thi2··on Beer CSS – Build material design in record time
The site is a terrible experience on mobile, not good for a first impression
thi2··on Automating myself out of development
There are tons of people, those are just not as vocal.
thi2··on "Don't You Just Upload It to ChatGPT?"
I wonder when this is posted about your or my profession.
thi2··on "Don't You Just Upload It to ChatGPT?"
I recently saw a video showing the french to german translation of a french McDonald's terminal. The translations were hilarious bad, like old school google translate bad.

Maybe McDonalds is big enough to not care about their reputation, maybe they are happy about the free clout from people making fun of them but they certainly chose to cheap out on translations.

thi2··on AI agent bankrupted their operator while trying to scan DN42
Calling a 6k bill "bankrupting" is a bit of a stretch.

e: Still a good read tho, not mad about being clickbaited

thi2··on If you are asking for human attention, demonstrate human effort
Not my experience and especially for juniors reviews were an excellent tool to learn and get mentored.
thi2··on Home alone: Remote work, isolation, and mental health
I can understand that being isolated is a real issue. But if your only joy and socialization happens in a corporate office you still have a problem.
thi2··on Roadside Attraction
The article is missing images. I used this dataset some time: https://www.kaggle.com/datasets/headsortails/us-roadside-att...

highly recommend going through it a bit, lots of fun pictures in there.

thi2··on Good sleep, good learning, good life (2012)
Or having to work, I'm not sure my boss would understand me missing half the morning because I was free running my sleep.
thi2··on Rockstar Games Hacked, Hackers Threaten a Massive Data Leak If Not Paid Ransom
And then they handed out free beer in the Paulaner Garten
thi2··on Am I German or Autistic?
60% german, 40% autistic. Seems fair since I'm german and work in IT. The rules question did not have an answer I liked tho.
thi2··on Git commands I run before reading any code
Why are those commits ending in the PR? Just unprofessional to work like that.
thi2··on Git commands I run before reading any code
Because I might want to go back to this current messy state but I don't want to commit it like this (hardcoded test strings, debug logs, cutted corners to see if something works, you name it).

I simply commit something like "WIP: testing xy" and if its working and properly implemented i can squash/rebase/edit the commit message and force push it to my feature branch. Using a Git client like Gitkraken makes this incredibly easy, takes seconds.

This way I can leverage version control without committing bogus states to the final PR.

thi2··on Automatically generate all 3D print files for organizing a drawer
Broken on mobile, cant scroll the results and the top is cut off.

This seems to be a common phenomenom with all those vibe coded apps. Bit weird since most traffic is mobile nowadays.

thi2··on Reports of code's death are greatly exaggerated
It is the same as adding dependencies or hosting on Azure/Aws, choosing a nosql db isn't it?
thi2··on Five Years of Running a Systems Reading Group at Microsoft
Any tipps on finding interesting and valuable papers?
thi2··on Five Years of Running a Systems Reading Group at Microsoft
Thats my experience as well. Of course not ten paper a day but some learning is always encouraged.

One company had a +1 day. You worked 4 days, had 1 day for learning - everything relevant for the job was fine.

thi2··on Kagi is contemplating the removal of the assistant from its professional tier
Investors want to see growth, chugging along is not the return they expect. It would be nice tho.
thi2··on Every layer of review makes you 10x slower
Its rare that devs are on standby, waiting for a pr to review. Usually they are working on their own pr, are in meetings, have focus time.

We talked a lot about the costs of context switches so its reasonable to finish your work before switching to the review.

thi2··on Launching the Claude Partner Network
Honestly I kind of envy the energy of these people.
thi2··on The engine of Germany's wealth is blocking its future
Maybe deploying was a bad choice of wording, I'm talking about setting up a new pipeline, for my repository with an internal tool. I need to speak to two different teams to ensure my CI/CD jumps through all the necessary hoops.
thi2··on The engine of Germany's wealth is blocking its future
I've mostly worked in smaller companies (max 250 employees) and recently joined one of the larger corporations (not automotive related).

The main issue I notice is how bad the communication is and how little can be done & decided. Before deploying a new Jenkins pipeline I need to speak to two different teams. It's insane how much time is lost doing meetings and syncs.

thi2··on The engine of Germany's wealth is blocking its future
Kurzarbeit is only available for a limited time and has the target to avoid layoffs resulting in much higher costs in unemployment payments.
thi2··on Doomscroll 14,333 cat pictures
> scroll

Yet the navigation on mobile through swiping is non existant

thi2··on Good EU regulations
What kind of strawman are you trying here?
thi2··on Using Home Assistant, adguard home and an $8 smart outlet to avoid brain rot
The hardest challenge is not using your phone when sitting on the toilet
thi2··on Claude Code feels like magic because it is iterative
Would you mind sharing good and bad examples of prompts? I always read comments like yours and miss examples.
thi2··on I read all of Cloudflare's Claude-generated commits
There is no real definition of a senior engineer. Just looking at years served seems is wrong imho.
thi2··on Digital Dinosaurs Supervising Medtech: Getting Audited by the Berlin Authorities
I worked for two years on a medical app. From my limited experience with audits it was more focused on everything being compliant with the ISO 9001 & ISO 13485. Actual tech audits never happend and stuff like Emailing scanned letters never occured. However this was in Hessen and not Berlin.

My point being I guess its ok-ish to not know what software libs are, the paper workflow is still horrible.

thi2··on Buffett to step down following six-decade run atop Berkshire
That has to be about a different Angela Merkel, the one I know had one priority: preserving status quo.
