titaphraz··on Business books are entertainment, not strategic tools
The main theme is survivorship bias: https://xkcd.com/1827/

There's nothing wrong with telling your story in a book. But telling it as a half truth is just as bad a lying.

titaphraz··on ALICE detects the conversion of lead into gold at the LHC
Are there economists here?

If you could make (non radioactive) gold AND keep it secret, how much (oz?) could you produce a year without substantially affect gold's market value? Asking for a friend.

titaphraz··on Fui: C library for interacting with the framebuffer in a TTY context
That's very interesting, two comments:

- Automatic black box with autocomplete is a deal breaker for me. It'll drive me mad.

- I only use the mouse in the terminal if I have to (it disturbs and slows my flow!). So anything that helps me NOT using the mouse would be better. At the moment I think it's only text select/copy I use the mouse for. And resize the window. So a magic quick way to select text and copy from the keyboard would be very nice.

But I do realize I'm not the intended audience.

titaphraz··on I decided to pay off a school’s lunch debt
> in the Netherlands all kids are basically expected to bring their own cold sandwiches every day

Nothing wrong with that. But there's a massive difference of everyone bringing their sandwiches vs. everyone getting a hot meal but little Johnny having his yanked away because his parents can't afford it.

titaphraz··on I decided to pay off a school’s lunch debt
> The thing about witnessing a 7-year-old having their hot lunch tray yanked away and replaced with a cold sandwich

It's bizarre that this happens in America.

titaphraz··on Hyper – Outperform React on every metric
That's simple. It's so simple that it uses the word simple 12 times in that simple short text. That must be very simple. Simple as that! I like simple stuff.
titaphraz··on TeleMessage, a modified Signal clone used by US govt. officials, has been hacked
Would handling governmental data make you a high value target?
titaphraz··on Design for 3D-Printing
I highly recommend MangoJelly Solutions's tutorials.

But he has a bunch of other videos.

titaphraz··on Show HN: A motherfucking app (does one thing, under 300 LOC)
There is never silence. Software buttons can do two things, a) what they say they do, or if not, b) trigger my rage response right away.
titaphraz··on Show HN: I built a synthesizer based on 3D physics
Seriously cool! A Linux build on the horizon?
titaphraz··on Show HN: A motherfucking app (does one thing, under 300 LOC)
Yikes! Sorry!
titaphraz··on Show HN: A motherfucking app (does one thing, under 300 LOC)
I click "Download the App" and fuck all happens. How the hell did you fuck up that simple app?
titaphraz··on Show HN: A motherfucking app (does one thing, under 300 LOC)
Lord jesus fucking christ. I love this motherfucking shit.
titaphraz··on Effective Go
> Note added January, 2022: This document was written for Go's release in 2009, and has not been updated significantly since. Although it is a good guide to understand how to use the language itself, thanks to the stability of the language, it says little about the libraries and nothing about significant changes to the Go ecosystem since it was written, such as the build system, testing, modules, and polymorphism. There are no plans to update it, ...
titaphraz··on Retailers will soon have only about 7 weeks of full inventories left
> China will definitely blink first

There are other countries in the world apart from US and China. US has effectively alienated most of these with tariffs (save for Russia).

So prepare for a lot of friendly blinking between these countries to gang up on the bully.

titaphraz··on Read the Obits
It's really hard to find stuff from the "old internet" on google. I know it's there. But instead it feeds me garbage marketing articles that just touch the surface and then try to sell me something.
titaphraz··on University of Waterloo withholds coding contest results over suspected AI use
No. The guy showed up in Bows & Arrows contest with M1 Abrams.
titaphraz··on Your phone isn't secretly listening to you, but the truth is more disturbing
Pretty much every time I add a new contact to my phone I start to get really strange ads online. I figured it out when I added a guy who's retiring for the army. I started getting retirement ads for soldiers.

Then, I add a guy I loosely know and what do I start seeing? Cocaine rehab ads. I shit you not. It's not hard to argue that this is more than a minor privacy violation.

titaphraz··on Microsoft subtracts C/C++ extension from VS Code forks
This was foreseen 3 years ago: https://ghuntley.com/fracture/
titaphraz··on America's cyber defenses are being dismantled from the inside
What does it cost to lose the control over it? I'm sure the an equivalent database could be maintained in another country for a lot cheaper, like in China or Russia.
titaphraz··on Reverse engineering the obfuscated TikTok VM

Yeah right.

titaphraz··on Getting forked by Microsoft
Microsoft loves open source, remember? It doesn't love you.
titaphraz··on Show HN: JuryNow – Get an anonymous instant verdict from 12 real people
Brilliant idea. To make it more accurate:

- Don't force people to participate in jury duty when waiting for jury answer. Many of them will just click random answers.

- Provide "I don't know/Skip" as an answer. Otherwise the options are "Pick a random" and "Logout"

- Allow jury to write text feedback or at least give them a button saying "All provided answers are wrong / NA / Fallacy / ... "

- "your verdict is simulated by AI" if there aren't enough people logged in. Don't do that. I have no interested in that answer.

titaphraz··on UML diagram for the DDD example in Evans' book
Thanks. I was only going to find the part about UML but I ended listening to the whole thing. What a legend!
titaphraz··on UML diagram for the DDD example in Evans' book
UML was a scam really. They took a lot of very useful diagrams and created a absolute behemoth of unproven system to develop software and sold it.

The diagrams are very nice and useful. But the UML as a process, if taken literally, it a total disaster.

titaphraz··on 15,000 lines of verified cryptography now in Python
> Lines of code is a pretty poor measurement

But let's say at least that it's abused, exploited, perverted and a molested measurement before we call it a poor one. It not all that bad when you have context.

titaphraz··on Deafening Silence from the Cybersecurity Industry
> He is a self-made multi-billionaire

HAHAHA! No he's not. He inherited his dad's empire. Tanked it and the Russians bailed him out.

He's a charlatan, fraudster and a con artist.
