tocomment··on Launch a Water-Propelled Satellite into Deep Space
Would something like this be able to work within the atmosphere?
tocomment··on Firms race to transmit Wall Street data at nearly light speed
I wonder if this drive to reduce latency will lead to a neutrino communication system. That way the signal can make a straight line between two points and be even faster.
tocomment··on That 60W-equivalent LED: What no one will tell you
I actually have a room of my house I don't go in because a cfl broke there a year ago.

When I read how to clean it up it sounded so scary I now stear clear of the whole room :-(

tocomment··on New Top-Level Domains
That's a really intriguing idea. How do you imagine it working?
tocomment··on Bitcoin nearing $800/BTC
Yikes that totally is not working on the iphone.
tocomment··on Bitcoin nearing $800/BTC
Is this site no longer working? http://realtimebitcoin.info/

What's the best site to bookmark for a simple real time price quote?

tocomment··on An interview with J Craig Venter, the man who sequenced the human genome
It says "it has been estimated that Earth and Mars have exchanged on the order of 100kg of material a year"

Does anyone know where I can read more about that? How would that process be happening today?

tocomment··on DC Police Department monitors gunshots with acoustic rooftop sensors
Actually they could develop a new model you install inside a house and listens for windows breaking.

That would be better than the expensive of putting a sensor on every window of a house for an ADP type system.

tocomment··on DC Police Department monitors gunshots with acoustic rooftop sensors
Would this be good for listening for breaking glass?

That would be great for detecting breakins and car theft, no?

tocomment··on The 100 oldest .com domains on the internet
Has anyone gotten in early on namecoin domain names? There are still a lot available when I checked. Unfortunately the process seemed really complex so I kind of gave up for now. Any thoughts?
tocomment··on Announcing The Dark Mail Alliance – Founded by Silent Circle and Lavabit
Here's the wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitmessage
tocomment··on Announcing The Dark Mail Alliance – Founded by Silent Circle and Lavabit
I didn't know that. Is anyone working on an improved version? It seems like a great idea in principle.
tocomment··on Announcing The Dark Mail Alliance – Founded by Silent Circle and Lavabit
What's wrong with bitmessage?
tocomment··on Employment in America: WTF is going on?
I think those other things are just basic requirements of a job. If you included oxygen in your survey, I'm sure that would be the top pick.
tocomment··on Five Million Backers
I was curious after hearing about the JOBS act.

Do you think a kickstarter-like site, but where backers become small owners of the company (instead of or in addition to ordering stuff) would be successful? Would it be legal under the JOBS act?

tocomment··on Are We Too Close to Making Gattaca a Reality?
23andme got my eye color wrong so it must not be perfected just yet.
tocomment··on Nissan Tests 48 kWh Battery In Leaf
I wonder if anyone has considered putting a small heat pump into an EV instead of resistive heating. That could save a lot of energy.

Perhaps cars will start having better insulation too? Double paned windows? To be more efficient with cabin heating and cooling?

tocomment··on California Zero-Emission Push Grows to 8 States, 3 Million Autos
I'd be curious if any of these 8 states is also blocking Tesla sales with dealership laws. Or have special taxes for electric vehicles. I know VA charges something like $64/year.
tocomment··on Django 1.4.9 and 1.5.5 released
Just curious, how badly would an upgrade from 1.2 go? I want to do it if it takes less than a day.
tocomment··on Elon Musk Calls Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cars ‘Bullshit’
Has anyone looked into running the fuel cell in reverse to recharge it? I remember seeing a demo at a fair where it was a sealed fuel cell and it could go from h2 02 to water and then run it in reverse to recreate the o2 and h2.

If that's feasible it could simply be a new type of battery, no?

tocomment··on Dr. Arjun Srinivasan: We’ve Reached “The End of Antibiotics, Period”
Wow, harsh downvote. Sorry for submitting something related to antibiotics I thought you guys would find interesting.
tocomment··on SEC moves toward allowing crowdfunding IPOs
Excellent point. So is anyone working on a kickstarter that uses this model instead?

Would it work like Kickstarter except you'd receive shares of a company? Would there be a lot of overhead?

tocomment··on SEC moves toward allowing crowdfunding IPOs
I'm trying to figure out what this kind of funding would be good for. Could you use it to open a restaurant or bar for example?
tocomment··on Dr. Arjun Srinivasan: We’ve Reached “The End of Antibiotics, Period”
I heard the author on NPR yesterday. I think it's all very true, but it seem disingenuous to blame antibacterial soaps. I haven't ever heard of human antibiotics being added to soaps. And I don't think a triclosan resistant bacteria would be of much risk to us.

The only argument I can think of against antibacterial cleaning products would be that our bodies get less exposure or "practice" against ordinary bacteria?

tocomment··on Dr. Arjun Srinivasan: We’ve Reached “The End of Antibiotics, Period”
I submitted this a few days ago about future alternatives to antibiotics. Maybe it's more interesting now?

tocomment··on iPad Air
Does anyone know what the airplane game they're showing here is? http://images.apple.com/ipad-air/features/images/performance...

I'd like to get it.

tocomment··on New dutch political party wants € 1,000 basic income for everyone
I'd say to index it to GDP.
tocomment··on How to Tango with Django: A Python Django Tutorial
I'd say don't worry about south if you're not working with a big team.

Just track the changes you make to your models and make the same changes to the database.

tocomment··on New dutch political party wants € 1,000 basic income for everyone
It sounds like you're assuming inflation. But this money won't be printed out of thin air, it will come from taxes and thus aggregate demand won't change. (Not sure if you were clear on that.)
tocomment··on Oculus Rift's John Carmack says a new Rift dev kit is in the works...
What's wrong with the positional tracking?

Also do you need a certain Mac OS? I'm on something ancient like saber lion :-(
