Sleeping with others’ significant others, or actively trying to/bragging about it is a perfect example. Low-class behavior that will get you props from low-class folks.
It seems like most people I see billing themselves as an “AGI researcher” or discussing alignment on Twitter (or irl in SF) have no actual background in AI/ML.

Ironically given the topic, it’s posters like you that ruin the quality of online communities and make engagement hard to measure.
My point is that I don’t agree with labeling someone convicted of a crime as being among society’s most heroic or honest. That’s just a laughably ridiculous statement.
Yeah, I think we’re too hard as a nation on ex-cons. But they’re not heroes because they went through self-imposed hardships (and almost always at the expense of someone innocent). And they’re certainly among the lower rungs of honesty by categorization. Nowhere near the top.
If this sounds harsh, just act their victims.
Bonus - My roommate works at Amazon and works part time with Andrei in some capacity (don’t know the full details), but anyway he has mentioned multiple times how cool and out of his way helpful Andrei is.
I bring this up because when someone of any notoriety is nice I think it’s really cool. I’ve met some ‘big’ tech people who definitely weren’t!
Can never wrap my head around why America would forgive student debt and not medical debt, especially when the former is always a choice.
Still, if you’ve worked in hedge funds you’ll know two things: connections and luck account for almost everything. What remains are mostly linear models that almost never outperform your basic mutual index funds.
Those very smart people moving billions do get things very wrong, though often at an imbalanced risk to themselves (an imbalance in their favor, mind you), so I don’t put much stock in such sweeping appraisals.
