therealx··on “How Could a Reasonable Person Ever Inject Heroin?”
It's also a series of small choices that seem even smaller given the situation and timescale. Everyone has their own story, but I've heard this one too many times. Imagine this is over the course of years:

- You feel chemically great due to this pill

- The pill stops working so well

- You find out, despite the scary name, that heroin is basically the same thing as the pill but a whole lot cheaper

- You're hanging out with the people you've met that do the same drug, and one of them offers to IV for you

- You debate it, but end up trying it at home

This is, of course, an oversimplification.

The opioid crisis was so awful because many people got to step 2 without realizing the path they were going down, and when the doctor/dea cut them off, it was easier to go down one step than go back. There should have been massive support in place.

Stay safe everyone, please.

I don't feel like the audio quality is actually any better than my headphones from years ago, it's just the bonus extra features.
therealx··on Airbnb’s Stunning IPO
I absolutely hate that. I've had AirBNB's tell me to take out the trash and the full gamet before leaving while still charging me $30 to clean. I refused.
therealx··on Airbnb’s Stunning IPO
It's often worse than what it replaced, too. Uber did well because the Taxi industry already had gone to such low low's, but the gig economy feels synonomous with an excuse to pay less than minimum wage to me.

The dispute processes make binding arbitration with a third party company seem desireable, and that's saying something.
therealx··on Airbnb’s Stunning IPO
Their dispute process reminds me of credit card chargebacks. They don't read the info you produce most of the time and make a call based on what's best for the company. I hate it.

I think the host caliber was much different then too. The professional AirBNB people had not setup shop.
therealx··on Airbnb’s Stunning IPO
I had a similar situation. I was very weary at first, but it was one of the best trips I had in a while. I still keep in touch with the hostess.

Theres a chrome plugin that fixes the pricing you mention such that the search page shows the true combined price.

Ha, that may beat my weird one. I was with an ex, and we rented a room in a home across from Golden Gate park. We cleared with the resident that we would be back around 2am, and that it would be fine.

At 2am, they got mad at us for making so much noise. THEN at 6am, they start blasting some ethnic music as they proceeded to fry food for hours and party. Turns out they were VERY Jewish and were celebrating the Sabbath being over. Surreal.

Maybe not murder, but I know women hesitant to stay in AirBNBs due to the stories of hidden cameras.

I don't remember anything that bad either. They didn't fit the thermal requirements of laptops that well, but even the G4 with Altivec was plenty fine for many things.

The Intel move still made lots of sense, but that didn't make PPC unuseable.

therealx··on We can have democracy or we can have Facebook
Advertising is already censoring these platforms, sadly. The gov doesn't need to get involved.
therealx··on We can have democracy or we can have Facebook
Packaged food doesn't have to list items if they are in small enough quantity. Many potential addicting substances would be under that allotment.

We should have the ability to control it all, though.

Same! I love my 70's bookshelf speakers and the amp is perfection. My sub is newer, but only early 2000's new (and I lucked into it)

A lot of wireless headphones have a small wired jack you can use in the event of no power.

I really hate that style of editing. Does it have a name?

The big signs include quick cuts of content you had just seen in order to summarize the story till then, previews before commurcial breaks, pre-starting the next episode (starting the next one before a break), and so many more annoying things.

The worst is when you binging it without ads - there's only 15 minutes of new content for the full duration.

therealx··on Google Alternatives
I really like Bing these days. Google has sanitized it's results so much that anything interesting is gone. Things off the top of my head: finding technical docs via searhing pds, "Index Of" listings, adult content (not even meaning porn, per se) - NSFW forums to come to mind (just look at how many subreddits are set to nsfw now), forums, etc etc
therealx··on Some doctors, therapists get Health Canada permission to use magic mushrooms
Also not on the scientific end, but if you search Reddit within specefic sub's dedicated toward the mental difficulties they are aiming to change, you'll find healthy discussion of the developments and personal experiances. Avoid /r/drugs and all those.
therealx··on Am I Disabled?
I really appreciate this post. I'm reevaulating what it means to be disabled. I still don't know how to answer, as I have learned to manage them very well, but I do still change my life based on it, and more improtantly, I think my life would have been very different without them.

Now that I've added a lower back injury to the list, I think it's tipping toward yes. Does anyone know if you say no on this form and then ask for an accomidation for something, like, say, a chair - is that okay?

therealx··on Cyberpunk 2077 a 'warning' about the future
I agree in general, but under a certain amount, it just takes you out of the moment too much. 25fps constant seems to be the start of OK.
therealx··on MDMA-assisted couples therapy investigated in pilot trial
I just checked erowid and it seems to be a very different experiance. Still seems interesting!
therealx··on MDMA-assisted couples therapy investigated in pilot trial
Many drugs are, but youre (I think), thinking of the study where they accidently used meth instead of MDMA.
therealx··on MDMA-assisted couples therapy investigated in pilot trial
Interesting. By abused, do you mean prolonged use over many days or large one time dosage or both? If the one time use definition, can you reach a threshold dose for what one considers an mdma experiance and still avoid the bulk of depression?
therealx··on MDMA-assisted couples therapy investigated in pilot trial
I haven't heard of it either, but it's mostly a proglonged, enhanced DMT trip, and I know people who got addicted to DMT, so I could believe it?
therealx··on MDMA-assisted couples therapy investigated in pilot trial
I actually had long term healing from MDMA, and had no problems putting it down at any time. Of course people with addictive personalities can get addicted, but thats true of almost anything.
therealx··on An unemployed trader who became a $700M exile
I think it's very unfair to give someone money and then demand it back. It puts people in awful situations financially. I know people that have been ruined via this when it happened with their taxes (and they weren't doing anything illegial) or unemployment.

They happen a lot with Postamtes too :/. Maybe it's locational?

I also noticed that Postamtes seems to give drivers either instructions or photos of last delivered foods based on time of day or something, as my deliverys between a bracket of hours are always in the same wrong unit, yet it's tons of different drivers and I complain each time.

therealx··on A man who posted himself to Australia (2015)
The money-in-a-mattress stereotype exists for a reason. Although in the past, their parents most likely told them some awful tales of banks becoming insolvent or screwing them, and maybe he didn't have good documentation to open an account?
therealx··on FireEye Shares Details of Recent Cyber Attack
Thanks. Any more info on the Japanese stuff you mention? I don't often hear about that (as you state)
