Vaultwarden is the way. API parity at a fraction of the footprint
timboslice··on Things we did not do while reaching $2M ARR
> We did not A/B test anything.

> We did not waste money.

I would argue that you did waste (potential) money by not optimizing your marketing funnels. Regardless, this list was a great reminder that the core of what we should focus on is putting your product in front of customers and making it better, not micro-optimizing.

timboslice··on Help Take the Fight to COVID-19 with BOINC and Folding@Home
Folding at home is running out of work because of the overwhelming response. I've found that sometimes restarting the FAH client/container will trigger a new job even after being stuck in a loop for hours
timboslice··on Are Heroku and Heroku-hosted sites down?
We had approximately 13 minutes of downtime across all apps. Even Heroku's own docs were down
timboslice··on Show HN: Tailwind Builder – online editor for the Tailwind CSS framework
Love this. For those of us with existing colors, plugins etc in our config, any chance you plan on allowing import of existing configs? Even if just for the colors in the beginning

timboslice··on Ford Buying San Francisco-Area E-Scooter Startup Spin
There are slightly more expensive models that are 500W-1000W+. The Segway and M365 are ~350W. I had a hard time with the battery life on the Segway ES2 on hills, but am a little bit over the supported weight limit

timboslice··on Windows 10 users are being banned from torrent sites
Pretty good. It usually comes down to the drivers available. AMD is doing good things with open source drivers, while Nvidia usually lags behind.

timboslice··on Reversing NvAPI to Programmatically Overclock Nvidia GPUs
MSI Afterburner runs pretty well. Not sure if it is "approved" or not, but I'd assume so as MSI is an Nvidia partner.
timboslice··on Reversing NvAPI to Programmatically Overclock Nvidia GPUs
I was looking at the GTX 980 but settled on a GTX 970. It overclocks pretty well and I put the money I saved into a new SSD :)

timboslice··on A Drug Hits Cycling Before It Hits the Market
> rock-solid chain-of-custody for the blood samples

Proof is the "alleged" steroid use of Ryan Braun - the Major League Baseball case where the guy in charge of the sample left it in his home over the weekend and Braun got off on this technicality

timboslice··on Mobile Safari's Performance Is Not the Problem
The Google Analytics Measurement Protocol allows developers to make HTTP requests to send raw user interaction data directly to Google Analytics servers. YMMV, I haven't tried it yet but want to hook it into our app asap.

10+ years ago I was at a public library with terminals that were in kiosk mode with IE in fullscreen, hidden start menu etc. I used a paperclip to eject the cd drive, put in a CD with autorun, and voila, visible start menu and was able to get to the internet from IE
timboslice··on Pixbuf – A social media tool for photographers
TL;DR:

Upload your images, they extract EXIF for metadata, resize it and upload to all your services. Automatically social sharing buffer comes with analytics aggregated from all your services - you can now see how popular your work is and why.

timboslice··on Show HN: AppCanary – Keep vulnerable software off your servers
At my day job I am stuck on a Windows IIS stack.

Any plans for windows servers? I'd honestly prioritize this after application dependencies checking for Java/Node etc, but just thought I'd ask.

timboslice··on New fees cast shadow on HEVC
> everyone in the industry should've been more bullish on open source standards

This, 100x this. Look at the pedigree of Xiph[1] - non-profit corporation dedicated to protecting the foundations of Internet multimedia from control by private interests.

1. Ogg/Vorbis

2. FLAC

3. Opus/Speex - low latency voice codecs

4. Theoria video codec

5. Icecast

etc.

These people know how to get stuff done.
