thinkingtoilet··on Audacity 4.0
If anyone here has contributed to Audacity I just want to say thank you. I'm not a power user. I'm not in audio. However, over the years I have installed Audacity to do some audio things here and there. It has always been so useful.
thinkingtoilet··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
It's to increase output tokens. Full stop. You think the developers creating a state-of-the-art AI intelligence can't figure this out?
thinkingtoilet··on Since it was stripped of planetary status, Pluto’s defenders have been fighting
My goal is not to get them to see the light. You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into. These are profoundly stupid people who are confident they are right and everybody else is wrong.
thinkingtoilet··on Since it was stripped of planetary status, Pluto’s defenders have been fighting
They are absolutely crazy. There is no defending it. It is something that makes stupid people feel smart. There are easy, verifiable experiments that can be done and they refuse to accept the outcome.
thinkingtoilet··on Since it was stripped of planetary status, Pluto’s defenders have been fighting
This is hardly on par in terms of stupidity, but one thing you learn from flat-earthers is that humans love disagreeing with a consensus. Nothing make a certain type of person feel smarter than disagreeing with everyone. If you say the sky is blue I'm going to say it's green because I'm so smart.
thinkingtoilet··on Meta reaches $17B settlement over social media harms to children
Obviously it's not healthy to plop down in front of a TV for hours ever day. The science behind what social media is doing to young brains is very real, and to compare it to gameboy is arguing in bad faith.
thinkingtoilet··on Nebula Sans
The font looks great. However, I get the same sense reading bios of Grateful Dead cover bands all pretending what their doing is different when I read descriptions of fonts. You're not "forging a new legacy with a fresh take on the Dead", you're just another cover band. And this is just another font.
thinkingtoilet··on Disruption with Some GitHub Services
I don't think it's been "normalized". Github uptime is literally a joke in the tech community. They have first mover advantage and a behemoth behind them so they're not going away, but everyone knows how shit it's uptime is. It takes time for organizations to move away from services like this but I would bet anything that many are starting to try to move away, as well as new companies knowing they shouldn't use the service.
thinkingtoilet··on Taylor Farms: How One Company's Reach Became a National Risk
Our current government is actively rolling back safety measures so these single points of failure become much more pronounced. I don't know but I would bet that companies like this are actively lobbying to have those safety measure reduced. It seems like deflection what you're saying. Yes, things are better than before, but they could still be better and trying to stop people from talking about that isn't helpful or wise.
thinkingtoilet··on Meta reaches $17B settlement over social media harms to children
There are of course bigger threats, but have you ever talked to one of these gen Z zombies that have fried their brain on their phone? My nephew is one. He has the thousand yard stare, can barely have a conversation, and has no ability to do anything off his phone. Of course, it's not everyone, but the effects of phone use are beyond obvious and clearly destructive.
thinkingtoilet··on Nitter and XCancel receive cease and desist notices
It's not public. It's on Twitters private servers. And the people who posted it agreed to the terms. You have no right to any of this and you know it. You just want to have a right to it.
thinkingtoilet··on Nitter and XCancel receive cease and desist notices
>Why have we let X (et al) have total control over the content posted by the users ?

Because it is a private enterprise that you signed up for. You don't have a right to Twitter. You don't have a right to Facebook. If you don't like it, leave. The entitlement is massive here. These sites are poison in so many ways. Stop feeding the beast.

thinkingtoilet··on Bomb fishing is wreaking havoc on Indonesia's coral reefs
True. However, often times the people benefiting from this are plenty fed.
thinkingtoilet··on Anthropic's best AI model struggles to attract users as cheaper tools thrive
Ha! I 100% agree. Despite multiple rules in my cluade file it still talks like an insane person. I am getting irrationally frustrated at the output of these math equations.
thinkingtoilet··on Ask HN: Why do corporate failures always seem to punish the wrong people?
The term is "corporate psychopath". These are people that just do not see other people as people. I was a director (via an acquisition) for a global-mega-corp and it's literally a fucking game for the people at the top.
thinkingtoilet··on Sol loves to cheat
You were talking to math equations with no concept of what it was saying. It doesn't "enjoy" anything.
thinkingtoilet··on Sol loves to cheat
I meant they literally cheated. They got access to a benchmark when they shouldnt have and tuned their model for the benchmark.
thinkingtoilet··on Sol loves to cheat
>I think their agents regularly cheat in benchmarks

You don't even have to think about this. They have been caught cheating before. The will certainly continue to cheat.

thinkingtoilet··on Claude Code May–August 2026 weekly limits promotion
I'm getting to that point as well. Has anyone noticed that sometimes claude just seems way dumber on a random day? Like they're doing some internal tweaking? Also, I'm 100% convinced that it's verbose writing style is to generate tokens to make you hit your limit quicker. I have so many rules and it still talks in this bizarrely verbose, cryptic style where it's sometimes borderline impossible to understand what it's saying.
thinkingtoilet··on Incident with Github.com
Microsoft simply can not make software anymore. I worked at S&P Global and when you work at a global-mega corp, you quickly see why they lose the ability to create anything and just acquire companies to grow.
thinkingtoilet··on uBlock Origin Is Giving Up the Fight to Keep Ads Off Facebook
If you're on facebook, I don't take you're need for privacy or security seriously. I'm fine with this. Stop giving Zuckerberg more money and power.
thinkingtoilet··on London Underground begins scanning passengers' faces
Is that because it's actually safer or is it because they don't report crimes in an honest manner?
thinkingtoilet··on London Underground begins scanning passengers' faces
Don't forget it's constantly used to track, harass, and stalk the ex girlfriends/wives of the very fragile men in our police force.
thinkingtoilet··on The brain may be about to have its Ozempic moment
Millions of years of evolution and selection ending up at humans needing one food supply and lifestyle while modern life is basically the opposite. Endless calories. Sugar and meat everywhere. Our bodies are did not evolve for modern life. That's why.
thinkingtoilet··on Auto mode is now the default in Claude Code
There is no debate. It is not safer. I have to worry about HIPAA compliance and despite cluad files and some restrictions in the settings.json it still will try to violate HIPAA compliance from time to time. I literally can't make a single mistake. If you leave it on auto, it will mess up eventually.
thinkingtoilet··on Responding to the next frontier of critical cyber capabilities
Not only irresponsible, but seem to act like this was unavoidable and not their fault. The talk the engineers gave used a lot of passive voice. An "event happened" and not "we made a hacking machine and told it to hack so it hacked". These people have no idea what their doing and are happy to power forward with no care for the consequences. I hope they enjoy their paycheck.
thinkingtoilet··on FFmpeg 9.0
It's all about time in the day, my friend. Do you want to secure a feature used by 100% of your users or 0.01% of your users? Which has a better ROI?
thinkingtoilet··on Our position on open-weights models
I like how he cited the current Trump administration in section about stifling decent.
thinkingtoilet··on OpenAI Models Escaped and Hacked a Company in Cybersecurity Test Gone Wrong
I'm as skeptical of Open AI as the next guy, but what evidence could they provide to convince you? Surely it's just as easy to generate server logs and/or other items with AI to "prove" this happened.
thinkingtoilet··on Back to Kagi
Why is it bad if they're using other engines to produce results?
