Sorry
theflubba··on The overhead of abstraction in C/C++ vs. Python/Ruby
Very fair point. Thanks for replying.
theflubba··on Ask HN: Where do you see web and desktop apps in 5 years?
Desktop software dead. Software exists only on the internet. Browsers evolve into application runners.

Thin fucking clients.

theflubba··on The overhead of abstraction in C/C++ vs. Python/Ruby
I don't know if your solution is correct. Many functional abstractions in Haskell, such as those that involve high level typeclass abstractions, make code more esoteric, and not more clear. However this is a tradeoff to make code more based in algebra and logical structure. This is more important than readability and conciseness.
theflubba··on The overhead of abstraction in C/C++ vs. Python/Ruby
This article conflates abstraction with OO and language features, IMO.

Putting some functionality into an object is not as interesting as running that functionality as a monadic command.

Would be more interesting to run some benchmarks in Haskell using functional abstractions rather than OO machinery.

theflubba··on Show HN: Teleport – Lightweight JSON types
Just use protocol buffers. This can't really be a serious competitor to json/thrift/protobuf with no benchmarks and only a python client, sorry.

This isn't about web design. You should just add links to these articles on the article you submitted. Good for google ranking, increases the chances of someone reading them, makes user happy :)

.NET supports awesome meta-programming. CLR allows for some very dynamic types and programs.

I quit Chrome and turned off my computer after reading that sentence.

Internet high-five!
theflubba··on AngularJS Style Guide
Meh. NgAnnotate is way better than duplicating code. Be DRY, not pedantic.
theflubba··on Medieval Desktops
Try searching through a book vs. search for a tag within your tagged collection of data. It's a way more logical structure on the digital side.
theflubba··on Lennart Poettering on the state of open source communities
Do you even know who Pottering is? He deserves all this hate.
theflubba··on "Open Source is awful in many ways, and people should be aware of this"
POETTERING EFFECT - It appears that lately some Linux developers are concentrating on changing things (that work fine) with no particular reason, breaking existing functionality in the process and running away before the job is really finished (sometimes called the Poettering effect), while in fact it would be better to make a nicely polished finished system that can be used from installation without having to tune it up.
theflubba··on Lennart Poettering on the state of open source communities
Poettering is a complete asshole and deserves all the hate he gets. He replaces perfectly fine software with his own shitty code, and has done noting innovative in his entire life.
theflubba··on Refactoring Ruby with Monads
Because, you failed to properly set up GHC, you don't have the right to say anything about Haskell or functional programming.
theflubba··on Refactoring Ruby with Monads
No. Scala is a very functional language that you can write imperative code with. Swift is not functional and doesn't have real monads. Ruby monads are just a way of obfuscating your code. Monads are more than the monadic bind >>=. You cannot just use monads and ignore the rest of category theory, it's like using a stick to fix the engine of a car. Useless. Just use a real functional language so you don't have to deal with this tomfoolery.

Example of a real monad: http://www.haskell.org/haskellwiki/Monad

theflubba··on Idiomatic Generics in Go
Throwing type-safety out the window is so 2006. Just use Scala.
theflubba··on How to Go from App Idea to Launch in 4 Days
Lame. Appbase is for noobs.
theflubba··on I'm Leaving Mojang
Notch is an idiot. He should just ignore what people say on the internet, stop taking things so personally, and work on a new idea. There's nothing stopping him but himself.

theflubba··on Show HN: InstaMotor – Taking the pain out of selling your car
1. Take pic of your white van. 2. Post pic with description and mileage on craigslist. 3. Don't mention what happened in the back of the van in '99. 3. Get a couple emails. 4. Sell it to the highest bidder.

Who's too stupid to not figure this out and needs a service?

Okay, so they pay you more than the dealership. That's a selling point. But I could find someone on Craigslist and sell it to them for more.
