thsksbd··on U.S.-Saudi petrodollar pact ends after 50 years
Geez.

US oil is fracked, which means that to get out of the microscopic fissures in the rocks only the lighter stuff comes out.

This makes excellent gasoline. By the way, this is also why we've become a CH4 power house.

Unfortunately, the US runs on diesel. We don't produce much heavy oil so we import it.

net it basically cancels out depending on interest rates, price of oil and who's in charge in DC.

Fracking, anyway, is an economic mirage enabled by cheap credit and expensive oil. Fracking sucks because the wells don't produce much.

thsksbd··on U.S.-Saudi petrodollar pact ends after 50 years
We don't (net) sell it. In fact we don't sell very much the world wants
thsksbd··on U.S.-Saudi petrodollar pact ends after 50 years
The petrodollar was never about access to Saudi oil. Even when we imported large amounts of oil, we also produced a lot and we had very many different suppliers.

The petrodollar was about creating a massive market for USD despite us having a massive trade deficit. Every country that wanted to buy oil had to hold USD and US treasuries to buy the oil.

This cemented the USD as the world currency therefore financing our budgetary (as opposed to trade) deficit with cheap interest rates.

That includes the Vietnam and Korean wars - lots of pilots got shot down
thsksbd··on Banana giant Chiquita held liable by US court for funding paramilitaries
Yes because it is a breach to the principle of jurisdiction and it's ultimately based on American imperialism.

Mind you, Id gladly have pedos and banana execs shot in public.

thsksbd··on Remote Amazon tribe did not get addicted to porn
Except when things matter, like an election.

Then, the NyPost is the only media outlet to run a story of a laptop (recently verified by the FBI in court) containing incriminating evidence of corruption of one of the two leading candidates.

thsksbd··on Debian is the greatest Linux distro of them all
O dunno if it's the greatest, but it's good enough that thanks to it Linux became my desktop.

Maybe there's a better distribution? But who has time to explore?

Thanks Debian team!

thsksbd··on HP's RPL as a modern multithreaded lang
A modern, backwards compatible, RPL for your desktop.
thsksbd··on Forsp: A Forth+Lisp Hybrid Lambda Calculus Language
Im not a CS guy, so I dont know what "first class" means.

I can do whatever to a function. I can use it as an argument. I can return it from another function. I can make a function that modifies functions.

All that w/out doing anything out of the ordinary day to day programing.

thsksbd··on Forsp: A Forth+Lisp Hybrid Lambda Calculus Language
The HP engineers were good.

First HP engineers made RPL, then they attended Sussman and Abelson's intro to CS class. I think Sussman once said that, if RPL had anonymous functions it'd be a perfect lisp.

They were real good.

thsksbd··on Forsp: A Forth+Lisp Hybrid Lambda Calculus Language
I been wanting to make a forth+lisp language for a while now - inspired by HP's RPL (its so close to being a lisp!).

Super cool

Was. Their northern region looks sketchy right now.
thsksbd··on Elsevier embeds a hash in the PDF metadata that is unique for each download (2022)
Sci hub is so good. Im a university partner and have accesses to a top research uni's library. I use Sci hun because logging into Elsevier is a massive PIA.
thsksbd··on Woman set up a table to share her collection of washers. Nothing was for sale
No, I think it will also include a smattering of Englishmen, a score of Germans and (maybe) a guy with a mechanical engineering degree who dedicated his career to washers.
thsksbd··on Yes, you can play Duck Hunt without a television (but I can't)
Rookie mistake. My bad.
thsksbd··on Yes, you can play Duck Hunt without a television (but I can't)
There are basically no guns in Japan.
thsksbd··on Yes, you can play Duck Hunt without a television (but I can't)
Dont bother, it sucks. The duck is still trying to fly a certain way and you're really just tugging at him.

If you want to try it out just run Duck Hunt on an emulator. You dont need a crt to just play with the duck

That's inevitable. Management knows they're too big to fail.
thsksbd··on Entropy, a CLI that scans files to find high entropy lines (might be secrets)
This is very cool, but I have a thought - I see this as a last line of defense, and I am concerned that this would this give a false sense of security leading people to be more reckless with secrets.
thsksbd··on UMD study: N95 masks nearly perfect at blocking Covid
Sure, but check your sentence's grammar; it implies you're asking as a general rule of biology.

As to COVID, dunno.

thsksbd··on UMD study: N95 masks nearly perfect at blocking Covid
As exercise in power; after all, motorcycles still exist.

Sure seat belts save lives. Thats why I wear one. But it's also true that many people get off telling other how to do things.

Ya and it's insane. My college for a project bought dozens of fire detectors from the 70s to take the Am out (they had more than todays) for a project.

Of course, he had to take the necessary license before he started that project.

thsksbd··on In Colorado, an ambitious new highway policy is not building them
? The reason no one wants to take the bus or subway in America is not because they are undignified but because they smell like piss. Unlike the buses in Switzerland which are great.

In fact, despite the smell of urine, I used to love Atlantas MARTA for its brilliant airport exit.

There's nothing inherently undignified of public transportation system. America's indignity comes from our inability to clean.

thsksbd··on In Colorado, an ambitious new highway policy is not building them
Thank you for that lifestyle lecture.

My kids hated the bjorn and so did my (very third world communist country) foreign wife. I liked it.

The stroller also has storage space for, for example, the medicine bag that keeps my last kid alive in case he swallows <insert long list of allergens>. The stroller has everything ready to go except the baby and we don't have to don our various accessories.

Finally, as Europeans, we find those Americans and their various polyester bags (back, front, bjorn, fanny, etc) look ridiculous. One looks like a marine about to assault Fallujah. The stroller has a dignity to it that all those bags lack.

thsksbd··on In Colorado, an ambitious new highway policy is not building them
Colorado is five times larger and has a much smaller population.
thsksbd··on Tiny number of 'supersharers' spread the majority of fake news
My list were the lies that the news agencies we are supposed to trust peddled. My examples were lies peddled by the respectable likes of the BBC, The Economist and NPR.

So, unless you want "The Epoch Times" to be included with the truth censors, your donkey movie is not at all like my examples.

Btw, these lies I listed cost millions of lives in the third world. But Im old fashioned like that. I still think Black/Brown lives matter.
