the_narrator··on Engineer says Google fired her for notifying co-workers of right to organize
Based on the Google engineer's LinkedIn profile, it is obvious that using any gendered pronoun will be a touchy subject.
the_narrator··on Climate change and nutrient pollution are depleting oxygen from oceans: study
I agree, this is true. In this particular case though, there has been sensationalism for decades now - it tends to have the opposite of the intended effect.
the_narrator··on Climate change and nutrient pollution are depleting oxygen from oceans: study
That is the problem. Without actual proof of something, sensational headlines are mandatory.
the_narrator··on In Its First Funding in 14 Years, 1Password Raises $200M Series A
I am not sure what you are thinking of, but it isn't 1Password.
the_narrator··on In Its First Funding in 14 Years, 1Password Raises $200M Series A
I use 1Password 7 and only use a local vault (synced across devices with Resilio Sync). There is no reason you have to pay for a subscription if you don't want to.
the_narrator··on Facebook Pay
> I'm always wary of bank account details stored by a startup

Venmo is owned by PayPal

the_narrator··on Targeted ads are one of the world's most destructive trends
I have seen right-wing brought up multiple times, how does the same not apply to the far left?
the_narrator··on Setting up a home VPN server with WireGuard
I have been running wireguard through an AWS instance, so far at least I have had zero issues like you describe.
the_narrator··on Restoring felon voting rights a 'mess' in battleground Florida
Why is that surprising? If you kill somebody, you will obviously have some of your rights taken away.
the_narrator··on WeWork is planning to lay off up to 25% of its employees
> The main risk with We is that there's a recession, occupancy drops to 50%, and they're stuck with the leases. But that's not a unique risk.

What is unique is how massively overexposed they are to this risk.

the_narrator··on Ask HN: Which email software do you use on Linux?
Fastmail is no longer owned by Opera, it was spun off in 2013.
the_narrator··on Is the era of the $100 graphing calculator coming to an end?
This was common and well known even in the mid 90's with the TI-82. So much so that when my high school calculus class mostly bombed a test, the instructor asked us how we could have possibly failed his test when we were all using "notes" on our calculator.
the_narrator··on My father was IBM’s first black software engineer
So if IBM didn't suffer or (publicly) disclose huge losses, it doesn't matter that someone scammed them into hiring unqualified engineers?
the_narrator··on Hold That Recession: U.S. Indicators Are Trouncing Forecasts
you seem to be contradicting yourself

> a yield inversion may or may not lead to a recession

> all inversions eventually lead to a recession

the_narrator··on Test coverage only matters if it's at 100%
I think what really matters is that your test coverage percentage increases over time and never goes down. A goal of 100% might be ideal, but is rarely realistic.
the_narrator··on 16M Americans will vote on hackable paperless machines
that seems logical; I fail to understand the argument that some form of voter identification like this is 'racist'
the_narrator··on Uber Lays Off 400
Which would mean they do _not_ make a profit on each ride.
the_narrator··on IRS sends warning letters to more than 10k cryptocurrency holders
Basically, these all say the same thing and aren't _that_ scary aside from the fact they are from the IRS: Amend your prior returns if you owe money. I am curious if they expect the same if you lost money.
the_narrator··on Amazon wins ‘.amazon’ domain name, aggravating South American region
That tends to happen when you make up facts.
the_narrator··on What it's like to be a white woman named LaKiesha
The assumptions you make are amusing, and some might even say racist.
the_narrator··on What it's like to be a white woman named LaKiesha
1. It doesn't sound realistic 2. It is an article trying to push the narrative that everything is racist 3. CNN
the_narrator··on What it's like to be a white woman named LaKiesha
> That’s some terrible customer service.

If true, yes.

the_narrator··on Using Python to Get Free Chicken Sandwiches
This repo violates GitHub TOS, specifically it "contains or installs any active malware or exploits"

https://github.com/contact/report-abuse?report=baileywj+%28u...

the_narrator··on Archeologists Discover a Perfectly Preserved 4k-Year-Old Tomb in Egypt
Maybe you should send the site a list of domains you allow so they can tailor their articles for you?
the_narrator··on Facebook shareholders are getting fed up with Zuckerberg but can’t do anything
Complaining multiple times about being downvoted tends to add to more downvotes.
the_narrator··on I'm Joining CloudFlare
This post has hit number one on the front page, so I assume I am out of the loop; why is this significant?
the_narrator··on Google employees call for removal of rightwing thinktank leader from AI council
How is that not just a factual statement? Some may not like reality, but it is what it is.
the_narrator··on Paul Vixie thinks more people should be running their own DNS servers
I can't imagine using Google services if one is remotely privacy conscious. Just from your own defense:

Drive: > your data isn't scanned (except for...

Google DNS: > What logging exists is extremely temporary...

Gmail: > we receive your email, scan it for ....

the_narrator··on Npm Layoffs
Layoffs happen; these kind of whiny twitter rants aren't really helpful for anyone.
the_narrator··on Tesla laid off my disabled veteran husband then cancelled his sign on bonus
> I can't in good faith ever do that to a high-performing employee I'm making redundant.

How virtuous of you. What about a mediocre performing one?
