thegrim22··on A beautiful, broken America: what I learned on a 2,800-mile bus ride
America has been between 80% and 100% white and fairly homogenous for the vast majority of its history. It's only since 1970 that the demographics of the country were vastly changed.

thegrim22··on Boeing has now lost $1.1B on Starliner, with no crew flight in sight
Kind of interesting to think about relating this to the ongoing UAP hearings, where it's alleged that private government contractors overbill for projects and funnel the extra money to the UAP programs. Boeing has been mentioned by name a few times.
thegrim22··on Former intel officer says 'non-human biologics’ found at alleged UFO crash sites
If, as alleged, the government has been running a many decade disinformation campaign on the UAP issue, what are the odds that everyone in this thread is a legitimate commenter? To what level would comment threads such as this be manipulated in different ways in order to maintain/push the narrative the government wants? How do you even attempt to have conversations about something like this when such a powerful adversary could be secretly working against you, poisoning the conversation?
thegrim22··on [dead]
It's definitely interesting .. for the CVS data set, their numbers indicate that it's twice as likely for a 0 to 17 year old to get Myocarditis or Pericarditis from the vaccine (.0046%) than the CDC says the IFR rate from covid is (.002%) for that same age group (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/planning-scena...).
thegrim22··on Climate scientists flee Twitter as hostility surges
We'll, let's count the propaganda techniques in use here:

1) Typical loaded words in the title, "surging", "covid SURGING", "russia SURGING", "hostility SURGING", etc.

2) Not a single fact in the article, not a single study linked, 100% of the words in the article is anecdotal data. I would be willing to bet every penny of net worth I have that every person referenced in the article about their "thoughts" on Twitter leans extremely hard to one side of the political spectrum. This isn't impartial legitimate reporting.

3) Typical bias where they'll all day long, every day, post negative stories about Twitter, but would they ever, in any universe, to be fair and impartial, also post an article filled with similar anecdotal experiences of people that think Twitter is better now?

4) Of course it's just a hit piece to convince people to leave Twitter, now that the politics they represent have lost control over it, complete with calling out the service that people should now migrate to. Which is the entire point of the article.

thegrim22··on EVs are far cleaner than gas-powered cars even if batteries require more mining
You could provide even rough numbers to back up your claims. For example, personal cars being a "large part" of carbon emissions. A single container ship outputs more emissions than tens of millions of cars. What percentage of carbon emissions are actually associated with cars compared to the other behemoth polluters in the world?
thegrim22··on The perks workers want also make them more productive
So about WFH, the conspiracy theory is that all of these leaders across all of these businesses across the country are either incapable of measuring productivity, or they measured it and see that people are more productive when WFH and yet for reasons unknown want to bring them back into the office so they're less productive again, and make the business worse? They have years of data from before WFH, and years of data of WFH, and with all of that data, all of these companies across the country think what's best for their business is to bring workers back in. It just seems so outrageous to claim all of these companies have no idea or no data that justifies what they're doing.
thegrim22··on A deep-learning search for technosignatures from 820 nearby stars
There's been many such signals detected over the years, the issue is that the majority of SETI work seems focused specifically on only detecting intentional communication, i.e. high powered beacons set up to explicitly attract attention. That's why there's talk around whether the signals repeat, since they would in an intentional beacon that's constantly pulsing out a message. Of the signals that are captured that look suspicious, but don't repeat, some portion of them can be traced back to RFI, but the rest that don't have an explanation are just ignored since they don't repeat.
thegrim22··on Dropping the SAT requirement is a luxury belief
How is hiring a tutor "gaming" it? They spend extra time learning, and as a result they do better. It's not like the tutors secretly give them a cheat sheet list of all the test answers; they still have to answer the questions the same as everyone else. If somebody puts more time into studying, whether on their own or with a tutor or with their parents, they'll do better than somebody who didn't.
thegrim22··on Kerbal Space Program 2 Early Access Is Out Now
It's really shocking seeing 15-20fps at times, with an incredibly simple ship, when I'm rendering at only 1920x1080 with an RTX 4080 and a Ryzen 9 7950X. I know it's early access, but it's really concerning that they thought it appropriate to launch it in this state, and at full price. Delayed 3 years, and still looks like it's at least another 3 years away from any of the features that I was excitedly waiting many years already for.
thegrim22··on Dots Will Be Connected
This is contrary to the article, you're assuming everyone involved scanned the deluge of information and the only "rational" result would be to come to the same conclusion about an insanely complex situation as you did, whereas the article argues that there's so much information and so many dots that people scan the same wealth of data and come to different conclusions.
thegrim22··on Early morning university classes linked to poor sleep and academic performance
Ironically, when I saw the headline I thought to myself "what's with this conspiracy with people constantly trying to push this narrative that people should reject morning stuff", and then the top comment is complaining about a "conspiracy to make people wake up early".

From an evolutionary perspective I guess you can try to argue that in the past there was some benefit to some people being on a shifted schedule so they can stay awake to keep watch at night, but I feel like overwhelmingly throughout human history people mostly just naturally woke up when the sun rose and anyone that stayed at camp sleeping in, not helping with duties, was very looked down upon by the rest of the group.

thegrim22··on Amazon will require employees return to the office 3 days a week
To be fair, the evidence provided for why not to return to office also contains no data or numbers and is based purely on anecdotal personal opinions and feelings.
thegrim22··on The haunting brain science of long Covid
I mean, there's the possibility that they ran their risk assessment and just overwhelmingly came to a different conclusion then you did. It's hard to take long covid seriously when there isn't even an agreed upon scientific definition of what it even is.
thegrim22··on YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki is stepping down
Last I checked there were multiple direct replies to this commenting on how censorship issues weren't mentioned as negative, and now those replies are mysteriously all completely missing, which is about as ironic as you can possibly get. Comments complaining about censorship issues are themselves censored.
