tricolon··on Map of Proposed US Time Zone Changes
What I can't get over is how Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, and Arkansas would be ahead of Illinois. That's just confusing.
tricolon··on How to Ace the Google Interview: Ultimate Guide
That there are even stories about such things makes me want to stay far, far away from there.
tricolon··on Autistic Burnout: The Cost of Masking and Passing (2017)
Where (or to what kind of area) are you moving? Will you drive?

tricolon··on Facebook will reveal who uploaded your contact info for ad targeting
I've never owned or rented a car, contacted a dealership, or ever had a license, but my list is almost completely car dealerships. I'm beginning to suspect my state's DMV, where I got my state ID.
tricolon··on Robinhood launches 3% checking account
What is your experience like? I live in NYC and I find that comment to match my experience today. The only thing missing is that some (perhaps many, but certainly not all) people use one or more of Venmo, Square Cash, Zelle, or Apple Pay to send money from person to person, but default to cash or checks if they don't have a service in common.
tricolon··on Ask HN: Where are the good jobs in Canada?
This is pretty confusing. Regarding work permits in Canada, remote work is explicitly not considered "work": https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/co...

> Examples of activities for which a person would not normally be remunerated or which would not compete directly with Canadian citizens or permanent residents in the Canadian labour market and which would normally be part-time or incidental to the reason that the person is in Canada include, but are not limited to:

> long distance (by telephone or Internet) work done by a temporary resident whose employer is outside Canada and who is remunerated from outside Canada

tricolon··on What people actually do at WeWork
I was in a WeWork for 2.5 years. Our floor had four phone booths but probably 20 or more people whose entire workday was spent on the phone, which led to multiple people pacing the halls while on a call. No amount of gentle reminders, glaring, or fighting back with my own noise would stop the loud conversations on the other side of the single-pane glass door.

There was a similar problem with the capacity of the men's bathroom.

WeWork should take more care that their physical infrastructure is not overwhelmed by subtenants who are mostly alike.

tricolon··on 2018 Stellar roadmap
I wish I knew! I signed up pretty early.
tricolon··on 2018 Stellar roadmap
Thank you for this comment. I checked my email, found out I had 40K, and cashed out half.

We live in strange times.

tricolon··on MoviePass wants to let you go to the theater once a day for $10 a month
Try going to AMC Empire 25 (near Times Square) on a weekend. Lots of people talking, yelling, clapping, texting, etc.

I spend a lot of time at Alamo now.

tricolon··on Apple is struggling to become an AI powerhouse
From the "Privacy and Your Apps" presentation on Tuesday at WWDC:

> in iOS 11, users will be able to choose the “when in use” option at all times [when asked for permission to use their location]

tricolon··on Apple is struggling to become an AI powerhouse
Perhaps you have nothing to hide, but other people do. The danger in your accepting these "robots" as they are is that those other people might end up not having a say in the matter.
tricolon··on Google Brain Residency
I was half-expecting it to be about their invention assignment agreement.
tricolon··on Ask HN: What are the most important problems in your industry?
Problem: Gravity makes it hard to get into orbit.

Solution: Rockets.

tricolon··on Why Did My Patient Leave Me?
I left my last doctor after I arrived at an appointment only to find that I did not have an appointment that day. In fact, the doctor wasn't even there.
tricolon··on Love in the Time of Cryptography
In the interest of learning, what's the issue with the OpenSSL command?
tricolon··on A hot bath has benefits similar to exercise
Of course. Trail ratings in North America are relative to each resort. I've gone down blues in the west that are far more challenging than the double blacks at a few areas in New England.
tricolon··on How to Clear a Path Through 60 Feet of Snow, Japanese Style
It's not remotely operated:

> The GPS and sat phone work in tandem to provide the driver a detailed video screen image of the dozer’s location in relation to the center of the snow-buried highway. This driver’s job is not to clear snow, but simply to lay out an accurate track of the road itself.

I'm pretty sure the blackout was everything below 23rd St (except Battery Park City) on the west side and below 40th St on the east side.

tricolon··on Some Colleges Have More Students From the Top 1 Percent Than the Bottom 60
I'm afraid that you are greatly overestimating the size of a Tudor City studio. The reality is less than 300 square feet for just over $300K.
