throwaw12··on GPT-Synopsys: Frontier Intelligence to Revolutionize Chip Design
> we'll be quite busy in the meantime fixing all the bugs that AI finds.

Maybe that's the job of software engineering moving forward.

Client: Hey, we have got these 125 microservices created by our agents and for the last 25 days they got stuck and can't add any new feature without breaking things, can you take this?

Eng: Sure, lets sign a 24 month contract, my rate is 250$/hr

Client: Sounds good

throwaw12··on GLM-5.3 and the spread of advanced cyber capabilities
First they were telling how GLM-5 distilled their model.

Now they're telling how 'bad' GLM-5.3 at 'censoring' security topics, because Anthropic wanted to sell it to select US companies for millions, but GLM-5.3 is taking their market.

What's next? GLM-5.4 can be used to kill humans, hence we should only allow Opus 5.7?

throwaw12··on US Forces Exit Iraq
Unfortunately, millions of lives lost, another millions started hating US for what it did to their families.

I am curious what did the world gain from this?

throwaw12··on We're gonna need a lot more mathematicians
> We would care about having fun.

For even more people fun is TikTok, Snap, Instagram -> sounds like a collapse of a civilization to me if you increase the ratio even more towards dancing kids sharing their content non-stop with no added value to the society

throwaw12··on Ink and Switch interactive homepage
App they have mentioned is indeed looks awesome: https://allume.com/#pricing

But why subscription for local-only software?

throwaw12··on JetBrains Air: A System of Products for Agentic Software Development
> much more than _writing_ code. It's about code reviews, QA, debugging, discovery, and maintenance;

Of course, but agents are also opening up new possibilities to do these jobs.

For example, you can do quick first code review with agent, or you can ask agent to add couple of print statements and debug the code until it figures out the issue, also for discovery, you can do discovery with agents and generate nice output with the details you want (although not accurate sometimes)

As a JetBrains user myself, whose organization cancelled the IntelliJ license recently, I can attest things I am doing inside IntelliJ is getting less and less. I am primarily using IntelliJ for code navigation at the moment, which is still the best one

throwaw12··on JetBrains Air: A System of Products for Agentic Software Development
I like JetBrains as a company, their pricing for individuals made a lot of sense, you buy the license and you can keep using perpetual license for that version, if you want to buy newer version, you pay slightly less than year before.

I want them to succeed, but can't see how they can win in this agentic world, where people are barely opening their IDEs, and living in agents terminal whole day and from time to time opening a PR to get a review

throwaw12··on Claude Code now reads AGENTS.md if there is no Claude.md
Remember they didn't do this because they wanted to help community, they did it because community was angry and they were losing users to other harnesses.

Doesn't look like Anthropic care about dev community

throwaw12··on How GLM built its own inference infrastructure
I wonder why Chinese AI labs are losers?

In the short term maybe yes, in the long term, maybe they are the winners, they can build on top of cheap inference stack and eventually win on pricing

throwaw12··on Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking
Does anyone know if there is a dedicated model which makes Claude output nore human readable and less slop?

Lately it became load-bearingly-reality-difficult to not only read, but to comprehend the Claude output

throwaw12··on An open letter to Dario: if you mean it, open the weights
I am very skeptical of those 3 faces of American AI labs: Dario, Sam and Elon

Are they trying to stop everyone else from catching up with them or have they hit some kind of roadblock to improve models even further?

But IMO, they're not trying to help humanity

throwaw12··on google.com/goto: Google's anti-scraping update
Do you use any Israeli products? What do you say about them?
throwaw12··on Claude is only available to people over 18 years
It is bad when it's done by nations outside of the West

When West does same, it is capitalism for the prosperity of everyone, healthy competition

throwaw12··on Claude is only available to people over 18 years
Good that we have Chinese models now, we can host anywhere and use as much as we like without age verification.

Also, what's the reason banning minors? Is AI bad for mental health? If so, should companies also ban them to prevent burnout of their employees?

throwaw12··on The Gemini app is now available for Windows
question would be, is it necessary to introduce another point of failure?

of course it is possible, but is this the right time to engineer that solution and make automated screenshot uploads, or connect it to gemini to upload screenshots from time to time?

throwaw12··on The Gemini app is now available for Windows
In which topics Gemini is better? Is it ChatGPT can't handle them or doesn't provide clear explanation?
throwaw12··on The Gemini app is now available for Windows
Because app design can change, if you are showing it in the website, everytime app design changes you need to update website screenshots as well to stay consistent
throwaw12··on Learn Programming with OCaml
> Learn Programming with OCaml

Lately, I keep asking myself, do I need to learn this new thing, should I force myself to learn this thing, LLMs know it anyways and so on.

So (asking genuinely), should we learn these things?

throwaw12··on Nobody has built a software factory
impossible, because bots will adjust to new way of writing very quickly. at the end of the day, they will be trained with the new style
throwaw12··on Quasar 438B: Europe's Leading AI Model
Didn't know the "Highest scoring EU model" has a low bar, lower than Qwen3.8-27B, but still congratulations on the milestone, hopefully next iterations will get better from here
throwaw12··on Our decision on Cursor following its acquisition by SpaceX
Something deep inside me is saying this is good for us, because Cursor will try harder to train better coding models to stay afloat.
throwaw12··on Trade (and Tariffs)
I don't think proposed plan with tariffs will be effective, because once scaled up and generating enough revenue, MBA will come and outsource everything, to make more money
throwaw12··on Qwen3.8-Flash-Next
what if it was because of quantization and they haven't released the new benchmarks for it?

Anything which changes the model needs new benchmarks I guess to compare with other models, otherwise you can benchmark Fable, and distill it to student model and keep claiming this is the Fable model

throwaw12··on Ask HN: What are you using to access x.com at the moment?
you are right, but we also can't control other people who are posting there, lots of AI/ML news happen there because where else can you post them? I don't think instagram, snapchat or facebook is good forum for such news / one-off thoughts.
throwaw12··on OpenAI Jalapeño: Better than Nvidia Blackwell
I am not selling shovels, I just like to see when there is real competition on the market and I hate regulatory capture what Anthropic is trying to do for models, because they are scared of Chinese open weight models.

In terms of GPUs whole world with 8B people have only couple of viable options: Nvidia, AMD, Intel - and largest part of their inventory is going to enterprises to run those LLMs, and its impacting every consumer / hobby projects, like cheap phones, DIY electronics projects and so on.

I want to have more alternatives on the market

throwaw12··on OpenAI Jalapeño: Better than Nvidia Blackwell
these GPUs make computation faster, I understand as of now maybe all the computation is used to generate yet another junk LinkedIn post or unnecessary RFC, but at some point this craze should settle and we will be left with powerful computation machines, which can be used for computing more useful things
throwaw12··on OpenAI Jalapeño: Better than Nvidia Blackwell
Competition is good for all of us, we will get better and faster chips.

Or at least Nvidia GPUs will become slightly cheaper for regular consumers again

throwaw12··on Qwen 3.8-Flash-Next releasing tomorrow (125B a6B)
how much performance (tok/s) can you expect from 128GB Strix Halo? assuming this model will be released with FP8

also can you use it for fine tuning?

throwaw12··on Xiaomi: New CPU matches Apple cores single threaded, much faster multithreaded
> And "the West” does not really do genocide anymore, either

Don't want to get into the definition of genocide, but sure, you can think of whatever you want, but facts are different (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_genocides):

    * Gaza genocide (supported and enabled by West)
    * Bosnian genocide
    * Holocaust
Not classified as genocide but almost similar or even larger impact:

    * Vietnam war
    * Afghanistan
    * Iraq
    * Libya
    * endless sanctions and blockade against Cuban people
> “The West” is not a monolith. It’s made of several countries

some wars on the list were joint operations between US, Britain and NATO, for others you can read this 20 page wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_involving_the_Uni...

throwaw12··on Xiaomi: New CPU matches Apple cores single threaded, much faster multithreaded
> I find it ridiculous that you are so high on “the west is bad, China good”

Can you read what I have written? if not, let me copy what I wrote earlier here:

> I am fine with lesser of 2 evils

> But it obviously has its own problems (e.g. how competitive is the life in China for kids and so on), I am not saying China is perfect

I am not saying China is good, I am saying it is lesser of 2 evils with much less negative impact to the lives of human beings around the world, in my opinion.
