tokioyoyo··on Ring cancels its partnership with Flock Safety after surveillance backlash
Ability to “Hey Google, play Spotify” in every room and shower is pretty great. That’s literally the only reason I’ve been using it for 5+ years. Oh, and it was practically free.
tokioyoyo··on Discord just killed anonymity
During the haydays of WhatsApp updating their privacy terms, there was a month long battle where people kept saying how everyone will quit. The reality is, most people just don’t care about these things if their network is highly entrenched in one app. What happens is, some communities “partially move” the sensitive stuff to like Signal and others.

Honestly, all of these are documented probabilities at this point. SNS owners can do very decent predictions on what will happen if they introduce certain kind of friction. Also, it’s not 2005 anymore, people are used to upload their IDs everywhere. I mentioned it before as well, if you’ve used any large app, the chances are you’ve uploaded your ID (AirBnB, Tinder, and etc.)

tokioyoyo··on Apple's latest attempt to launch the new Siri runs into snags
I’m not sure how to say it without sounding like an Apple fanboy, but Tim Cook has been the CEO for the past 15 years. Every single year people have been whining how “he’s not visionary and etc.”, but at some point you have to give him some credit. Apple of 2026 has completely different landscape versus apple of 2010/earlier. Scaling from millions to billions of sales is incredibly hard, and he’s been able to accomplish it.
tokioyoyo··on Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month
But any prominent app will be pressured to have ID verification in the end, no? Also, Discord's roots are very heavy, people are too invested with historical data and etc. I don't even see an alternative to it right now.
tokioyoyo··on Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month
I’m giving it exactly 2 weeks after implementation for most people to just suck it up and upload their IDs. I can’t think of a single “this new thing will break the service, people will mass quit!” thing every working out. Sure, some users left. But super majority, who has already built communities and are depended on it just keep churning.

Privacy and all that jazz aren’t that important to an average person. Everyone’s IDs are already circulating in a mix of Tinder, AirBnB, Twitter, <any random other app that just requires it>.

tokioyoyo··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2026)
Been bored a bit, so working on a Coop exploration app, already on AppStore - https://apps.apple.com/jp/app/ato-explore-together/id6757285....

Basically tracking where my friends and I have collectively been by dividing the global map into H3 hexagons. The using photo and workout metadata to get the locations, giving points and doing comparisons between everyone. It’s actually quite fun to see random people around the world sign up and see in the global map where everyone has been. Grounds me a bit haha.

tokioyoyo··on The time I didn't meet Jeffrey Epstein
Anyone who tried has failed. It’s in the interest of the group to actively silence the dissidents as well. And it’s pretty easy when you already have the power.
tokioyoyo··on The time I didn't meet Jeffrey Epstein
A few years ago there was some news articles about “group chats that rule the world”, and for some reason people didn’t take it seriously enough. Closer to the top, it feels like it’s “everyone knows everyone” game. Playing against those groups just leads to a perma-loss, so you’re incentivized to partake.

This is/was one of such groups.

tokioyoyo··on The time I didn't meet Jeffrey Epstein
I think it’s an oversimplification. Epstein isn’t the only “connecting big people to other big people” person. It just happened to be on top of all the shady stuff, he also trafficked kids. I believe there are more people like him, just flying under the radar.
tokioyoyo··on A new bill in New York would require disclaimers on AI-generated news content
At least it would be possible to autofilter everything out. Maybe market will somehow make it possible for non-AI content to get some spotlight because of that.
tokioyoyo··on Microsoft's Copilot chatbot is running into problems
I mean, Apple is at ATH from basically waiting out and picking the winner from its throne. Everyone clowned them, but it also made them not waste money until things are a bit more clear.
tokioyoyo··on NDP wants Carney to kill U.S. fighter jet contract in favour of Swedish aircraft
Defend against whom?
tokioyoyo··on Court orders restart of all US offshore wind power construction
I’m not sure, because for every “China debt bad”, we see millions of people getting urbanized and living in upgraded environments.
tokioyoyo··on Court orders restart of all US offshore wind power construction
Nothing is really stopping other countries from doing the same, to be honest. People are just scared to give legitimacy to what China has done for their citizens in a very short amount of time, because that would be against their own beliefs and morals.

I'm not saying China is the best and whatever, just saying they've proven every "China is about to fall" headline that has been circulating around for the past 15 years. Maybe we should learn some things from them.

tokioyoyo··on The Codex App
“They just aren’t empowered to feedback about it, or are trained to just sigh and put up with it” is a roundabout way of saying users don’t care about it enough.
tokioyoyo··on The Codex App
Yes, but most people don’t do that. Companies are optimizing to ship features fast, not trying to min/max resource usage when majority don’t care.

This is a new era where “if it works more or less well, ux/dx is fine, let’s ship it” has more moat than ever. Everything else is really secondary.

tokioyoyo··on The Codex App
Still good enough for the majority of the users.
tokioyoyo··on Waymo seeking about $16B near $110B valuation
They’re currently testing them in weird ass tiny streets here in Tokyo. I have a feeling you haven’t been in a Waymo?
tokioyoyo··on Finland looks to introduce Australia-style ban on social media
On the bright side, if every big SNS required ID verification, and majority would stop using it, then they would die it. Win for a humanity, no?
tokioyoyo··on Surely the crash of the US economy has to be soon
People say this, but it’s also not the exact reality. You can verify a lot of things, like import/export data. Basically import stats from one country should match China’s export to that country stat and so on.

People just have trouble understanding the complexity of China, and assume nothing they say can be true. It has a lot of problems, but progress and ability to make money isn’t one.

tokioyoyo··on Code is cheap. Show me the talk
Remember 8 years ago how vibe coding was awful? Like i never used it in prod apps. Now i'm a daily CC user, and every few months models are getting better, some problems are being solved, the other ones still being worked on and so on.
tokioyoyo··on Code is cheap. Show me the talk
This is the fun part of whole AI-built things that a lot of people don’t want to accept - it really, really, really does not matter if the code “nice, maintainable and etc.”. Does it work? Is it somewhat extendable with AI? Are users generally happy and adoption rate is high? That’s it.
tokioyoyo··on Waymo robotaxi hits a child near an elementary school in Santa Monica
I understand it sounds stupid, but there was huge push back for introducing Uber to the cities I lived in. And obviously this is even bigger change. However, if a private company is willing to foot the bill, go above and beyond to prove its usefulness and safety, I will be repping for it.
tokioyoyo··on Show HN: Moltbook – A social network for moltbots (clawdbots) to hang out
Honestly? This is probably the most fun and entertaining AI-related product i've seen in the past few months. Even if it happens, this is pure fun. I really don't care about consequences.
tokioyoyo··on Waymo robotaxi hits a child near an elementary school in Santa Monica
It's going to sound batshit insane what I say - the problem is, if we don't praise company PR, the other side will use this as an excuse to push even harder regulations, not allow them in newer cities, slow down the adoption rate, while factually ignoring that this is just a safer method of transport. I wish I was not a bootlicker, but I really want robotaxis to be available everywhere in the world at some point, and such issues should not slow them down IF it's better, and especially, not worse than humans on average.
tokioyoyo··on How London became the rest of the world’s startup capital
Man, we would get along.
tokioyoyo··on Putting Gemini to Work in Chrome
I actually think it has already been abandoned after very little adoption.
tokioyoyo··on Amazon cuts 16k jobs
Every country has their own problems. Honestly, there aren't a single large country where everything is perfect. Too many opinions, too many needs, increase median age of the politicians and the population, and etc. causes imperfect solution to every problem. At the end of the day, you have to prioritize and figure out what's important to you.

I agree with literally every point you made. Sure economy is stagnant, but I'd rather take stagnant economy than a collapsing one. I agree with a lot of things are slow, but also, most of things are just... not a big deal, at least for me? I lived in Canada, and have parts of my family living in NYC as well. For every slow government related slow things, you can find something that's also slow in the NA as well. I'm not going to mention Europe at this point, as from what I've witness from my European partner, you can find inefficiencies there as well. Again, pros and cons everywhere, just gotta pick and choose what matters to you.

tokioyoyo··on Apple to soon take up to 30% cut from all Patreon creators in iOS app
I was talking about good actors as well!
tokioyoyo··on Amazon cuts 16k jobs
> Making up jobs to keep people employed isn't a viable solution to me.

It’s going to sound naive and stupid, but I think it somehow works. There are millions of jobs here in Japan that exist for the sake of existing. Government knows, people know, workers know as well. But everyone understands that the flipside also sucks. Sure, we can say we should optimize and people need to re-learn and etc and etc. But that’s not the reality. At some point people just want to exist without worrying about 50 years down the road, or if they can feed their family tonight.
