theseadroid··on What Coronavirus Does to the Body
It's interesting that in your other comment you referenced another paper for a higher IFR although in this reference the model suggested 0.07%. So what do you believe? A higher total infection with a much lower IFR, or a higher IFR? Or you just pick papers that support your viewpoint for the sake of argument?

just wanna add to the discussion that there is a peer reviewed paper published today suggesting asymptomatic transmission is very likely.

A recent paper suggested that there is strong evidence that SARS-CoV-2 is not the product of genetic engineering.

I wonder if we shall take exposure density into consideration? If RF is emitted in all directions, the closer the phone to the body, the same amount of RF will be received by a smaller area of skin?

Informing is good, but that's far away from uniting/allying them.

Communicating/Interacting with ppl who have different opinions is hard enough. But what I meant by allying is even harder than that. It's to help them get the freedom they wanted first. It will be a long process but I think that's the only solution. Only when China is more free then HK will surely not lose its freedom. It's some effort to protest and wave US/UK flags during a protest. It's some effort to get US/UK to have economic sanction against CN. It's some effort to say we have done our best to inform mainlanders of what's going on. Not all of those effort will help and for the ones that help they are probably not enough. Only mainland citizens can make China more free. We can install a "democracy" in China tomorrow but if the citizens don't have the knowledge to use it then HK might end up in a worse situation, facing the full strength of the tyranny of the majority.

Chinese are sooo brain washed. Trump supporters are sooo brain washed. Seems there’s a tendency that for people we don’t really understand their motives, can’t take their perspectives we just assume they are brain washed. Like with that assumption we can just ignore any opinions that are different?
theseadroid··on Li Wenliang
If possible could you please provide some sources? Or it’s just heard in person? I’ve been living outside of China for years and read many pro independent sources especially during the protests but haven’t seen any on uniting with mainlanders. And during the protests I’ve seen reports of protesters trashing businesses that are related to mainland and infrastructure connecting to mainland. I don’t think they think every mainland business is CCP sponsored don’t they?
theseadroid··on Li Wenliang
Off the topic, but I feel somehow because HKer only wanted to keep the bad things out of HK, that made the mainland Chinese less sympathetic toward them. To fight against the bad things HKer have to ally with mainland citizens to fight together, which I don't think is being considered even. There's no 独善其身 in this.

Reading many Chinese sources made me doubt your assessment. Regular mainland Chinese are not happy. But not to the point that they are thinking alternative governance. Rather some of the anger are rooted with the expectation that the Party can be better in future.

I doubt many scientists don't know this. However the current situation is largely if not all motivated by how funding is provided. Instead of a culture issue, I'd say it's a money issue.

theseadroid··on Coronavirus Real Time Map
The problem is not many patients who have contracted the virus have released from hospital yet. Any there are many serious cases. From many Chinese sources such as [1], Chinese gov's data shows there are 4515 confirmed cases, 106 deaths, 976 in critical conditions, recovered and discharged only 60 cases. So I'm not sure how we should calculate mortality rate right now.

theseadroid··on In India What We Are Seeing Is the Symptoms of Fascism: Noam Chomsky
Inequality can be the root cause, but it is a hard problem to solve. Let alone powerful people who control the media would never want it to be solved. The result is people are not ready to face it directly. Instead they pick an easier solution such as fascism/racism, hoping the solution works somehow. Example: how many people blame foreigners for the absurd housing market? Because it's easier to blame someone else than thinking critically and find the root cause.
theseadroid··on In India What We Are Seeing Is the Symptoms of Fascism: Noam Chomsky
Because you probably live a comfortable life. For people who are struggling and see no hope of changing for better they often support more extreme policies just to "rock the boat". Years of rising inequality in many societies have created more people who'd like to have things change drastically.

theseadroid··on The Mortals Behind China’s ‘God Songs’
OT but I find the translation from 神曲 to God Songs very inaccurate. The word 神 has many meanings in Chinese other than referring to gods. Some related expression such as 这玩意真神 or 这人真神 would be more properly translated into: this thing/person is enthralling/magical/enchanting/hypnotizing.

神曲 would be the kind of songs that are so hypnotizing that you can't direct your attention elsewhere. And those songs might not necessarily be nice songs. They are referred to as 魔性洗脑神曲 sometimes, which is something like enchanted brainwashing hypnotizing songs in English. One of the first songs being associated with this term is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7U0EirV2Hw

theseadroid··on Online installment loans have taken the subprime market by storm
We can go into the debate of how much inequality is healthy for a society to encourage innovation and hard work. However in many parts of the world and even U.S. I would say many talented and intelligent people didn't even get the chance to work hard to earn something because the society didn't provide them such a chance. Your personal experience is moving but the reality is many people are rich not because they worked hard and many poor not because they were lazy. Those (extreme) inequalities are a result of injustice. If a society is too unfair, that will surely discourage people to contribute to the society.
theseadroid··on Online installment loans have taken the subprime market by storm
Yes. But no one is poor if everyone is poor. Poverty is a relative term. It's basically inequality in disguise.
theseadroid··on Online installment loans have taken the subprime market by storm
Just like the rich didn't get rich entirely because of their own abilities, poor people didn't get poor because they chose to. Placing the poor people in an environment where there are better education, better healthcare and better career opportunities always results in better financial decision making. So the society bears most if not all responsibilities.

How can we eliminate poverty if it's entirely personal responsibility? Let me quote Mandela on this:

>Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is manmade, and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. And overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice. It is the protection of a fundamental human right, the right to dignity and a decent life.
