One can imagine a world without JavaScript...
In some ways, I guess I am.
They even have explainer videos, like the one you linked, or this one here from a month later: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60EK-3-kGLI
Their arguments are well produced and cast doubt on the Israeli/American story in every possible way.
But isn't that also what a sophisticated propaganda campaign would look like?
As I said, I watched it unfold live, and my assessment was that they couldn't possibly know there were 800 dead on such short notice. When the sun rose, I expected to see a leveled hospital, like so many other buildings in Gaza. Instead, I saw a tiny crater in a parking lot.
It was then that I learned the "Ministry of Health (Palestine)" is actually a government agency, effectively Hamas. That was the entity that supplied the numbers that drove the headlines that caused so many more problems.
You might think "Who would exaggerate the numbers of dead to cause international outrage!? That's unthinkable!". But they are literal terrorists. This is the playbook.
In the video you linked, they don't show the impact site. They don't mention that the hospital is still very much functioning. They don't show the surrounding buildings not having been impacted. But if you were making an honest assessment of "israeli airstrike on hospital" or "stray rocket hit hospital parking lot", those details make a huge amount of difference.
When it happened, I thought we would see retractions from AJ and other Arab media after the sun rose, but they were continuing to run the "Israel bombs hospital" story while omitting key video and photo details that were widely available on Wikiepdia.
The AJ coverage: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2023/10/16/israel-ha...
From reading the AJ coverage, you would believe that Israel bombed a hospital and killed hundreds. An inexcusable atrocity, obviously, if it were true.
But on Wikipedia, you can see the actual impact of the bombing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Ahli_Arab_Hospital_explosio...
The US and Israel's story of it being a jihad rocket seems consistent with the explosion. The intelligence assessment that it was dozens not hundreds dead seems much more plausible to me.
The AJ perspective seems to be to treat Hamas claims as valid by default throughout this conflict, which I find concerning.
I assumed it was because of a religious ideology, but a state sponsor makes sense too.
I think YouTube doesn't realize the size of the beast they're provoking if they intentionally break downloaders, adblockers, and alternate clients.
If this is a cat and mouse game of technical prowess between hackers and Google engineers to consume content without ads, Google will either lose or use the government to do violence on open source developers.
If that game begins in earnest, then people will fear for the long term existence of YouTube, and it will become self-fulfilling as people mirror content on other sites until the cat-and-mouse game becomes pointless -- investing ever more money into ever smaller returns.
New video sites will gain massive number of users and over-inflate in value if there's a YouTube exodus and the process can begin anew.
She also works on the "Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions" anti-Israel movement.
Maybe she has valuable footage or a valuable viewpoint or just an opinion you're curious about, and that's fine. Just know what you're getting.
If you're looking for objective facts, this might not be it.
Perhaps someone could come up with a clever system for using a dumbphone's numpad to type efficiently...
If you're a university, the goal is to fill up your university with satisfied customers and increase revenue.
If you're a student, the goal is to form social networks that you can later use to help in business.
If you're a politician, the goal is to increase college attendance rates.
If you're a hard-line right winger, the goal is actually to set undesirable groups back, but that's a pretty fringe position.
If you just want to learn and grow, you should avoid the university system entirely.
Remember, kids: you don't get what you deserve -- you get what you negotiate.
Thanks for the link.
Initially I thought this was a corporate project and was looking for the monetization model, but then I found https://github.com/kopia/kopia/blob/master/GOVERNANCE.md
I feel like the project might benefit from making their governance model more prominent on the website.
If you want pain meds, I'm sure it's easy at any of those "pain management clinics" I see advertised.
If you call a few doctors and ask "Does your practice handle worms? I'm worried I might have worms," you'll have at least some of them say "absolutely, all the time, come right in".
If they want a happy customer and they know your expectations and they know the risk of dewormer is low, then they'll probably go along with it to make you a recurring ~~customer~~ patient.
You might not even know you've accidentally guided the doctor in that direction.
I don't know anything about worms, but I'm very certain that I could choose a doctor that would recommend treatment or one that would not, depending on what I've already decided I want.
People have mostly learned photos can be edited. What we need are outlandish experiments and examples, and then media showing off how wild this technology is.
Attempting to bubblewrap this tech both won't work and will lead to more confusion.
Carla: https://github.com/falkTX/Carla
It lets me install any normal audio pro audio plugins, for example https://github.com/xiph/rnnoise
It also does some cable management, but qpwgraph is maybe better for that.
I looked at your code and the approach (IMO) is kind of bad.
If you want to solve the problem of "voice changer", you can skip the UI entirely and just use plugin parameters. You can also skip the problem of managing the connections. And when you publish your work, every pro audio software (Ableton, Reaper, whatever) can use your audio processing.
Hope that helps.
* Make loopback devices that are always there for headphones/mic -- software doesn't handle connection/disconnection well
* Keep all your processing in carla (i load it with systemd as a user unit on login)
* You still need some way to control "pulse audio" (even though it's pipewire provided) for per-app volume control, profile selections, etc, so you probably want pavucontrol for that.
Wait, do I have agoraphobia now?
I thought we were still supposed to be avoiding indoor spaces and crowds on account of the highly infectious disease propagating the globe.
We're supposed to be comfortable sharing air with others again?
* arch linux has tons of `rocm` packages. I installed pretty much all of them: https://archlinux.org/packages/?sort=&q=rocm&maintainer=&fla...
* you also need this one package from AUR: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/opencl-amd
* llama.cpp now has GPU support including "CLBlast", which is what we need for this, so compile with LLAMA_CLBLAST=ON
* now you can run any model llama.cpp supports, so grab some ggml models that fit on the card from https://huggingface.co/TheBloke.
* Test it out with: ./main -t 30 -ngl 128 -m huginnv1.2.ggmlv3.q6_K.bin --color -c 2048 --temp 0.7 --repeat_penalty 1.1 -n -1 -p "### Instruction: Write a story about llamas\n### Response:"
* You should see `BLAS = 1` in the llama.cpp output and you should get maybe 5 tokens per second on a 13b 6bit quantized ggml model.
* You can compile llama-cpp-python with the same arguments and get text-generation-ui to work also, but there's a bit of dependency fighting to do it.
* koboldcpp might be better, I just haven't tried it yet
Hope that helps!
Edit: just tried https://github.com/LostRuins/koboldcpp and it also works great. I should have started here probably.
Compile with `make LLAMA_CLBLAST=1` run with ` python koboldcpp.py --useclblast 0 0 --gpulayers 128 huginnv1.2.ggmlv3.q6_K.bin`
