trident5000··on Machine learning finds an improved way to match donor organs with patients
"Sorry, our internal black box system determined you are not a candidate at this time. Please try again later."

Aside from reinforcement loops being an issue, ML is only as good as the programmer makes it. And we will have no idea how it was constructed and neither will non-tech health professionals. Theres no way a system like this can be described in its entirety without mistake to surgeons when one line of code changes everything.

So maybe it can help out human decision but I would not want this to have final say for quite some time.

trident5000··on Black holes finally proven mathematically stable
Do both
trident5000··on Disney's mosquito control program
with this finger waiving your answer isnt even correct. eliminating standing water looks to be the number 1 thing they do per the article.
trident5000··on Manhattan rents cross $5k threshold for first time
Its about the 70th percentile, above average. But you're not living an extravagant life.
trident5000··on Manhattan rents cross $5k threshold for first time
150k is not a low salary even for NYC. You're not mr money bags with that though.
trident5000··on Blackmail attempt left a Houston restaurant bombarded with 1-star reviews
Not a chance I would want that. Thats just going to be a corporate takeover of public opinion and people will ultimately be muffled.
trident5000··on Notice of termination of Twitter merger agreement
The CEO has a massive parachute. Its in his best interest to just settle on a lower price rather than get tied up in courts for years with Musk. If the markets continue to decline, a lower offer is going to look more and more attractive to shareholders. Just my 2 cents.
trident5000··on 9,000-pound electric Hummer shows we can’t ignore efficiency of EVs
People need large vehicles for various reasons, commercial and private life. If you're insecure with there being variety on the road, which there always will be, then stay off it or take the bus. Builders are not doing their job in a Prius and a family isnt taking a ski vacation to the mountains in a Camry.
trident5000··on 9,000-pound electric Hummer shows we can’t ignore efficiency of EVs
Unnecessary to your lifestyle. You probably live in a city with no family and want to dictate everyone elses life which is typical.
trident5000··on 9,000-pound electric Hummer shows we can’t ignore efficiency of EVs
Its not that insane that SUV's exist you're just extremely controlling and hyperbolic.
trident5000··on 9,000-pound electric Hummer shows we can’t ignore efficiency of EVs
You sound salty. Improve the power source emissions instead of trying to dictate what type of car people want to drive.
trident5000··on Artificial Intelligence in the Field of Economics
I think the application of AI in economics and finance is going to have muffled utility over time if not already because of feedback. In other words certain results will be expected based on historical data, however the future will greatly differ from the past because of AI intervention which will skew expected results. In turn that will make AI essentially useless in an economic/financial application.

trident5000··on Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs
Maybe, but increased competition never hurt the consumer.
trident5000··on Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs
I order a steroid cream and its significantly less than Walgreens for the exact same thing. Just my 1 data point.
trident5000··on Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs
Makes sense. Yeah its not the pharmacists fault, its corporate who has no pulse on whats going on. Or they just dont care.
trident5000··on Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs
I switched to this after the 3rd time getting abused by Walgreens. In my area they dont even acknowledge you when you walk to the counter and forget your refills. The pharmacists just blatantly lie to you that it will be ready at this point. They are overwhelmed and Walgreens doesnt want to pay for more pharmacists while not limiting how much business they can reasonably take. Ordering has made things easier for me and I feel like less of a buffoon standing there in that dumpster fire.
trident5000··on New type of 3D printing uses sound waves to build up objects
It probably goes furthest to nearest so that scenario never becomes an issue.
trident5000··on Why developers seem to only build luxury housing (2018)
These are the types of regulations that backfire with unintended consequences. Off the top of my head you're going to probably reduce the amount of home builders off the bat. Even if its just upper-end builders, less options at the top of the market will cause high end price increases and then buying down the ladder ultimately raising the price for all housing.
trident5000··on Coinbase stock lost over 75% value
You're basically gambling on monetary policy at the end of the day. If QT is steadfast, this market is at best going to be L shaped and volume will shrink for Coinbase. If QE remains, might see a reflation of the bubble.
trident5000··on 65k fake students enrolled in the California junior college system
Every time the government gets involved markets get distorted and we pay the price down the road. Guaranteed home loans from the govt with almost no down payment caused lenders to not check credit and then we had 2008. Very similar situation with government education loan guarantees. And then legislators pretend to fix the problem with bailouts but we all pay with an inflation tax. Its robbery from savers to what should be risky borrowers. On top of that we now have these bloated education institutions that offer bs degrees and wacky educators because of the artificial propped up market that is detached from economics and value.
trident5000··on Elon Musk makes $43B unsolicited bid to take Twitter private
Musk himself will probably sue them immediately as the second largest holder behind Vanguard.
trident5000··on Elon Musk makes $43B unsolicited bid to take Twitter private
He already has a social network to jumpstart a messaging platform....Tesla cars.
trident5000··on YouTuber builds his own x-ray machine after $69k hospital bill (2021)
Sorry people you dont agree with can have a voice. Theres no such thing as a "dangerous" opinion. Learn to listen to all sides and let others listen to all sides and then make independent decisions. The way you battle terrible speech is with countering speech, not shutting down conversation to your liking.
trident5000··on GE won’t let me use convection roast on my new oven without connecting to WiFi
An oven is not a PC, just turn on and cook my food. And any energy savings with some wifi controlled monstrosity (if thats what were getting at) is better met with more sustainable energy sources that produce more power. Cutting energy is never going to be a solution of the future; producing more will be.
trident5000··on Ask HN: Has Gmail stopped working for you with uBlock Origin on Chrome?
Why is anyone using Chrome would be my first question.
trident5000··on Why can't Google find answers though they are right under it's nose?
Ive started using duckduckgo not just for privacy reasons, but because its a better search engine for many things. This wasnt the case just years ago. The only reason ill use google is if Im shopping for something niche.
trident5000··on Facebook loses users for the first time
I dumped facebook, linkedin, snapchat. I can dump another.
trident5000··on Facebook loses users for the first time
Theres so many ads on instagram Im considering dumping it. Thats the only social platform I ever liked because I dont have to hear peoples opinions on things. But Im at a breaking point.
trident5000··on Meta shares drop 20% on Q4 earnings miss, weak outlook
