thisislife2··on Militaries are scrambling to create their own Starlink
India is already one of the cheapest service providers for such launches - ISRO puts 36 OneWeb satellites in orbit - https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/isro-successfully-... (They are ofcourse working to create a reusable launch vehicle too).
thisislife2··on Militaries are scrambling to create their own Starlink
Can you explain what makes Falcon9 / Starship special (or needed) to launch these satellites? China, India, EU, Japan etc. all have the capability to launch satellites. So why is a Falcon9 / Starship a particular requirement?

You certainly can sanction the "tanker". But you need to take police / military action, which is decidedly tougher and riskier.

> Got cancer, a new job,new boss in less than a year What do I do now?

Live in the now. Don't brood over your past, don't worry about your future, unnecessarily. You accept it and keep doing what you would normally do. Don't try to find meaning or ascribe some meaning to what is otherwise a natural process of our modern life. You have health issues, you get it treated it and try to live healthier. That's it (what more can you do?). You got a new job. Congratulations. Give it all you got as you would normally do. Your company got acquired, you got a new boss, your job sucks now. Skill up. Fight for your current job or search for a new one. (Also, talk to your old boss and close co-workers). Looking back at your past, or worrying about your future is only useful if it helps your present. Live in the now.

Iran has no choice. They've been observing how US destroyed and / or co-opted all their neighbours, one by one, over the decades and have been preparing for their turn for a long time. Americans and Europeans are in general, good people. But their political leaders, not so much. And this war is being run by a genocidal regime in Israel and the Trump administration. Moral values are the least of their concern ... (Also, I suspect the Israel regime of being the brains behind this attack. Hegeseth, the current Secretary of "war" is also a known muslim-hater, who wouldn't have been hard to persuade.).

Come again - what Russian fuel infrastructure is being targeted, with the Iranian war as a cover?
thisislife2··on U.S. Navy turns down Hormuz escort requests because of high risk
Sure, Iran (its regime) is bad.

Iran's neighbour, Israel currently has a genocidal regime (where Netanyahu is trying to become the Jewish Ayatollah by crippling its democracy with the help of his right-wing buddies) that has already massacred and injured more than 50,000 children ( https://www.unicef.org/press-releases/unimaginable-horrors-m... ). (The Palestinian genocide is still ongoing). The start of the Iranian war with a massacre of 100+ children suggest that an Iranian genocide too is planned.

America is today run by a President who believes that the rise of India, China, Brazil, South Korea, EU etc, means that American might will be challenged soon, and thus America needs to drop its facade of respect for international law and order and use its full economic and military might to strengthen itself. The Attack on Venezuela and Iran has no politically moral goodwill behind it and is a pure resource grab - it's just a return of imperialism not even trying to pretend otherwise, which none of us in the Global South (former colonies) wish to experience again.

So, tell me again, how is Israel and US morally better than Iran?

Russia no longer buys Iranian drones. Russia tied up with Iran to setup drone manufacturing in Russia instead, so that both can benefit ( https://edition.cnn.com/2025/08/08/europe/russia-drone-facto... ).
thisislife2··on U.S. Navy turns down Hormuz escort requests because of high risk
From the American perspective it's a plus - If Russia is getting richer (when it desperately needs the cash) it has an incentive to not get involved in the Iran war (at least in the short-term). (Remember that just before the Iran invasion, US and some of its European allies were suddenly capturing Russian "shadow fleet" oil tankers and increasing pressure on India to cut down Russian oil, and its oil revenues dropped drastically). If Iran can be conquered, Americans gets richer, gain more influence in the middle-east and the Europe (to whom they'll sell the gas) while the Russians will lose much of their influence in the middle-east.

As for Ukraine, nobody in the west really cares for it - that proxy war has given all the dividends it can for the west (EU has cut off all economic ties with Russia, EU is now dependent again on the US for its energy thus making the US richer, EU's next generation have now been brainwashed to hate the Russians again, Finland and Sweden have been successfully pressurised to give up neutrality and join NATO, Finland and Sweden joining NATO means the Arctic Council is now dominated by NATO - Arctic is where the west will next try to cut off Russian influence, Ukraine - which had a large territory and the one of the largest military in Europe - has been cut down in size and is now totally economically and military dependent on the west in effect a vassal state) and the Ukraine war is a stalemate now, where Russians will make slow gains as their army grinds down and keeps losing soldiers - and that's a plus too. As Russia becomes weaker, another proxy war or even a direct attack against it can be waged later in the future (maybe after Putin?). American deep state always plans long term - Death by a 1000 cuts ...

This seems like a fluff piece. The tl;dr is that mobile banking (not the "iPhone") is what "killed" bank teller jobs. You can add online banking, credit cards, debit cards, and all other cashless payment options to that too.
thisislife2··on U.S. at Fault in Strike on School in Iran, Preliminary Inquiry Says
I don't believe that - in my opinion, the school was deliberately targeted because the students studying there were mostly the children of Iranian military officials. Iran's military (surprisingly) has behaved in a very restrained manner in the last 2 years against Israel (and US), possibly on the advise of Russia and China, and that is why Israel and US have not been able to galvanise much international support for their aggression against Iran. The deliberate assassination of the Ayatollah (a religious muslim leader, who was 87+ years and soon to be replaced by the Iranians themselves) and targeted slaughter of the children of Iranian military officials is meant to provoke Iranians and Shia muslims elsewhere to commit acts of terrorism against the US and Israel. Then international outrage can be whipped up by the western media and NATO can be bulldozed to join the war and send soldiers into Iran.
thisislife2··on U.S. at Fault in Strike on School in Iran, Preliminary Inquiry Says
If you think 100+ dead children is the most horrific thing your government has done, prepare to be even more shocked - ‘Unimaginable horrors’: more than 50,000 children reportedly killed or injured in the Gaza Strip ( https://www.unicef.org/press-releases/unimaginable-horrors-m... ). But ofcourse, Biden says Gaza offensive 'not genocide' ( https://www.dw.com/en/israel-hamas-war-biden-says-gaza-offen... ). (And Trump wants to build a nice Oceanview resort and casinos in Gaza!). Note that the Gaza genocide is still ongoing, and Israel (with the full support of US) has now started harassing, killing and chasing away Palestinians from the West Bank too ...

I believe in karma and genuinely feel that the bad karma that the US has earned by supporting such wanton massacres and war crimes is going to haunt your nation pretty soon - this is all going to be a precursor to the downfall of the United States as a superpower and a nation. I don't see how you can salvage this in any manner - the nation may benefit materially in the short term, but the soul of the nation is surely doomed.

thisislife2··on Making WebAssembly a first-class language on the Web
This maybe an unpopular opinion, but I feel WebAssembly in the browser is the wrong direction - this vision to turn the browser into an OS so that we are then forced to rent every software through the "cloud" will screw all of us eventually. It is going to make the web less open. With HTML and Javascript (or even VBscript in the old IE), you could always look at the source. Good luck doing the same with WebAssembly. Soon websites will start bundling WebAssembly malwares and browsers will then also bundle an anti-virus (probably coded with WebAssembly) to counter it. Ofcourse, the anti-virus will need a "cloud service" so everything you do on the browser will be collected and sent "anonymously" ... good bye privacy.
thisislife2··on The U.S.‑Israel war with Iran could shatter the United Nations‑led global order
I read an interesting piece on this war somewhere that claimed that the Iran war is the first war that the US is waging without first politically appealing to its public. Historically, US administrations used to present some justification for a war and politically mobilise its citizens to support a war. And only then used to go to war (even if it wasn't usually called "war" - https://9gag.com/gag/amowD7v#comment ).

This is genuinely worrying. It shows contempt towards (American) democracy. Worse still is what it means - is this because of the changing nature of warfare?

AI, drones, missiles, missile-shields etc. means that unless you want to occupy a territory, you don't really need to send your army / troops to a country any more to "punish" them. If you aren't going to put boots on the ground, you don't have to worry about body bags returning home and generating (unmanageable) political anger. Thus, politicians (from superpowers) who hold a contempt for the general public may feel that there is no need any more to get the public's approval for a war as these "ungrateful" citizens aren't anyway going to volunteer for a war without a reasonable justification. The Gaza genocide has already shown that unless the victims are "white, blue-eyed blonde Christians like us" ( https://www.newslaundry.com/2022/02/28/europeans-with-blue-e... ) western politicians are genuinely not going to care about such kind of war crimes. Combine that with extremist right-wing views of a new wave of imperialism (that is all about "regime" changes and killing leaders to install puppets) all stemming from the right- in the US, a multi-polar world order doesn't just seem like a "nice idea" but a political necessity.

thisislife2··on The United States and Israel have launched a major attack on Iran
It's the same thing in Israel. Israeli-right nationalism is imbibed with ideas of a Jewish theocratic state, from the religious fundamentalism of the Israeli-right - that is why it religiously discriminates by giving preferential treatment to the Jews and proclaims itself as a "Jewish state".
thisislife2··on Lawmakers Want DoD Investigated for Biblical 'Armageddon' Claims
> Ambassadors do not determine policy, they maintain friendly relationships.

Yes, they however do spout the policy of the government they represent. And they are supposed to be diplomats (good diplomats do not say anything to jeopardise their country's relationships with other countries whom they call "allies" too).

thisislife2··on Lawmakers Want DoD Investigated for Biblical 'Armageddon' Claims
I never knew about "Christian zionism", or how it is so deeply tied with American politics till I watched these 2 interviews - https://tuckercarlson.com/tucker-show-fares-abraham-021826 and https://tuckercarlson.com/tucker-show-mike-huckabee-022026 (Yeah, I know it is from Tucker Carlson, and there is a lot of crap on his site. But there are some rare gems - good interviews - like these that offer us a rare insight into American and international politics. It is on his interview that the American ambassador to Israel publicly said that Israel has a "bibilical right" to the whole of middle-east and America is fine with those Israeli aspirations!)
thisislife2··on What if the Hormuz closure will not be brief?
They are helping Iran militarily and diplomatically. The last attack on Iran ended in 12 days. The Americans or Israelis haven't send any boots as a proper invasion requires. So they are just waiting and watching.
thisislife2··on What if the Hormuz closure will not be brief?
There is evidence they negotiated in good-faith because they deliberately involved a third-party as a mediator. Oman, who was involved in the mediation said a nuclear deal was nearly done (where the Iranians agreed to completely scrap the Obama nuclear deal for a new Trump nuclear treaty) when the US changed its mind and decided to attack them.
thisislife2··on What if the Hormuz closure will not be brief?
No, they don't import crude oil, but Russian gas by land pipelines.
thisislife2··on What if the Hormuz closure will not be brief?
Yes, a decade or two down the lane, all of middle-east will regret that they didn't do anything to check the US backed Israeli aggression in their region. The lack of political foresight and political will is really astounding (and surprising). And this is after the US Ambassador to Israel openly said that Israel has the "Biblical right" to all of middle-east, and the US is fine with that!
thisislife2··on Kuwait Shuts Production, Qatar Warns Oil Could Hit $150 in Weeks
I am not denying that Iran uses that as a leverage on its neighbours to keep them in check. Shortage of food and water is definitely the worst fears of the Arabs everywhere.
thisislife2··on Kuwait Shuts Production, Qatar Warns Oil Could Hit $150 in Weeks
Iran's logic is simple and easy to understand - if any foreign territory is used to hurt them, they will hurt them in return too. If a water desalination plant in Bahrain was deliberately targeted, the American military there must be responsible for it because Iran has been incredibly restrained in its retaliations:

> Iran said it was the United States that set a precedent for such attacks when it targeted a water desalination plant on Iranian soil. “The US committed a blatant and desperate crime by attacking a freshwater desalination plant on Qeshm Island,” Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a post on X on Saturday. “Water supply in 30 villages has been impacted. Attacking Iran’s infrastructure is a dangerous move with grave consequences. The US set this precedent, not Iran.” ... Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned on Sunday that Iran would be “forced to respond” against neighbouring countries if their territory is used to attack it. - https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/3/8/bahrain-says-water-d...

(Most western news media are terrible when it comes to middle-east reporting and only tend to parrot and enforce a one-sided western narrative.)

As for the fire in UAE’s Fujairah oil industry zone, as the media report say, it was caused by drone derbis (which means damage was caused by a falling debris of a drone that was destroyed mid-air). Nobody has suggested that Fujairah was the target. (Note that Iranian drones and missiles also lack precision. And Fujairah could indeed be a legitimate target for the Iranian military if the American military depends on it too).

thisislife2··on Apple Used to Design Its Laptops for Repairability
They are "garbage" (a gross exaggeration) because they don't have billions of dollars of research in designing and manufacturing them, and there is no longer standardisation of "repairable" parts (as nobody has an incentive to do so in the absence of regulation for it), which means everything is becoming more and more custom.
thisislife2··on Kuwait Shuts Production, Qatar Warns Oil Could Hit $150 in Weeks
What you are describing will remain a last ditch, desperate, "scorched earth" policy option for Iran. Iran will not bomb the de-desalination plants or the oil infrastructures of its neighbours as that would be a direct attack on these countries. If it does, it wouldn't be just fighting Israel and US but ALL its neighbours who would be forced to join the war. Currently Iran's rational and policy (that it had communicated to their neighbours before the war) is that if any military infrastructure is used on their soil to attack Iran, it would be considered a legitimate target for retaliation. Nearly all of Iran's neighbours host American bases (and some also have American and Israeli intelligence apparatus operating from there) (Iran conducted no attack on neighbors, respects their sovereignty, interests: Army headquarters - https://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2026/03/07/765072/Iran-conduct... ). Iran has carefully chosen to target only these - the American military bases and some hotels and buildings where American and Israeli intelligence operate from. There have of course been some collateral damage, as Iran's missiles are not precise. But Iran has been very careful - for example, when an Iranian missile (or an intercepted piece of it) struck a Saudi oil infrastructure, Iran's government immediately called the Saudi government and apologised to them and claimed that the oil infrastructure was not the target. (Of course, the scenario you outlined is why Iran's neighbour haven't joined the war, despite their antagonistic relation with Iran).
thisislife2··on Uploading Pirated Books via BitTorrent Qualifies as Fair Use, Meta Argues
Sadly, in many courts, when it comes to the corporate and the government, the judges rule on the axiom, "Show me your lawyer first, and I will rule, rather than show me the law, and I will rule".
thisislife2··on Kuwait Shuts Production, Qatar Warns Oil Could Hit $150 in Weeks
High oil prices currently benefits Russia ( Hormuz Shock Sends China and India Racing for Russian Crude - https://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/Hormuz-Shock-Sends-Chi..., and thus gives them an incentive (in the short-term) to distance themselves from the Iranian conflict. It also benefits America, as gas prices have increased due to low supply and logistics issues ( https://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-News/World-News/Europes-G... ), and the US now meets 50-60% of Europe's gas energy requirements (after Russian gas was mostly banned there). So Europe will now be partially funding the Iran war as they have no alternate sources (except turning to Russia, which is currently unlikely). Thus, Europe will have no choice but to support the war against Iran too. Iran of course, has a huge gas reserve that Europe has desired to pipe to itself, which is why the Trump administration is bombing Iran. It hopes to control Iran's energy supply (as it now partially does Venezuela's) and sell that to Europe (so that Europe is forced to depend on the US and never attempts to build an economic relation with Russia, which could translate to a more independent Europe).

Note that one of the stated goals of the Republican Party and the Trump administration is - Make America the dominant energy producer in the world, by far! and - Keep the US dollar as the world's reserve currency ( https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/2024-republican-pa... ). Both are linked - the only way the dollar can remain the reserve currency of the world is if the US control oil and gas production (petro-dollars).

Iranians, in effect, are sadly doomed as victims of modern imperialism (and even face a possible genocide from the current genocidal regime of Israel, as they are unlikely to surrender without a fight). It all depends on how much destiny / luck will favour them. If the other Middle-East countries get really jittery, they will pressure the US to end the war. Or, better yet, Iran may still get to retain some of their sovereignty if they can effectively and successfully block the Strait of Hormuz - China will then be forced to get involved in the war, siding with Iran, as blocking of the Strait could mean the death knell for its economy (40-50% of China's and India's oil and gas is mported through it). If China gets involved, the Russian too would be willing to get involved in the military conflict. India would also be forced to choose a side. We would then see either Word War 3, or Iran falling into the Spheres of Influence of China and / or Russia.
