Gadgets like iPads and iPhones are just diversions, the freedom you'll get if you take time off (not just a two week trip!) is worth so much more.
Charging such a massive ammount of batteries quickly could potentially be problematic.
Like, for example, "Reality Binge" or "Celebrity Drive-By"? Which happen to be the author's two shows (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1941257/).
Think of teens and parents. They're not going to pay for classy cinemas. Any both go for reasons other than just seeing the film.
Longer running connections are a little more problematic, but some client side code should be able to handle the connection being closed. You just need to make sure your web server can handle the number of connections your are expecting. Apache is particularly bad for this. Something like nginx should perform better.
You could even incorporate the timer into a single request.
do {
sleep(1);
$seconds_remaining = fetch_auction_time_from_memcache();
echo "<script>updateActionTime($seconds_remaining);</script>";
flush();
} while ($seconds_remaining > 0);In many ways I had less than when I was a starving student, but it felt much different because what I did have was the money to buy things if I needed them. Having the ability to buy things I might need or want was more important to me than actually owning them.
This is the first thing I see: http://i.imgur.com/wfWCR.png I don't even know anything about the app, let alone whether I should trust you.
It would be nice to see Facebook improve the quality of standard photos too. They're generally noisy as hell and have rubbish compression artifacts. Compare Facebook: http://bit.ly/bT1bjA and Flickr: http://bit.ly/c0a0FO
Perhaps they have done some testing.
By the time you've added that, timeouts and fallbacks the amount of inline JS would make hosting jQuery on a CDN pointless.

Seems like this was doomed from the start. I think the real problem here is that the small business owner thought Groupon was working for them. They didn't realise that they're the ones being sold the product.
This is a twitter <a href="http://bit.ly/blah"
onclick="document.location='http://yourservers.com/follow?url=' +
escape(this.href);return false">link</a>.
That way you can look up the Twitter links only if they are clicked and any slow down happens after the click, not before display.As a bonus you get to see what links everyone is clicking as well.
