learning Programming
I don't understand. A self-taught programmer would know everything he needs to know given that he learnt with the right resources. Whatever you can learn from a teacher you can learn it from a book; teachers themselves write the books! The only difference would be that you can't ask question to a book, and if you have the right questions, that's invaluable. Good thing we have forums and stackoverflow, but sometimes questions don't get answer and when they do, they don't get a quality answer for that matter.
truth_sentinell··on Vitamin pills don't work and may be bad for you
What I dread is that how many books like those written by Pauling - who was a Nobel prize winner - do we consider true and follow its advice because says so? How many placebos might be laying around?

What would be a practical way for folks that don't have anything to do with X field to test if what scientists say is actually true? - at least in such important field as what we consume -

My doubt is how do they hack the computers and how do they know the ip of the target? Maybe they have a secret list of vulnerabilities of linux and windows?
truth_sentinell··on Chrome 55 uses 30% less memory than 54
You gave me an idea to a chrome plugin to manage tabs. I'm gonna open ne some tabs to learn how to write plugins.
truth_sentinell··on Chrome 55 uses 30% less memory than 54
No, they aren't. I don't know about you, but I can't have more than 20 tabs open and consciously be aware of the content. I can't think of people like above, having 120 tabs. It's probably a waste of time and resources. First because you can't possibly hold in your memory 120 tabs, thus you'll have to visit them or read the title to remind you why is it there on the first place. With bookmarks at least you can use the search bar...

So it ends up being counterproductive.

truth_sentinell··on Crypto 101 – Introductory course on cryptography
Why is the url a hash? Also I'm getting privacy error on chrome mobile.

Thanks for this, seems pretty useful.

truth_sentinell··on The Need to Read
I find most poetry manifestly idiotic as the self-help books.

The reason self-help books are written the way they are written, is because that's all there's to it. They have a formula that's pretty logical and people find it "idiotic" because in the inside, they already know what they have to do, yet for some reason they resort to these books.

I mean, for example, any given how to startup book: - Find a problem - Develop an idea to solve a problem - Get your hands dirty

Abstractly, that's pretty much it. There may be some other insights, but in general, that's what you get. Again, most people, by common sense already know that, but they keep reading self-help books. I have yet to find the reason.

truth_sentinell··on The Need to Read
Actually the harm to your sleep is done when using your computer in the night, rather than specifically in bed with your lights off.
truth_sentinell··on The Need to Read
I had planned that. Watch a documentary every day (most of them are one hour and a half long, that's the time you probably waste scrolling on facebook anyways, so imagine investing it on knowledge. 365 in a year are going to shift your perspectives 720 degrees.
truth_sentinell··on The Need to Read
Those random sentences without a context seem like a waste of time IMO. They'd definitely help if you read the book though.
truth_sentinell··on Vue.js 2.1 Released
What would be better o build in terms of code clarity, performance and some other var I can't thin of rn, a slideshow in JQuery or using Vue.js?
truth_sentinell··on The war on drugs has failed: doctors should lead calls for drug policy reform
Hell, even software programmers can kill a lot of people by letting a bug slide. But I agree that in general, doctors have a bigger and more direct responsability in that matter.

Can you an example of a real world problem you'd use that as a programmer besides surprising your interviewer?
truth_sentinell··on A demonstration of browser events used to monitor online behaviour
Maybe all you visit is blogs. But there are lots of websites that rely on JS in order to express their intentions. It's like watching a movie with the mute on because the english accents bothers you -and without the possibility of subtitles-.
truth_sentinell··on A demonstration of browser events used to monitor online behaviour
I really can't understand the people that browse the internet without JS. Like what's the point? JS is part of the web, deal with it.

truth_sentinell··on Ibuprofen May Not Be as Safe as was Thought
Well, that's my point. If they aren't replicating the study, then that's wrong. It's like only validating input on the client and not server-side. It would be much more difficult for a company to fake both FDA results and their own.

And public health is what's at stake here, so there should never be enough tests.

truth_sentinell··on Ibuprofen May Not Be as Safe as was Thought
Thanks. I just checked, but it's still not clear. As far as I can understand, the drug application, along with results, tests, etc (which is conducted by the company) is reviewed by the staff at the FDA, which is not the same as doing the same tests and getting the same results, am I right?
truth_sentinell··on Ibuprofen May Not Be as Safe as was Thought
Then how is "The FDA doesn't test the data sent by the corps" true then? I don't understand.
