thehappypm··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
I have an Israeli friend. His answer:

This result is exactly what the anti-Israel coalition wanted. They bet Bibi would go nuts and burn up the remaining global goodwill that Israel had, leaving them isolated.

thehappypm··on U.S. Small Biz Can't Ship to the EU Anymore
This is not a tariff issue, unbelievably, but one about reducing competition.

I’m not sure I’m following the argument here, because tariffs are all about protectionism, which is a form of reducing external competition

thehappypm··on How GLM built its own inference infrastructure
Yes, but the lag time is crucial. The NY Times estimated that China has 10% the compute capacity of the US. They may catch up, but by that time the US labs could have too much of an advantage
thehappypm··on Radiation link in flight attendant's breast cancer, French court finds

Honestly, no. These weird states of matter have extremely different properties to ordinary matter. Weird properties is how we get things like superconductors, magnets, semiconductors, photovoltaics.. so strange state of matter with weird properties could very well produce some magic

Also net population loss of working age adults via deportation and self deportation.
thehappypm··on U.S. used 'virtually all' of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war
The objectives are wildly different.

Vietnam is more like asking the question, could the US Military occupy all of Iran? Which I think the answer is essentially No, just like Vietnam.

The strait is one small objective , and the US had lots of successes in Vietnam with capturing key strategic areas, they just couldn’t cover that into a successful occupation

thehappypm··on U.S. used 'virtually all' of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war
It is public opinion that is keeping the US from using boots on the ground.
thehappypm··on U.S. used 'virtually all' of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war
The reason the US can’t take the strait is that the war is unpopular and the American people don’t want it to happen. The US military could absolutely 100% invade and take the street, but it would be extremely unpopular and very expensive.
thehappypm··on U.S. used 'virtually all' of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war
I don’t know, the US is the world‘s largest oil producer, and there’s a lot of people in America who are very happy about the high oil prices. Doesn’t exactly trickle down to the average American though. But there are many other industries is that matter a whole lot more to the US economy, for example, if Taiwan stop selling chips to the US, we would be really screwed.
thehappypm··on Apple is getting this wrong
Nit-but Apple has fallen to Nvidia and Alphabet, which is a sign of the times.
thehappypm··on How to Survive 3 Years in North Korea as a Foreigner
The less snarky answer is that our current system does not have a functioning global government. There is no real “we”. Influencing how other countries operate can only be done by force or diplomacy, and because North Korea has nuclear weapons, force is basically off the table, and they’re not interested in diplomacy.
thehappypm··on Flavor Graveyard

thehappypm··on US battery manufacturing output continues to break records
How are rare earths used in batteries?
thehappypm··on Only 17% of all 64-bit Integers are products of two 32-bit integers
The simple explanation is just that lot of ways that numbers can multiply to produce the same product

Like an odd number x times an even number y, x* y produces the same product as x* 2 and y/2

Same for a multiple of 3 c and and a non multiple of 3 d, c * d = c/3 * d*3

thehappypm··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
