toddmatthews··on Tim Sweeney: "NO FEES on web transactions. Game over for the Apple Tax"
It’s not consumers, it’s developers getting ripped off. In theory the price stays the same, Apple just can’t steal 30% anymore
toddmatthews··on How dairy robots are changing work for cows and farmers
its actually 70-90% water. it matters because water is very heavy, and whats left over will be dramatically less after it dries out.

its a large amount of waste, but its not 150lbs of solids

toddmatthews··on Vision Pro: What we got wrong at Oculus that Apple got right
Not sure I agree. When I first saw the 1st gen iPhone I was so impressed with it, I went out and got one a few days later. This is before the App Store. Yes compared to today it might “suck” compared to the latest version, but the first iPhone was super compelling by itself at the time and started selling very well

At one point in time people probably said the same thing about employer provided health insurance, and now it’s expected. Tough to get good talent if other companies are providing better perks
toddmatthews··on How the recession doomers got the U.S. economy so wrong
in theory yes, but if you own a home with a lower mortgage rate, are you really gonna lower the price of your house, so that you can then buy another home with a higher rate? you may just stay with your lower rate

if you have a specific task at hand, it may be easier to buy a team that works well with each other and has expertise in a certain area to accomplish a specific task. not expecting them all to stay on forever

react is a rendering engine, not a framework; there is no opinionated way to fetch data.

react-query is a delightful library that has made data fetching/cacheing a breeze for me - https://tanstack.com/query/v3/docs/react/overview

I’m a business owner and use Quickbooks online and a couple years ago they just flat out changed how they calculated taxes. When I reported the bug they just kept repeating how I could completely change my process to make it work, like they had released some new feature. But they really just broke shit, and refused to ever acknowledge it. There’s no way I was the only person reporting this. They obviously don’t care

i own a one wheel and it will occasionally just stop, and not at full speed and power.

i love riding it. but it has happened a few times, and only takes once for you to not trust it

if an e-bike shuts off, you slow down. when a single wheel dies, you fall down

toddmatthews··on The day I discovered that Apple Maps is Kind of Good now
As a business owner, Apple doesnt make it easy to update hours. There’s a whole approval process, so even if I wanted to update them if we decide to change day of it won’t be reflected in the App

As an app developer, I’m not aware of any API either. Google has a My Business API where I can integrate to update my business info/hours

toddmatthews··on Car dealerships don’t want cash, they want to give loans
> Call your bank and ask them what the interest would be for a line of credit equivalent to the loan amount for that car, over the same period

an unsecured line of credit is going to have a higher interest rate than loan backed by the collateral of the car.

also, people tend not to default on their primary vehicle (they need it to get around) so its a less risky loan, hence the lower interest rate

toddmatthews··on Djokovic's PCR test was manipulated?
his exemption was based on the fact of him having the virus and being recovered. But based on the twitter thread they are suggesting the positive test happened after the negative test.
