I'm using claude to make gaming mod apps I never would have bothered to code before, but they have zero monetizable value. There is demand for sure, but somewhat ironically, copyright/IP/TOS law stands in the way. The thing which committed the biggest copyright infringement in human history lets me make another thing which I can't release because of copyright law. I'd get cease-and-desisted instantly if I did so.
Programming, at least for me, is rapidly going the way of the dodo bird. Time to spend what I managed to save for retirement, a bit earlier than I expected, hope it lasts.
Tell that to a certain school in Iran
Also for session planning, as in when-can-I-walk-away-from-computer, its nice to know the particular rhythm of initial crunch - ask questions - make plan - do it. Especially with a 5 minute cache timeout.
Now I'm getting older and have less interest in VR, certainly don't want augmented reality glasses, even if they could be used for gaming. If anything I want glasses that subtract reality, as its a little too much at times.
This prevents it.
I recall reading something from axios or similar, talking about how a CEO said a "nice light recession right now would be perfect for us" or something to that effect.
GNOME is also phenomenally insistent about managing window sizes and positions, and phenomenally bad it it, so it basically boils down to "I don't care what you had it at before, now you are getting a full screen window or something random I made up". Claude tells me this is an intentional design decision on their part...ok.
I will say the gaming has gotten a lot better, proton and DXVK really are amazing. NVIDIAs drivers give good performance in those as well but are...less than amazing in reliability.
Overall I'm happy that I have so far avoided windows 11 but damn has this been quite a bumpy road.
It compresses well though on average, if you have something like zram (I think windows/mac do something similar). When you get multiple projects open each with their own rust analyzer though, it starts to bite
I used to game on it and I think the design just couldn't handle the cpu and dgpu being active for long periods, it would get extremely hot in the area close to where the memory was.
If I want LLMs to belittle and passive-aggressively mock me while providing borderline help, I can prompt them to do that. But I could never turn that off on stackoverflow.
Though in this case, OpenAI may have leveled up the game a bit too much.
