trekkie1024··on WEF speaker touts tech that allows your boss to monitor your brain activity
Also, the solution to that are external driver assistance systems, not brain scans.
trekkie1024··on Pipe Operator (|>) For JavaScript
Having done some personal projects in F#, I'm a huge fan of the syntax. However we would need most standard functions in JS to be curried to take advantage of it.

> Guess it'll be awhile before generalized solutions become even a remote possibility.

And that might not be a bad thing, as it would give construction workers, etc. the time they need to adjust and adapt to the future of this kind of work.

trekkie1024··on Salesforce, but for Dating
This reminds me of the main character in Along Came Polly who puts his new girlfriend and ex-wife into a Risk Assessment tool to decide who he should stay with :D. Naturally, it doesn’t go well once the girlfriend discovers it!

From what I understand, these models generate the response one word at a time. Every time you see a new word appear at the end, the model is taking into consideration the entire chat history + its own answer so far to generate that next token.

Likewise, with an Apple Watch. Works great but only issue is the battery life < a day when it’s being used that way.

It's free, but I find the "Read aloud" feature in Microsoft Edge to be extremely natural sounding. Try using it to read this comment!
trekkie1024··on Moonwalkers: Shoes that make you walk faster (pre-order)
That's a reasonable point... what would you say is a price (if any) at which you could see these become mainstream? I'm personally ambivalent on the design but think the product could be worth trying!
trekkie1024··on Moonwalkers: Shoes that make you walk faster (pre-order)
Isn't that what people said about the first AirPods? They look dorky, no one would be caught wearing them, etc. And look where we are now :)
trekkie1024··on Moonwalkers: Shoes that make you walk faster (pre-order)
The max speed for one of these is 7 mph, which is likely slower than you on a bicycle.

When I tried it with the same prompt, it explained the second for loop as

The second for loop iterates over the values of i starting at 0 and going up to, but not including, n * 2. Within this loop is a statement that increments i by 1. This statement has no effect on the loop because i is already being incremented by the loop itself.

which is incorrect.

I've been thinking along the same lines for a while, how is it that these models can do amazing things but we still can't keep up with eg. evolving COVID variants? All the while it seems more and more futile to aspire towards improving oneself creatively or learn a new field since AI could just "do it better (or will soon).

Reminds me of the Black Mirror episode “The Entire History of You.” Could be pretty scary if misused.
