throwaway-11-1··on The technology to eradicate mosquito-borne disease exists
My larger point is we aren’t approaching the vast majority of impacts on the environment with any caution at all. Mosquito eradication has been pretty thoroughly studied
throwaway-11-1··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
Yeah compare the GDP per capita of Mississippi to Germany and then tell me which has a better quality of life.

throwaway-11-1··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
It looks like the strait is still closed, the Taliban is back in charge and Syria is run by a former ISIS fighter. I think maybe the point is that the US has put in a lot of effort and resources into these areas with no outcomes benefitting our country, or the the world even
throwaway-11-1··on A/I shuts down
People sharing similar values does not make them an organization. “Why do they wear masks?” because they don’t want nazis to interfere with their jobs, friends and families? You’re asking questions there are very obvious answers to. Seems like a disingenuous comment or you’re unable to do the most basic research
throwaway-11-1··on US Military's cyber command unit grapples with cluster of deaths by suicide

You do realize the US was fighting Uyghur terrorists alongside China 20 years ago in ago in Pakistan’s and Afghanistan for their support and cooperation with Al Queda? Like I know everyone is supposed to hate China now or whatever but can you guys show a little consistency?
throwaway-11-1··on What will be left for us to work on?
Who owns the machines? Work is what we exchange with capital for food and shelter, at this point I'm not so sure they would give it to us for free under any circumstance. I mean look at all the homelessness and medical debt, its clearly a discipline mechanism
throwaway-11-1··on Why are US consumers so angry? It's not just high prices
The only people who think tipping is a good system is business owners who use it as an excuse to not pay living wages. Tips are a highly variable subsidy to workers so the owner's can maintain a higher profit margin
throwaway-11-1··on “Beyond the limit”: Satellites and mirrors in space pose threat to the night sky
Yeah that’s totally fair and really good to see. It’s maybe the one perspective that gives me some hope
throwaway-11-1··on “Beyond the limit”: Satellites and mirrors in space pose threat to the night sky
Your response is not addressing my claims, homelessness is increasing, life expectancy is lagging poorer countries and there are still food security issues not being addressed in the richest country in history. I’m discussing material outcomes and you want to focus on social progress….which is fine I guess? Anyway I have receipts

“We” can’t even effectively distribute food, healthcare and housing yet but yeah I’m sure capital will totally figure it out if we build enough machines that just accumulate more wealth to the richest people in history. I love cool new tech but I’m perfectly aware it will not do shit to solve any problem other than “eliminate or make labor cheaper”
throwaway-11-1··on Why Does Everyone Hate AI?
I don’t get this reasoning, are you saying if other people have to struggle than everyone should? I think art is different in that it’s a medium for connecting feelings from one person to another via an outward expression. Sure there’s a couple artist who use ai and achieve similar outcomes but 99% of ai slop is premised that art is simply an artifact to view, totally detached from inspiration and talent

throwaway-11-1··on Amazon CEO's talks with U.S. officials triggered crackdown on Anthropic models
I get what you’re saying but in the last 20 years can you think of any mass protest that accomplished anything substantial? I don’t really blame people for giving up on it as a tool for change. TBH only truly effective one I can think of would be Jan 6
throwaway-11-1··on Australia Four-Day Work Week Study Data Shows Boosted Productivity
Labor has been completely defeated in the US. Capital sets the terms and has captured the political class. You know this but are using deflection to put blame on individuals who don’t actually hold power. Management can offshore anytime workers present a challenge.
throwaway-11-1··on The AI Backlash Could Get Ugly
the fact no one can actually describe these "new jobs" makes #2 appear increasingly more probable.
throwaway-11-1··on The Disappearance of the Public Bench
when I did homeless outreach in San Diego I was told around 40% of the people we were helping were from out of state that moved there but couldn't stay afloat for various reasons, leaving them homeless in the area
throwaway-11-1··on California leaders report four to six weeks worth of gasoline and diesel supply
Love living in the country with the highest GDP per capita than hearing stuff like this.
throwaway-11-1··on BYD overtakes Tesla and Kia as the best-selling EV brand in key overseas markets
I've had to rent cars a couple times the last year due to flight cancellations. Twice I got a corolla and was really impressed how nice they were, then I got an upgrade to a Cadillac. It had the lousiest transmission and the interior was covered in low quality feeling materials. Honestly at this point I would never buy American, sloppiest fit and finish I've seen.
throwaway-11-1··on Zuckerberg 'Personally Authorized and Encouraged' Meta's Copyright Infringement
probably this, since it was 7 years after he was convicted for prostituting a minor, so its hard to believe any excuse saying they didn't know his background: https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/epstein-secret-pic-wild-...

Also that there are over 2,000 emails with Peter Thiel. Or maybe the part where Sergey Brin was helping Epstein shop for an aircraft carrier (also after conviction). Honestly it was incredibly revealing that none of these people care that he raped kids. I would love to see the Trump files which were withheld but clearly thats never gonna happen.

Anyway, congrats to everyone involved on the MAGA golden age!

throwaway-11-1··on We Are Bombarding America's Forests with Roundup – Mother Jones

throwaway-11-1··on Trump fires NSF's oversight board
the best person to run the country is a bankrupt casino owner and television host (also a pedophile). the best person to run the department of defense is a television show host (also a sex offender). the best person to run the department of transportation is a guy from a reality tv show. The best person to run the department of education is the lady who runs a fake wrestling entertainment media company. the best person to run the FBI is a podcaster who makes children's books.

I hate dei and love meritocracy

throwaway-11-1··on Do you want the US to "win" AI?
A Marxist Leninist vanguard party is objectively demonstrating better management over markets and improving citizen welfare than our decadent bourgeois financial elites. As an American and previously a China hater, it’s painful to admit but it’s clearly true
throwaway-11-1··on All phones sold in the EU to have replaceable batteries from 2027
Apple was a key member of the USB-C consortium, it was always planned to be their universal connector. They waited on switching to avoid public backlash about "why are you switching wires when I already bought all of these wires?". They generally give connectors 10 years before changing them (see 32-pin 2003 - 2012 etc). Doesn't invalidate your larger point, but it incorrectly describes the history of USB-C adoption by Apple.
