tmaly··on One resignation turned the embers of AI fear into a wildfire
Jacob Coxon is listed as a 2021 fellow on Newspeak House's official site. Media has called Newspeak a hub of "civic hackers" aiming to improve/hack democratic tools and processes.
tmaly··on GPU World
I don't see how an even playing field can exist given the Power law
tmaly··on 25,000 Lbs. Of Chicken Products Recalled in 5 States: USDA
I recall there was a farmer trying to sue over the USDA Organic rating. From what I recall, if something is produced outside the US and they apply the label, the USDA takes them at their word and does not actually test it.
tmaly··on Ask HN: If I am 16 what should I learn? Which books should read?
I would highly recommend Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss it teaches negotiation skills that you will use almost every day in life.
tmaly··on Autistici/Inventati's main .org domain goes dark after US terrorism designation
what ever happened to the idea of DNS on the blockchain?
tmaly··on Ask HN: What is one simple thing LLMs are insanely bad at?
I find they are bad at document layout. They can generate typst templates but you often have to iterate back and forth quite a bit to get the layout you want.
tmaly··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
I see this as a reaction of the administration to the judge’s injunction against their 75 country visa policy.
tmaly··on Show HN: A free mini game that makes you a smarter fly fisherperson
I could see these types of games being useful in education
tmaly··on U.S. used 'virtually all' of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war
How could someone even verify this claim?
tmaly··on TSA Privatization Returns Airport Security to a Dangerous Past
I think I would prefer more accountability, if a private firm can do that, than I see no issue.
tmaly··on The bond market isn’t buying what Fed Chair Warsh is selling
The direction of the 10Y is what people should care about as this a proxy for mortgage rates.

The current direction is not going where consumers would want.

tmaly··on DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731 Intelligence, Performance and Price Analysis
have you used it for anything outside of coding?
tmaly··on Why a $154B CEO just endorsed stripping most Americans of voting rights
I think there is a bigger issue here.

Charging people for their fundamental rights.

It happens in many different ways. Look at all these people that just want to live and they can't even do that without having to pay to exists.

It is getting to be like that movie "In Time" where there is a clock you have to keep funding or you expire.

tmaly··on Inflect-Micro-v2: complete voice in 9.36M parameters
This is impressive. I wish there were a voice clone option.
tmaly··on Is OpenRouter miss pricing GPT 5.6 models?
I noticed the new GPT 5.6 models both regular and Pro are priced the same for input and output token costs. Is this right?
tmaly··on GPT-5.6
One of my best use cases for the short duration I have fable is to use it to create the plan and acceptance test files then use GPT 5.5 Pro to do an adversarial review on the plan then feed that feedback into fable to fix the plan.
tmaly··on Re: I'm Begging You to Leave Your AI Note-Taker at Home
I like the analog method of writing notes in my notebook. My writing is pretty clean, so if I need it digital, I snap a photo and ask AI to OCR it to text.
tmaly··on Automate Excel with Python: From manual grind to one-click workflow
I am guessing from the TOC that they are using pandas. My team quickly ran into memory spikes when multiple programs using pandas would run. We have since migrated to using ibis with a duckdb backend to smooth out the memory spikes.
tmaly··on 45°C cooling design cuts data center water use to near zero
It would be interesting if we had a way to turn heat into stored energy like a type of capacitor.
tmaly··on Windows 10 quietly gets one more year of support and updates
I already enrolled in this extended update, so I am happy that I get some additional time.

The big issue is that my bios doesn't have a way to switch to what is needed to meet Windows 11 requirements, and I would have to wipe my machine.

I was looking for all these hacks, but I need to use my machine for work so I have to stay on Windows 10 for now.

tmaly··on Deno 2.9
I sort of recall what Deno was, but can someone provide a TLDR?

What models and tools did you use to create this?

What were your biggest challenges in making this?

tmaly··on Wages in America Are Too Low for the 30% Rule to Work for Renters Anymore
If you look at the amount of money created since Covid, this explains a lot of this increase in asset prices.

But beyond that, interest rates are a big driver of what people can afford for a monthly mortgage. These rates may come down a little. However, the FED facility that was creating sub 3% rates was likely a once in a lifetime opportunity.

tmaly··on US holds off blacklisting DeepSeek, more than 100 firms deemed security risks
that is open to debate. Any commercial activity with a sanctioned entity has a pretty broad interpretation. Companies might not want to take the chance even if they are "still allowed".
tmaly··on Anthropic employees accuse Trump administration of targeting them
Philip Zimmermann
tmaly··on Has AI already killed self-help nonfiction books?
I still buy paper books and audit books even with Anna's Archive.
tmaly··on Stanford grads walk out on Google CEO Sundar Pichai speech
I saw someone post this was due to H1B visas. Then I drilled into the comments and saw it was a Palestine protest. It is getting hard to know what is true anymore as everyone is trying to push their own narrative.
tmaly··on Anthropic flies staff to D.C. to clean up White House fight
Back when encryption and PGP was the hot topic, similar things happened with sovereigns.
