tingol··on UK court allows ANN patent saying computer programs exclusion does not apply
Software patents are a bad joke, thanks for being one of the pioneers of the worst thing to happen in our field.
tingol··on White House warns of ‘unprecedented’ Serbian troop buildup on Kosovo border
Not even close. Vucic got a lot of people angry by eroding the country with corruption and is now trying to stir up shit before yet another "sudden" election to continue his reign. The man is a bitch and nothing will come of this.
tingol··on Tales of the M1 GPU
Dota 2 runs pretty great.
tingol··on White House is pushing ahead research to cool Earth by reflecting back sunlight
Or not build out a continent to suit cars and not people? Disgusting city planning that lead to not having a car being nearly impossible in the US.
tingol··on Mozilla claims Apple, Google and Microsoft force users to use default browsers
So where were you exactly when PRISM was sweeping info from all tech companies?
tingol··on Cannabis legalization decreases stock market value of major pharmaceutical firms
That's silly. Weed is exactly that, a WEED, it grows freaking everywhere why the need for transport?
tingol··on John Carmack: Best Programming Setup and IDE – Lex Fridman Podcast Clips
I went the other way, as soon as VSCode-like language server protocol was available for neovim I dropped VSCode. Now I have the same speed with modern features too. In the end it's what's best for you that counts, having quality options helps a lot.
tingol··on I raised my kids on the command line and they love it
You mean like a laptop?
tingol··on If I cold emailed you, I apologize
I'd for one like to thank him for reconsidering, there's never been more ways in human history to advertise your business. Don't make a day worse for 800 people for a small edge. If your project is special you will find an audience by other means.

A lot of businesses and individuals give out a contact for business inquiries if they're interested in something like that.

tingol··on ‘Blade Runner’ at 40
2049 did so many things well (great visuals, great acting, waaaay better love story, better detecting!), but the main story sucked so much. The messianic human/replicant hybrid and the foreshadowed uprising seemed so cheap. The original asked hard questions that's why it's still talked about, the sequel took it away and answered it itself and quite poorly IMO.
tingol··on ‘Blade Runner’ at 40
Yeah, I'm not opening any movie topics on HN based on replies to this one :D
tingol··on FTC action against Harley-Davidson and Westinghouse for limiting right to repair
Uhm, that would be great. Not having my Cinema filled with comic book (or whatever the flavor of the decade is) trash but quality passion projects from people that actually care about art sounds amazing. And most money would go to actual artists and not faceless mega corps.
tingol··on SpaceX said to fire employees involved in letter rebuking Elon Musk
My bad, he's the most egregious offender of that BS in the media space. What I'm getting at here is that the US has no true left. Your workers are exploited and healthcare/education/life costs are making it so that jumping over the poverty line is getting so hard you might as well live in a third world country.

And somehow the narrative is about the non-existent 'radicalized left' doing stuff and cultural Marxists trying to change our pronouns. It just feels sad to hear.

tingol··on SpaceX said to fire employees involved in letter rebuking Elon Musk
Oh my god the Patterson bullshit. Please mate, stop the cap. Bernie Sanders is the furthest 'left' in the US and man wants free education and healthcare which are the status quo in every other developed country.

Cultural Marxism is not a thing, please educate yourself beyond the videos of the lobster psychologist. You claim the left is 'radicalized' in a right-wing country where the right-wing party literally tried to undermine democracy through an insurrection less then a year ago...

tingol··on SpaceX said to fire employees involved in letter rebuking Elon Musk
No he's not. You do realize free healthcare, education and social security is the DEFAULT in Europe. Even in conservative countries. That's far from 'far left'.
tingol··on SpaceX said to fire employees involved in letter rebuking Elon Musk
What US far left lol? Genuinely curious European here.
tingol··on Organice: An implementation of Org mode without the dependency of Emacs
Have you tried vimwiki? It's vim, it's text so you can copy stuff from wherever.

Org mode is good and all but my god listening to people talk about it makes it seem they are building a fucking rocket by themselves based on how convoluted and massive their notes are. For regular people who just want notes that are searchable and connectable VimWiki is awesome.

tingol··on In which a laptop defies the trends
You can't use your fingers on matte screens.
tingol··on In which a laptop defies the trends
I don't know in which world you live in but there is no amount of shuffling that can make you see stuff with a glossy screen out in the sun...
tingol··on Ask HN: What's the most life-changing blog post you've ever read?
That's because they did it centuries before Christianity?
tingol··on “They introduce kernel bugs on purpose”
I come to your car, cut your breaks, tell you just before you go on a ride, say it's just research and I will repair them. What would you call a person like that?
tingol··on AirPods Max one-month review: heavy, pricey and not worth it
But you are brainwashed, thinking you need metal on your head instead of plastic which is far superior and lighter. You literally convinced yourself that an inferior product is great. Not that beats are the top of the line, they never were, but using AirPods Max vs Sony 1000MX4 is night and day.
tingol··on Twitter deletes China embassy's Xinjiang 'emancipation' tweet
You're missing the main point, our fact-checking has never been so fast and efficient, but the point is people just ignore it (e.g. fake ballots being burned, debunked minutes later and millions still believe it).
tingol··on The science of addiction: Do you always like the things you want?
No, its just that by the time you want to you are addicted. Had plenty of friends addicted to gaming and smoking, you can guess which group dropped the addiction in way higher numbers...
tingol··on Ask HN: Why do they make cars go so fast if it’s illegal?
If you had any you wouldn't be here to post about it.
tingol··on Heavy is the Head that wears the AirPods Max
He was probably the DJ.
tingol··on Cydia, the original app store, sues Apple on antitrust grounds
The most serious breaches of privacy have been made by governments with backdoors and not some script kiddies... Either way, nothing will be taken away from you if another app store is available. Just continue using the Apple app store as you did before. You're taking away the choice of others just because you feel yours is best.
tingol··on Cydia, the original app store, sues Apple on antitrust grounds
The same could be said about 3rd party car mechanics that have MUCH HIGHER stakes (your life behind the wheel), yet it is illegal for car manufacturers to ban someone else from fixing your car. But Apple zealots act like a ending a monopoly on app installation will ruin everything.

If the warning box says THIS IS A BIG SECURITY RISK and you click anyway it's your own choice, but a choice given in every single product and market created by man. A stupid phone is not where you draw the line and give it up.

tingol··on Cydia, the original app store, sues Apple on antitrust grounds
It is very easy to make a case actually, the equivalent would be no music besides iTunes store (no spotify). Same thing for games (no epic store, no steam, no GOG etc). Just because Apple provides a good experience doesn't give them the right to disallow competition. Don't fall into Stockholm syndrome.
tingol··on How to Think for Yourself
Not very popular nowadays, but saying "I don't know" or "I am not informed enough" is always an option. You make it out as if you have to have a perfectly individual and informed opinion on everything there is which is pretty much impossible.
