throwawaywindev··on Microsoft Confirms UWP Is Not the Future of Windows Apps
Coincidentally office is adopting more and more UWP controls in their Win32 app using these publicly available interop technologies.

New stuff is UWP or HTML. Old stuff is mix of GDI and internal UI frameworks.

The problem is the signal to noise ratio is getting so bad that you don’t know what information to trust.
throwawaywindev··on iPhones are hard to use
The WiFi thing is made more complicated by how the Apple Watch works. It uses an adhoc WiFi connection to your iPhone, so you don’t want the toggle to disable that. And it would be confusing to have different behavior depending on whether or not your watch is nearby.

Actually most of the “new” (last three years) UWP Windows 10 UI is C++, and there is more JavaScript/HTML than .NET Native. The Xbox dashboard is .NET Native though and all of us on the Windows UI team are jealous.

The problem that we have is that we have so much infrastructure around C++ that it is expensive to switch. Even if you get faster compile times or theoretically less memory management bugs, you may lose the productivity in other ways if the rest of your tooling isn’t there.

With C# you definitely pay a small cost in memory consumption and a decent cost in binary size vs. C++ though, which still matters.
