titaphraz··on US Government threatens Harvard with foreign student ban
Mango Mussolini's first term was a trial run for fascism but few on his team were onboard. Now he's back with full team of loonies.
titaphraz··on US Government threatens Harvard with foreign student ban
"... he's America's Hitler"

-- JD Vance, Vice president of USA on Trump, President of USA.

(Before JD became VP)

titaphraz··on Kermit: A typeface for kids
> Combining science and design creativity can improve a child’s confidence in reading, changing their trajectory in life. Kermit is, therefore, ...

You don't get away with just slapping out a statement like that unless you provide a scientific paper to back up your work.

titaphraz··on CVE program faces swift end after DHS fails to renew contract
It's exhausting because of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firehose_of_falsehood
titaphraz··on CVE program faces swift end after DHS fails to renew contract
That's a massive issue. Every topic is so polarized that it's as if it's evil vs. good.

But I think people are waking up, because things they took as non-political god given right is being made political and taken away.

titaphraz··on 4chan Sharty Hack And Janitor Email Leak
That's a bit sinisterly of you.
titaphraz··on A Reddit bot drove me insane
After Reddit's API fiasco 2 years ago, things started to degrade really fast. Today, everything is more bland, less insightful comments and more aggravated/toxic comments. I mostly visit due to habit and mostly I feel worse afterwards. It wasn't like that.

Even on communities like r/woodworking, which used to be a bunch of nice people. I mean, how can you be toxic and a woodworker at the same time? Sure, occasionally you'd get someone that hammered his thumb but that was the exception.

titaphraz··on Open source and self hostable/private file converter
It's not clear to me why that's a problem?
titaphraz··on Less Htmx Is More
I really hope this won't become the new craze. The examples triggers all my irritation triggers. I couldn't use a website like that.
titaphraz··on Foreign visits into the U.S. fell off a cliff in March
Countries all over the world are issuing US travel warnings. If there's an error or mistake on your visa you risk being detained by ICE for weeks on end or even end up in the Gulag in El Salvador.

For European visitors, they can see the fascism miles away. A lot of Europe was occupied by Hitler while the US wasn't. The extraordinary claim that Musk's salute wasn't a Nazi salute is mind boggling. Even when people have seen it side by side: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1Zwiv8erk0

titaphraz··on What if we made advertising illegal?
Yep, it's hard. Let's deter it in the first place with imprisonment for the CEO if convicted. Ads will be amazingly informative.
titaphraz··on What If We Made Advertising Illegal?
A start would be banning of misleading statements and half-truths.

A panel of randomly selected 100 people will be the judge and jury.

titaphraz··on Ferron – A fast, memory-safe web server written in Rust
Kudos. It would have been nice to see benchmarks compared to Nginx, since it's extremely popular.

I'm not using any of the other servers in the benchmark so it's meaningless to me.

titaphraz··on Yoko: A Biography
Whatever the actual work that was, the sound engineer did the world a favor by cutting the cord to her mic right there and then.
titaphraz··on The End of Sierra as We Knew It, Part 1: The Acquisition
> People want these simulations to be as realistic as possible

Have you ever played D&D? There is no graphics, it's all in your head. I've played amazing adventures many years ago that I can still visualize in my head.

titaphraz··on 'A hostile state': Why some travellers are avoiding the US
US is now shipping people to El Salvador "by mistake" without a way of getting them back: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politic...

This is from the playbook, it's a trial run for "Night and Fog": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nacht_und_Nebel

titaphraz··on Turso SQLite Offline Sync Public Beta
A lot of offline sync projects just drop data on conflict and pretend it didn't happen. It's the salesman job to divert your questions about it.

I found another blogpost from turso where they say they offer 3 options on conflict: drop it, rebase it (and hope for no conflict?) and "handle it yourself".

Writing an offline sync isn't hard. Dealing with conflicts is a PITA.

titaphraz··on The Real Book (2021)
It's insane to think that so many owe so much to an contraband book.

There's a very good podcast about (music) copyright and how it's used and abused. The podcast is mainly about Men At Work's "Down Under" and the crazy copyright case that hit them: https://www.podbean.com/media/share/dir-xqda4-23ebff8b

titaphraz··on The Epicenter of Conspiracy Belief
> Individuals with economically left-wing and culturally conservative attitudes tend to score highest on conspiracy thinking.

Because conspiracy is usually committed by right-wing individuals?

titaphraz··on Most promoted and blocked domains on Kagi
Pintrest owns all the top 7 blocked results. Good, they've earned it.

I never understood why Google let them destroy Google Image search results.

titaphraz··on Problems with the heap
Responsible disclosure has been a thing for a long time. This is not a professional behavior.
titaphraz··on NotaGen: Symbolic Music Generation
Is your goal to break down audio to individual instrument's sheet music? That'd be nothing short of amazing.
