I'll be happily surprised if we get a postmortem. Pulling everything out as soon as I can.
trakout··on Omnieq: Credit Spread Scanner
Your comment attributes to the fact that knowing it's possible is usually enough data for HN folks to figure out what's going on.

Maybe we should somehow tag the developer? ;)

trakout··on We’re approaching the limits of computer power – we need new programmers
The word "mint" really takes the meaning out of the word "mine". True though, minting is part of the economics included in mining.

Usually governments mint coins, but no government (or centralized entity) currently operates a legitimate network that matches up with the same properties as bitcoin.

I might have used an asterisk, maybe? :)

trakout··on Sonos, Squeezed by the Tech Giants, Sues Google
Came here to mention this! Recently I spent some time evaluating snips, doing some research and looking at documentation without actually starting anything.

Decided to dive in, only to realize they blocked new console sign-ups, having been acquired by Sonos. Waste of time, I blame Sonos.

trakout··on Huawei Mate 30 phones launch without Google apps
What kind of data is being sent?

Devices that need to legitimately phone home for something tend to do so by requesting servers within or close to the country they were developed in.

Imagine people getting riled up at the thought of Apple phoning home to a US-based NTP server..

trakout··on What Happened with West Virginia’s Blockchain Voting Experiment?
In the context of nascent tech like this, most people just don't know the right questions to ask, unfortunately.

Perhaps in the near future we will be treated to a layman's explanation of the prevalent (and corrupt) usage of federated blockchains, 'exposed' in a Netflix doc. :)

trakout··on I’m not really a good web developer, I'm just good at Googling things
This. Op has either been very, very lucky in his tenure -- or, he has never had to build a site with compatibility requirements targeting >= IE9, Blackberry's browser, or Safari iOS (which is basically mobile IE).

trakout··on Bitcoin Drops Back Below $6,000 as 2018 Loss Approaches 60%
5 years ago, maybe. You can buy flight tickets and tech hardware (Newegg) with bitcoin.

trakout··on Ask HN: What music helps you code better?
thanks for sharing!
trakout··on Google searches and tweets about Bitcoin decline sharply
I purchased a laptop on Newegg last year using Bitcoin. Expedia takes Bitcoin as a payment method. Both of these are practical (and in some cases regular) expenditures.
trakout··on Bitcoin Visa debit cards are cancelled
#2 is way off. By definition crypto is decentralized. Currencies that currently have the highest market caps (read: most popular) also tend to be open source -- anyone can contribute, and anyone can run a node and perform PoW/PoS contributions.

There are exceptions (XRP), but for the most part your comment reflects a misunderstanding of "crypto-space".

trakout··on Ask HN: How Is Google Analytics So Damn Fast?
Can you clarify?
trakout··on Hedge Funds Flip ICOs, Leaving Other Investors Holding the Bag
may I ask why you liquidated, especially with PoS approaching?
trakout··on Things cryptocurrency enthusiasts probably won't tell you
There is a focus on building decentralized exchanges at the moment.

Regulation will become more difficult when these become mainstream.

trakout··on 153k Ether Stolen in Parity Multi-Sig Attack
Cryptocurrencies do go through pen tests. I think instances like these are a good analogy to how even multiple tests run by 3rd parties will only get you so far -- particularly when the "bounty" is potentially worth millions.
trakout··on How we got 1,500 GitHub stars by mixing time-tested technology with a fresh UI
Agreed. I also think there's a lot of satisfaction in knowing that you got those stars in a completely organic manner.
trakout··on Apple Announces Full WebRTC Support in Safari 11
For all the leaps and bounds we saw being made by ARkit, Safari desktop still does not support typical 360 video due to a CORS non-compliance issue. Said issue has been submitted and known for two years.

trakout··on The way people tilt their smartphone 'can give away passwords and pins'
Chrome will soon require an SSL cert in order for web services to use the device orientation API, which is a step in the right direction, but ultimately doesn't help in prevention.
trakout··on ZeroNet – Uncensorable websites using Bitcoin crypto and BitTorrent network
iirc you only need namecoin if you want to register a human friendly domain.
trakout··on The disturbing YouTube videos that are tricking children
Agreed. Also YouTube ToS defines the service to be used by individuals aged at least 13 years and up. Point 12: https://www.youtube.com/static?gl=CA&template=terms
