thecopy··on Ask HN: How do you start over with 2FA after losing your phone?
This is what the recovery/backup codes are for. Unless you have saved them somewhere i would assume you have lost access unless each service has a support path for you

Swiss V-ZUG makes good appliances as well.
thecopy··on No, 15-Minute Cities Aren’t a Threat to Civil Liberties
That is great. Private car use is insanely inefficient, and has numerous negative externalities like toxic gas exhaust, increasing the risk of injury to people not in a car, and rubber particulates.
thecopy··on No, 15-Minute Cities Aren’t a Threat to Civil Liberties
Reducing car-dependency is great. The car-dependent lifestyle and urban planning is the Cigarrettes of the 21st century. When/if we manage to move our socity away from that, we will look back and ask: What were we thinking?

Im happy i live a life without the need of a car and without needing to spend this mental energy
thecopy··on Twitter's API is down?
Oh, it seems it was reset to use the algorithmic one. I for sure did not change that myself...

Thx for making me double check

thecopy··on Twitter's API is down?
The issue is not the ordering, it is that it contains tweets from people i am not following.

Before i could hide those by muting suggest_activity_tweet and suggest_recycled_tweet_inline

This does not seem to work anymore

thecopy··on Twitter's API is down?
I moved to Tweetbot a few weeks ago when using internal keywords to hide "X person liked...", "X person follows..." tweets stopped working.

Now it seems im forced back. ~50% of my feed was from people i dont follow.

Does anyone know how to hide those tweets on the timeline?

In this scenario: how does making buying illegal help the woman?

The entire market is pushed into the unregulated black market as a side-effect of making buying illegal. This world is dominated by criminals and gangs.

thecopy··on A homework question in someone’s 11th grade statistics class
In order to answer a question in the form of "what is the best approach" the student needs to know what they want to optimize for. There is no global optimization target, so without this the student needs to guess the underlying goal in order to say what is "the best".

Question is bad.

I agree, trains are more efficient for moving cargo.
thecopy··on All new cars sold in Europe must be emission-free from 2035
Fully agree. We need to shift away from car-dependency in dense urban centres. Why should everyone be able to drive their space-taking, noisy, toxic, air-conditioned box which is dangerous to everyone else into all strees in an urban centre? That the majority see no issue with this is society wide "Mere-exposure effect" bias in effect.
thecopy··on EU approves effective ban on new combustion engine cars from 2035
Wonderful news. I live in a European city, so i dont have a need to own a car, but i use my bicyle to get around town (all year). The city i live in has great air quality, and i generally avoid big car streets, but as soon as i get close to a larger road, or i get passed by a car (often hurrying to get to a red light further down the road) you really start to feel the exhaust. Inhaling and tasting car exhausts is terrible, and i think many car drivers dont think about this, as they are protected in their air conditioned box.
thecopy··on 'I have worked from home in 78 different countries'
The problem with combining travel and work is that the travel part suffers, and the work part suffers.

When traveling, i like to spend my energy on the travel, not stressing about work.

thecopy··on How to fuck up an airport
After arriving in a new city is it very mentally relaxing not having to understand ticketing pricing, zones, best way to navigate, understanding the differences between different types of trains/trams/buses.

Especially since airport <-> city is almost always a separate system as well than intra-city transport.

thecopy··on Making buildings, cars and planes from materials based on plant fibres
>Just 500 grams of platelets [from discarded carrots] can reduce the amount of cement needed to make a cubic metre of concrete by about 40kg—a saving of 10%. Dr Saafi and his team have now embarked on a two-year study to investigate the process in more detail and to perfect the best mix for use by the construction industry.

This is really interesting and fascinating. This seems almost too good to be true. Perhaps we are moving slowly to a return of natural components in our materials. Im thinking of a term of like "nature-punk" :)

thecopy··on The most livable cities
Zurich is interesting since on the outside and to a lot of people it seems to be a very boring city indeed. However, in my experience, under the surface there are a lof of cool things happening in Zürich. As well, don't forget that there it has a huge airport with connections to the entire world (only 10 minutes away with S-Bahn btw) and 2 hours train-ride to world-class skiing.

thecopy··on A first for Canada: New type of nuclear plant opening by 2028
I have never understand the economics argument. Either climate change and global warming are serious issues, and then slightly more expensive electricity should not matter - or they are not serious issues and we can keep burning coal and oil.

thecopy··on Recco
I often go backtour skiing in the Alps (this season >1 time per week) and i have never seen a RECCO locator. I have seen it integrated in clothers but im my experience its mostly beacons/PIEPS systems.

Does anyone know how they compare? It seems to be that the RECCO system requires a large detector which is not compatible with touring.

thecopy··on To stop building heat islands, stop overbuilding parking lots

Is.. this a bad thing? Why do you feel entitled to a great car driving experience in the densest part of downtown?

thecopy··on The Belgian government has removed ‘backdoor requirement’ from new law
... for now.

I am very pleased to see that the _current_ administration came to their senses and listened to reason. However, this is a fight i am afraid we will always have to fight over and over again unless right to encryption is codified in EU constitution or a similar document.
