trevorishere··on Ketamine therapy is going mainstream
Regarding development, there hasn’t been much at all outside of SSRIs/SNRIs. The third chapter in the below video on bipolar disorder and ketamine addresses this.

And here's Marckworth State Forest today.

trevorishere··on Tell HN: You are not alone this Christmas
You _must_ spend some time here. While I'm partial due to being born here, there is so much beauty in nature in any direction you choose to travel on the west side of the Cascades! You could spend years here and not see everything. I'm starting to explore more and more on my own and it is just a wonderland everywhere I go.

Since you asked, here is a photo from near the end of my hike, looking NE or E to the Cascades.

NGST started in 1996! I was a 6th grader, at that time! I was fortunate to wake up at 2AM PT so I got to watch the entire webcast. I’m so happy it made it up and they unfurled the solar panel early — I wonder if that was a way to say goodbye while on camera.

No blog; that’s not a bad idea, though. I just post pictures/videos on Instagram like every other good Millennial ;)

Hiking is a way to clear my head. I had an 18 year relationship end not long ago — in 3 & 4th grade I had a teacher who would take us hiking on unofficial field trips. I realized I missed it and the connection with nature plus the isolation one can achieve given you avoid the popular hikes.

My hikes are up at Moss Lake to the end of the allowable NE North Fork Road as well as Marckworth State Forest. It’ll likely snow up here given our elevation but cold doesn’t bother me too much.
trevorishere··on Tell HN: You are not alone this Christmas
This Christmas is significantly different for me. Normally it would be filled with friends and family, but not this year.

I succeeded in hiking >10 miles yesterday and today, legs willing, I'll be at least spending part of the day in the PacNW forests to keep the depression at bay.

JWST was my Christmas present. I'm happy to see we've got final separation and the last view of the telescope. If anything, it's the best thing I could ask for today.

trevorishere··on Microsoft Teams: 1 feature, 4 vulnerabilities
Audio quality on Zoom is downright worse with a hallow, distant sound -- Zoom is/was using the same codec as Skype (Silk) which Teams replaced earlier this year (Satin) which is much more robust and capable.
trevorishere··on The Navy's $9B Stealthy Super Destroyer Is Covered in Rust
The rust gives me the Russian submarine fleet vibes, which is unfortunate.
trevorishere··on Study: Better sleep habits lead to better college grades (2019)
I wonder how those forms of sleep deprivation compares to those with mania or hypomania (i.e., bipolar I/Ii) and the amount of sleep they get in those cycles (none to 1-3 hours).
trevorishere··on Cheap antidepressant shows promise treating early Covid-19
SSRIs can induce undiagnosed Bipolar or SSRI-induced Bipolar disorder; in certain cases with rapid cycle.

It’s not fun.

trevorishere··on Problems with Oracle SQL
Most Docs have public repos on GitHub, so you can see the PRs if the docs change.
trevorishere··on A Look into CBL-Mariner, Microsoft’s Internal Linux Distribution
For Windows, it's faster than accessing the file system (thanks to file system filter drivers).
trevorishere··on A Look into CBL-Mariner, Microsoft’s Internal Linux Distribution
NTFS has never had a limit of other than 32K. MAX_PATH limited 260 characters for the Win32 API (among others). It has always been possible to bypass the 260 character limit, though obviously most applications wouldn't work with a file that exceeded the system-defined MAX_PATH value.

Office does its own thing and doesn't leverage MAX_PATH. No idea why.

trevorishere··on A Look into CBL-Mariner, Microsoft’s Internal Linux Distribution
That'll be due to the file system filter driver[s] (i.e. antivirus). This should impact most/all file systems where the file system filter driver supports said file system.

Disable/remove the file system filter drivers and the performance issues largely disappear.

trevorishere··on 1Password Secrets Automation
I'd love to use a built-in service, but I need a service that has a web UI + Windows support + sharing support for family.
trevorishere··on 1Password Secrets Automation
KeyVault is ideal when combined with Managed Identities. I would not leverage any service that required a connection string to access a secret.
trevorishere··on Donation page "not compliant with Google Play Policies"
If you don’t like the store policies, you may be able to find an accommodating store.

Can’t do that with the app stores, hence your analogy falls apart due to the lack of available competition.

trevorishere··on Okta to Acquire Auth0 for $6.5B
Correct, though we do use Azure B2C with 3rd parties, as well.
trevorishere··on Okta to Acquire Auth0 for $6.5B
We replaced Okta with Azure AD. AAD had better OIDC and SCIM support along with being _significantly_ less expensive -- plus we had to use it anyways due to M365/Azure, so Okta offered no value.
trevorishere··on Repl.it Teams for Education
Without adding "Replit" to my search term, I couldn't find your product on the first three page of Bing or Google in a private mode browser.

But if you have good in-roads with the edu space, this seems like less of an issue.

trevorishere··on Repl.it Teams for Education
This is going to be confused with Microsoft Teams for Education. It will also be hard to search for, again given Microsoft Teams.
trevorishere··on Lyra audio codec enables high-quality voice calls at 3 kbps bitrate
I'd be curious to know how this compares to Microsoft's Satin codec, now used in Teams, which is ML-driven.
trevorishere··on SolidRun 1U 2 node Arm Server
Agreed. Unless you're concerned with power consumption, I'm not sure where this server fits, especially with an A72 core which is a few years old.

I'd love to have one of these to replace ODroid N2+ just for a rack mount solution, but not at that price.

trevorishere··on Multi-User Dungeons (MUDs): What Are They? and How to Play
And this is how I find out that macOS no longer includes telnet.
trevorishere··on Users are losing out against Big Sur’s sealed System
Microsoft releases updates once per month for Windows and associated components (sans the rare critical RCE etc.) -- for Office, you may be on Current Channel which releases ~3x/month. This would generally be unusual in a corporate environment which favors the Monthly Channel or SAC, both of which get updates 1x per month.
trevorishere··on Users are losing out against Big Sur’s sealed System
Big Sur updates are as bad as applying any patch to Windows Server 2016. But I agree, less of an issue given it attempts to auto update overnight.
