therealx··on I Got Access to My Secret Consumer Score
I seem to have slipped through these cracks easily. When I do anything that involves pulling my credit, it's a hassle because I give my correct address information, however the credit agencies have out of date information.

Tips to slip through the cracks: have a different mailing vs home address, dont apply for new loans/update work info with existing creditors over more than one job cycle, move frequently. When your credit card asks how much you make, they are doing so because the agency doesnt have good info on you and they are updating their files.

Or have a battery that's shaped like a fuel tank? Maybe you won't get the same range as battery all over but it's prob enough for most people?
therealx··on Zappos 2012 data breach settlement
They have a formula for it and don't care one bit about it. Often times theres no SSL and many other security options are ignored.

I was shocked how much of law was simple find/replace on templates.

Most modern states just post a sign over the door prior to opening that X company seeks Y license and this location.
therealx··on Magic Mushrooms Can Help Smokers Kick the Habit
Safe injection sites don't decriminalize the purchasing, so the price structure stays prohibitively high and the social cost stays high.

Oh, hey, thats really nice of you. I'll buy Yev a beer for it.
therealx··on Social Networks That Failed
Wasn't it Microsoft and Outloook OWA that started XHttpRequest?
therealx··on Hiren’s BootCD Based on Windows 10 PE X64
I appreciate what they are doing, however I think some of the best utilities were the grayware semi-proprietary utilities that Hirens had all in one place.

Whats the joke I'm missing here?
therealx··on Ken Thompson's Unix Password
I got myself and my best friend in high school fired from a fairly good gig because I cracked some dumb passwords and a CEO took it the wrong way. I still don't think he fully forgave me for it.
therealx··on Backblaze 7.0 – Version History and Beyond
The MacOS market is big enough to support that - they prob manually call out the outliers.
therealx··on We are clueless about how long things should take
Using static typing on anything takes more time at first, but I agree that it saves time over time.
therealx··on We are clueless about how long things should take
I moved to desktop Windows development and couldn't be happier. People are more realistic, everything is more thought out and not a feather in the wind, and theres respect for time.

I used to work with cat scan machines a lot, and I found out how to emulate their dongle - you just returned 0 when it called for the check...
therealx··on Australia uses new technology to catch drivers on phones
I found the same thing - in the chezh republic, it was a far more free for all than any other urbanized country I had been to, however things ran way smoother because you counted on everyone else following no rules.
therealx··on Amazon AWS had a power failure, their backup generators failed
Is there a reason it often seems like backup generators fail? Is it that we don't hear the success stories of all the times they don't fail? Just due to not being tested often?
therealx··on DeepFaceLab: A tool that utilizes ML to replace faces in videos
I forged many documents in the early digital era because paper still had the trust of the darkroom era. Theres always a transition time like that thats very exploitable.
therealx··on Super Mario 64 has been decompiled
It's only because of time. If this were done on a newer platform/game or a game not as beloved, it would be closer to what you said.
therealx··on In effect, Seattle is decriminalizing the use of hard drugs
You're right, but I think they meant they spent that much less on hospital/public health spending.

A huge amount of drug users are very productive and go to work every day, but when they get caught up in the legal system they may lose their job.

therealx··on In effect, Seattle is decriminalizing the use of hard drugs
This feel ill informed. First off, to an addict, nothing is a better positive rewarder than drugs. Secondly, forcing someone to "kick" never works and in fact leads to people trying to use the same amount and overdosing.

I do think mental health services are whats needed.

therealx··on In effect, Seattle is decriminalizing the use of hard drugs
Drugs get sold for huge markups due to prohibition. A heroin user spending $200 or more a day is, in reality, only using $4 or $5 a day worth in production cost. Even with a huge tax, I'd be $15 or whatever.
therealx··on Amazon has proven unable or unwilling to effectively police third-party sellers
I bought a very nice pair of headphones (studio grade) for a few hundred dollars. One listen and it was obvious they were fake. A call to the company confirmed (via serial numbers and various questions about the item.)
therealx··on Amazon has proven unable or unwilling to effectively police third-party sellers
Yes, book piracy is huge.
therealx··on Productivity and the Workweek (2000)
I know the science has been semi-debunked, but I can't help but feel that the idea that you start your day with a fixed number of attention units is real. Meetings use up a higher number of units, and, once gone, you don't get them back that day.
therealx··on Productivity and the Workweek (2000)
The guy is, assuming some normalcy, unhealthy. Maybe he's very young and still in the learning phase where you're eating up all your time learning, or maybe some physical/mental difference (Autism, etc). He's clearly never been burned out, and notice he budgets no time for social activities. Very unhealthy.
therealx··on Productivity and the Workweek (2000)
Most people (me included) reading this think it's insane. I'm glad it works for you and makes you happy (does it?). I'm sure some pointy haired boss would love you.

TBH, if you said all this to me in an interview or cover email, I'd pass you over and maybe keep your email so I could show it to people at the pub after work for a laugh. I'm not trying to be mean, but maybe you're so deep in this that you haven't heard how it might be perceived?

You may think this is due to some buried jealousy at your ability to keep this up, but I promise you it's not. I'm thankful for the time I spent all day/night learning what I know, but I'm thankful for it because it lets me not spend the rest of my life in that cycle.

therealx··on WebKit Tracking Prevention Policy
Sure, but YouTube doesn't stop tracking you when you pay.
therealx··on GNU Radio 3.8
You'd need to get the secret info on the frequency hopping scheme as well as the shared encryption key. I've heard of units being ripped out of police cars for this reason.
therealx··on GNU Radio 3.8
Just get a $30 RTLSDR kit from Amazon. Plenty of easy/fun projects, only caveat is its read(listen) only. Track planes, listen to TV/Radio/watch your garage door clicker/listen to satellites/the space station/a million other things.

If you like it and want to take things further, buy a limesdr mini or bladerf or something. By then you'll feel constrained by the rtlsdr and know better what you want.
