theduality··on Free DDNS with Cloudflare and a cronjob
I have been using this for a couple of years, ticking away on an RPi. Works perfectly.
theduality··on Cowboy rides to the rescue of VanMoof owners with app to unlock threatened bikes
Here in the Netherlands VanMoof has an _awful_ reputation for shoddy manufacturing and barely existing customer service.
theduality··on Apple Warns on Danger of iPhone 12 Handset to Some Users
That headline is a bit clickbaity, no? It is technically accurate, but the danger is specific to people with certain types of implanted medical equipment, and the risk comes from the magnets in the device, as opposed to some fault or otherwise.

I suppose "Apple publishes warning documentation about interference with medical equipment when using devices with magnets inside" doesn't quite roll off the tongue. Especially when the text specifies that "they’re not expected to pose a greater risk of magnetic interference to medical devices than prior iPhone models."

theduality··on More than 1/3 of all access to Google is now over IPv6
My ISP in the Netherlands (Ziggo) provides me with native IPv6 if I use their supplied router, but forces me onto IPv4 when I use theirs in bridge mode in conjunction with my own router.

Still not sure why they do that.

theduality··on Axel Rauschmayer made a list of small bugs in Apple’s products
I think a lot of these can be better characterised as "poor design or implementation decisions". For example, I would say "The settings of an app are separate from the app" or "Intrusive warning dialog when you are offline" are just bad design, rather than bugs.
theduality··on Gmail Services Global Outage
Issue affects my GMail account, but thankfully not any of my GSuite accounts.
theduality··on Ask HN: Which books are “must-read” for anyone trying to learn about your field?
For a general software developer, I have seen Code Complete (Steve McConnell) and Clean Code (Robert C. Martin) recommended a lot. I have copies of both on my desk at work.
theduality··on Optimization tricks in Python: lists and tuples
Also an amusing one: "You can't assing an item to a tuple:"
theduality··on A year with AirPods, or, how my AirPods fell in the toilet and lived
I also recommend the BeatsX. I honestly have no complaints, and they aren't deserving of the scorn the Beats brand normally gets.
theduality··on How Firefox Got Fast Again
Nothing, so far. I have completely switched in the hope that I don't hit a showstopper that makes me switch back.
theduality··on How Firefox Got Fast Again
I have been using 57 in beta, and I have to say, I'm impressed. It is a huge improvement. Whether it keeps me off Chrome in the future remains to be seen though!
theduality··on Show HN: IdeaValid – Let Artificial Intelligence validate your business idea
Firefox says "connection not secure", and the form at the bottom asks for your credit card number. Hmm.

Not saying anything dodgy is going on, but it doesn't make for the best first impression.
