tiredwired··on McDonald’s High-Tech Makeover Is Stressing Workers Out
I went to a McDonald's yesterday. The cashier stepped away from the register as I was walking up. I turned around and walked a few feet to the touchscreen order system and entered my order. At the payment screen it said to take a number card to my table. No number cards were left and 4 people were now in line at the register. I turned around and left. Jack In The Box was down the street.
tiredwired··on Ask HN: It's 1954, how do you charge a cell phone?
Open the phone. Take the battery out of the phone and test the output. Replace the battery with 1954 tech. Don't bother with the USB-C port.
tiredwired··on Ask HN: Do startups often fake KPI results in order to further drive employees?
They sometimes project based on projections of estimates modeled from alternate facts scaled within fuzzy sliding windows and unrelated quantifiable numbers.
tiredwired··on How I Used Eve Online to Predict the Great Recession (2013)
Similar thing for me except I did it late 2004. I moved back in 2010 and now trying to decide when to sell and hit the road with the profits.
tiredwired··on Lost Art of Bending Over: How Other Cultures Spare Their Spines
I blame it on school PE classes where they make you touch your toes repeatedly. They act like there is something wrong with you if you are not flexible that way.
tiredwired··on The time has come to remove Facebook from your life (2017)
Facebook has become the place my 60+ year old aunts and uncles share false/exaggerated/fake news. Doesn't matter how many times I point out how easily they can search for the real facts. The sky is falling every day.
tiredwired··on Ask HN: Startup refuses to remove your card from their system?
Report it as fraud to your credit card company or cancel your card and have a new one issued.
tiredwired··on How hard for a modern programmer to learn a language from the future?
100 years in the future you will be able to describe an idea to an AI which will create whatever the idea is for you. "OK Google, make a Facebook without all the fake news." No programming languages.
tiredwired··on Amazon Go and the Future
Wealthy people buy the cow.
tiredwired··on Ask HN: What do you wish someone would build, that you can't be bothered to?
Something that quickly cleans dog shit or whatever else I step in off the bottom of my shoes.
tiredwired··on California's hidden homeless: workers living in cars due to property prices
People will still complain about anything more expensive than living in a car or tent.
tiredwired··on Fire at a homeless encampment sparked Bel-Air blaze that destroyed homes
The arsonists and thieves can go to jail. The rest can take advantage of the existing programs and stop refusing help.
tiredwired··on Fire at a homeless encampment sparked Bel-Air blaze that destroyed homes
Yes, there is one between my complex and a highway in San Jose. There was a big fire there last week. No news coverage. We were lucky it did not burn our homes down. These people have been offered help in the past and refuse it. The area gets cleared out and they return. They harass women in the neighborhood and steal everything they can get their hands on. They have to go.
tiredwired··on “Faking It Till You Make It” Is Disingenuous
Faking it is fine when you are working for people who are also faking it competing in an industry of fakers making a product for people who want to fake it. Just make your fake more real than others fake.
tiredwired··on Ask HN: I'm a solopreneur and I feel demoralised
Make a list at the end of the day of what you should do tomorrow. Use that list in the morning to get started.
tiredwired··on Ask HN: Why Programmer Is One of the Jobs That Are Disappearing?
https://www.bls.gov/ooh/computer-and-information-technology/...

They seem to think US programming jobs will be outsourced to other countries.

tiredwired··on Ask HN: What's your primary news source?

tiredwired··on Any recommendation on a good accountant?
Questions like this are great when you don't give your location.
tiredwired··on Google Docs are offline
not down but, very very very slow to load in San Jose, CA.
tiredwired··on Silicon Valley’s ‘car people’ push homeless crisis to the brink
These 9 places in America will pay you to move there: http://www.sfgate.com/living/article/9-places-America-pay-yo...
tiredwired··on Nasa’s ambitious plan to save Earth from a supervolcano
Good spot for the new Amazon HQ.
tiredwired··on Arcosanti, Paolo Soleri’s Arizona experiment in urban planning
I visited Arcosanti as a child in the late 70's and then again about 10 years ago. It looked like the city of the future in the 70's. 30 years later it did not seem like it aged well. It's like those Olympic stadiums that fall into disrepair a few years after the Olympics.

I visited Biosphere 2. It's a completely different environment from Arcosanti. It failed to meet expectations despite how much money was invested.

tiredwired··on George Hotz: I Can Make Your Car Drive Itself for Under $1,000
How about something simpler first like a robot that picks up dog crap?
tiredwired··on Apple Is No Longer America's Favorite Tech Company
I used a Mac for everything since 2008 but, they do not make a computer I want to buy any more.
tiredwired··on Can any one explain the Si Valley fascination with (driverless) Automobiles?
Tesla cars are a reality and continue to improve self-driving, efficiency and safety. General Motors and Chrysler went bust a few years ago and had to be bailed out. VW cheated on diesel emissions. The incumbents suck.
tiredwired··on Can any one explain the Si Valley fascination with (driverless) Automobiles?
40,000 people in the US were killed in car accidents in 2016. Millions more were injured. Seems like a worthwhile thing to disrupt.
tiredwired··on Ask HN: How would you repurpose bulk old computers?
If they are less powerful & efficient than a Raspberry Pi then probably not worth trying to use them for anything other than nostalgia.
tiredwired··on Ask HN: iPhone 8 or 8 plus or X? Which one would you buy if money was no object?
X
tiredwired··on Toys ‘R’ Us Plans Bankruptcy Filing Amid Debt Struggle
Maybe they will live again in virtual reality.
tiredwired··on I have a Million Dollar startup. Should I opt for a job at Big 4?
Why not a 100 million dollar startup or a billion dollar startup?
