tommek4077··on Amazon still isn't doing enough to stop bait-and-switch reviews
Also at least in germany, they teamed up with scam comparison sites (they present their "winners" on amazon.de and get a reduced affiliate fee). The kind of sites claiming to do tests and reviews but in the end just comparing the stats the chinese manufacturer puts into the description. Its really frustating to find anything of value, and the search engine gets dumber and dumber every week it seems as well.
tommek4077··on Tell HN: AWS appears to be down again
They should automatically update as well. Currently it is a static "all green" page and might be manually changed if a managet would give his go. Insane.

I hope you are answering the parent. Because rhis is exactly what I said. You as a user of any foreign library have to look through it. You can't trust code you didn't write. That is also one of the reasons why in the past so many parts where reinvented. Those guys where not stupid, but why on eaeth would you risk the security of your work just to not write the login process yourself? And then some smarty pants came and told you this is all unnecessary and it is "best practice" to just include some library, package or whatever it is called nowadays.

Those audits are your duty. We've did this in programming a long time until recently the JavaScript craze took over.

Why put a all red banner with this warning on the display, you don't even need JS to read the TEXT in a blog. "This site requires JavaScript to run correctly. Please turn on JavaScript or unblock scripts" Make it scroll out at least.

There should be no one to sign off anything. Your status page should be updated automatically, not manually!
tommek4077··on Kubernetes at Home with K3s
It's the same on servers, just losing a lot of power and energy. But someone will tell you servers and energy are cheaper than capable devs and ops.
tommek4077··on FirefoxPWA: Progressive Web Apps for Firefox
It is a glorified bookmark. But the JavaScript kids like how some of there scripts still run offline. As long as you don't use their website in any normal way, like clicking anywhere.
tommek4077··on Proof of stake is incapable of producing a consensus
So, you would take a job paying a cent per day, because your time is free?
tommek4077··on Proof of stake is incapable of producing a consensus
It is not about spent electricity bills, it is about spent time. This is the problem that needs to be solved, how can you make the work more time consuming without beeing able to go around this with computing here: electric power.

Only if you do your transaction on the blockchain. Most are done internally. It's like your bank is not sending someone with a suitcase full of money just because you pay your phone bill.
tommek4077··on 1-Line CSS Layouts
Wow, CSS examples and all you see with JS disabled are white boxes. o_O

You dont trade on the blockchain. We build software that does multi hundred millions orders per day. Millions of trades. But of course, not in python.

Because the retail market is big. If you personally buy or sell, you don't care for the "perfect" price.
tommek4077··on PHP is worth learning and using
There are package managers, yes, but probably you won't need one. Because of the mighty standard library. Thats a big advantage, compared to the tiny-package-mess at npm.
tommek4077··on Chrome may start restricting requests to private networks
Just like not everyone is capable in handling explosives or build roadsafe cars or most other stuff by themselfes. We have rulings for this, laws, needed checks and so on. Start stopping the import of crap, like one does it with illegal firecrackers or in the past with eletronic stuff that interferes to much.
tommek4077··on Chrome may start restricting requests to private networks
Great, stop using this crap.
tommek4077··on Chrome may start restricting requests to private networks
And because you use crap hardware, everyone else has to change his totally legitimate network setup?

tommek4077··on Embedded malware in RC (NPM package)
The older such a system is, the more there is a "don't trust anyone" mentality. Some decades in the past you did not just run alien code in your system.

Edit: without looking at it beforehand

Lol, this stuff happens since forever with webfacing servers. Thats why you dont use 'root' or 'admin' as a ssh user. Just some PR fear mongering stuff to get the newbies in the cloudspace instead of hosting own servers.

tommek4077··on Cloudflare's Disruption
Virtual servers are a thing since ... forever on the Internet. At least since mid-nineties you had not to think about getting hard drives into servers, if you would not wanted to.
tommek4077··on Cloudflare's Disruption
How was it ever possible for S3 to take such a market share. Or is this market share not existing? Coming from the 90ies I could never imagine paying for outgoing traffic when already paying for a server with internet connection. There was a.early time where you would get throttled to 100MBit (and much earlier in time to 10MBit/s) but this is long gone. What do you do with S3 that such prices seem fair for anything other than rarely accessed files?
