tmaly··on Formatting a 25M-line codebase overnight
How did I know this was going to be a rewrite in Rust?
tmaly··on Kimi K2.6: Advancing open-source coding
How would K2.6 compare to Sonnet 4.6 both price and performance wise?
tmaly··on All phones sold in the EU to have replaceable batteries from 2027
I honestly would not have upgraded my iPhone 13 Pro if I could have just swapped the battery. That phone seemed to get better battery life than current models.
tmaly··on Ask HN: How did you get your first users with zero audience?
For me, I volunteered to teach something for free and help people.

They were more than happy to write me testimonials.

tmaly··on Opus 4.7 is horrible at writing
I see a lot of complaints on X about 4.7. Boris just dropped a post on how to use Opus 4.7 in Claude Code.

I guess they broke continuity with a 0.1 in model version change in some ways.

tmaly··on Ask HN: Teaching life skills through games, am I crazy?
I think you can teach some skills through games. Coding in a REPL loop is great for learning certain types of problem solving since the feedback loop is so tight.

Chess is another good one, but the feedback loop is not nearly as tight.

tmaly··on Qwen3.6-35B-A3B: Agentic coding power, now open to all
That is pretty solid, I have a 2070 with 8GB VRAM and 64GB RAM, but I haven't run too much. I regret not getting a 3090 back when I built this machine.
tmaly··on Congress extends controversial surveillance powers for 10 days
Did I miss something, or was Section 702 the same thing used on Trump during his first term?
tmaly··on Europe has "maybe 6 weeks of jet fuel left"
One of Australia's two remaining refineries, the one that makes jet fuel, just caught on fire.
tmaly··on Qwen3.6-35B-A3B: Agentic coding power, now open to all
What is the min VRAM this can run on given it is MOE?
tmaly··on Claude Opus 4.7
I am waiting for the 2x usage window to close to try it out today.

If they are charging 2x usage during the most important part of the day, doesn't this give OpenAI a slight advantage as people might naturally use Codex during this period?

tmaly··on Where the DOGE Operatives Are Now
I can't help but notice the quality of the writing on this article is very low. Years ago Wired use to write with quite a bit more flair.
tmaly··on Where did my taxes go?
I would be happy if all the laws both at the state and federal level were under version control and we could see who added each line.
tmaly··on Anthropic is preparing to release new models – Mythos and Capybara
"propaganda engineering" should be a new role to replace growth
tmaly··on Ask HN: How is AI-assisted coding going for you professionally?
not everything is slop, sometimes you can just use it like a brainstorm session to see if you missed something.
tmaly··on Walmart: ChatGPT checkout converted 3x worse than website
I had the opposite, but it was for a SSD for a raspberry pi 5. I asked it to look online for good price. It found a place, and I ordered it. It was not a well known site like Walmart, but I got what I needed.
tmaly··on WFH is becoming a benefit again
The high performers are usually the first to leave under tighter RTO conditions

tmaly··on Astral to Join OpenAI
Would single maintainers of critical open source projects be a better situation?
tmaly··on Ask HN: How is AI-assisted coding going for you professionally?
If Claude Code can parse these design documents, I would recommend making a skill to do an adversarial review of the document. Then just generate that review, do some minor edits to make it look like a human wrote it and send it back to them.
tmaly··on Ask HN: Why can't we just make more RAM?
Currently I am wondering how the helium shortage due to the conflict in the middle east is impacting chip production in general.
tmaly··on Judge orders restoration of Voice of America
Reading the article, Lake said this decision is going to be appealed.

The ultimate resolution will likely have to happen at the Supreme Court.

tmaly··on Federal Right to Privacy Act – Draft legislation
Maybe we need a phrase like ad-machinam to attack LLMs.
tmaly··on Starlink Mini as a failover
I stumbled on a long article post by John Conrad @johnkonrad about War on Rocks on X that explains this mentality. I haven't seen it put this way before.
tmaly··on MM120, a pharmaceutical form of LSD, shown to reduce anxiety symptoms (2025)
There will always be a need to drive more clicks and more comments.
tmaly··on Show HN: Lux – Drop-in Redis replacement in Rust. 5.6x faster, ~1MB Docker image
sounds like it was vibe coded?
tmaly··on Elon Musk pushes out more xAI founders as AI coding effort falters
I think it would have been better to have just brought Ashok Elluswamy over and placed him in charge of a group and then tried to just keep the researchers on rather than firing them. It is hard to get anything done if you do not have the talent already onboard.
tmaly··on Run NanoClaw in Docker Sandboxes
I have thought of this ship a spec concept. What is we are just trading markdown files instead of code files to implement some feature into our system?
tmaly··on Reliable Software in the LLM Era
I remember seeing an NVIDIA LLM contest a year or two ago related to TLA+
tmaly··on US banks' exposure to private credit hits $300B (2025)
If there are credit default swaps involved anywhere, this could amplify the pain in the economy.
tmaly··on Show HN: Rudel – Claude Code Session Analytics
I have seen numbers claiming tools are only called 59% of the time.

Saw another comment on a different platform where someone floated the idea of dynamically injecting context with hooks in the workflow to make things more deterministic.
