thbr99··on U.S. immigration policy has been a boon for the tech industry in Canada
CAQ govt is working on that. Soon will come a bill which mandates all employers to exclusively recruit French. Currently the ruling govt of Québec is anti immigrant and showing signs of a future separatist referendum. I won't be counting on Québec to stay in Canada in the future.
thbr99··on U.S. immigration policy has been a boon for the tech industry in Canada
Even if you get a CSQ from Québec, the Québec govt has made it such that you have to wait 2 years at Federal stage. While rest of Canada will get your permanent residency within 4-6 months with skills more in demand other than speaking French which your can learn anyway by immersion.
thbr99··on U.S. immigration policy has been a boon for the tech industry in Canada
In my experience, your level of customer service largely depends on your skin color in Québec.

White French > White Anglo > Rest

thbr99··on U.S. immigration policy has been a boon for the tech industry in Canada
Unfortunately Québec do not have a working skilled immigration system yet. Québec do not follow rest of Canada's immigration system. The CAQ govt. of Québec has completely messed up the immigration system of Québec. Québec focuses on knowledge of French rather than other merits for their immigration, so they get a huge chunk of unskilled immigrants who speaks only French with no employable skills.
thbr99··on U.S. immigration policy has been a boon for the tech industry in Canada
That's what's called chain migration. Just because your "uncle got a greencard" doesn't mean skilled immigrants get a greencard unlike your unskilled uncle. This is the kind of immigration that Trump wants to stop. You should not comment on things that you have no idea about.
thbr99··on U.S. immigration policy has been a boon for the tech industry in Canada
It stands to be seen how many of them will go back to US when the immigration policy becomes favorable. Canada is still plan B for high skilled immigrants. If H4 work authorization is removed, there will be a surge to Canada. Many US skilled workers do a soft landing to get their PR cards as a plan B. Canada should stop issuing PR cards for soft landers who are playing Canada's immigration system.

We have been using proprietary CANoe for well over 6 years. Will evaluate this. But don't know if corporate will like it or not.
thbr99··on EU beckons Indian tech talent
In CA, they call it mosaic. But this mosaic has lead to significant anti immigrant sentiments lately. See Québec's Law 21 and to some extend Law 9.
thbr99··on EU beckons Indian tech talent
Foreign products flood the local market and destroys local businesses. Eg: Walmart crushing local grocery stores in another country.

Here the product is human resources. Why is that a problem in the global economy. Have anti dumping or counter vailing for foreign labour too then ?

thbr99··on EU beckons Indian tech talent
This. The culture part. I have worked in US,CA,EU. I felt US was more accepting than any other country. There is a feeling of being part of US society even though you are a temporary worker. There is very less cultural discrimination in the US.

EU,CA are a conservative xenophobic bunch. Many immigrants in Canada who are now citizens still stick their native countries flags on their cars. I have only one question for them, if you like your native country so much, why don't you go back ? If you accepted Canadian citizenship, be like one.

thbr99··on EU beckons Indian tech talent
Going by the general tone of comments here. How about making something like the old Chineese head tax in Canada. Let's restrict Indians & Chineese and allow only whites to immigrate. Then I think it would be OK for everyone white. Racism, white privilege, white entitlement exists in HN at this day & age.
thbr99··on EU beckons Indian tech talent
If Indians and Chineese can live there with the salary they get. Why can't you ? What makes you different ?

Indians & Chineese are buying foreign products in their countries. Why can't other countries accept goods(human resources) in return ? It's a global economy.

thbr99··on Share Now, formerly Car2Go, is leaving North America
Probably car2go offices in Montreal had the infamous Québec customer service attitude.

Communauto is still surviving because they are backed by Québec govt paid for by the tax payers. Services such as Communauto and Teo Taxi should not be funded by tax payers. I mean take a look at Communauto website & app. Can't they do better ?

thbr99··on Share Now, formerly Car2Go, is leaving North America
Good riddance. They had very bad customer service at least in Montreal. It was worse than Communauto. I was also skeptic about the safety of their soapbox shaped small cars & their safety during winter riding conditions.
thbr99··on Boeing to Suspend 737 Max Production in January
What prevents them from selling the same broken stuff under a new name like Boeing 987 something and everyone will be cool with that ?
thbr99··on What Racism Sounds Like in the Banking Industry
White privilege. As a brown person who has been living in NA for the past 5 years, I thought this was something that black Americans use to play the victim. But now with my experiences, I slowly started to realize that yes White privilege is real and it's not going away anytime soon. I also find that this is not unique to NA. I am from India where the caste system is still alive & thriving too. Even for H1B, odds are in your favour if you are an upper caste along with your manager who is also an upper caste.
thbr99··on France, Spain, and Italy’s English skills are on the decline: study
That's good news for Québec where they have made laws to treat English speakers as second class citizens. Businesses in Québec are advised not to greet customers with "Bonjour-Hi" but just "Bonjour" to preserve the identity & French culture in Québec.
thbr99··on H-1B in 2020: Immigration Visa Faces Further Restrictions
The fact that you hold a permanent residency in Canada will help in demanding more salary in Canada because you are not at the mercy of your employer for your status unlike in the US where you are chained to your H1B sponsor.
thbr99··on H-1B in 2020: Immigration Visa Faces Further Restrictions

thbr99··on Drive drunk twice in Quebec, get ignition breathalyzer for life
I am more curious about the technology that Québec will use to identify groups of people online & offline to determine whether they are historic Anglophones in Québec or other anglophones from rest of Canada. Something like smart card ? It all seems a little bit crazy that how far Québec will go protect French in an English dominated world.
thbr99··on Drive drunk twice in Quebec, get ignition breathalyzer for life
Hydro Québec & other Quebec govt entities will soon have the ability to identify you as a "historic anglophone" for giving you services in English. Everyone else will get govt services in French. CAQ govt. says it will implement this people identification system as a part of Bill 101 enhancements.

thbr99··on Why Are Canadian Construction Costs So High? (2018)
Montreal has a never ending construction. A colleague of mine says the mafia controls the construction business in Montreal. Seems like corruption is a tad high in Québec than Rest of Canada
thbr99··on For six years, man who refuses to identify himself has held in a Canadian prison
A visitor visa is not legal immigration.

I had to state the countries I visited for the past 10 years. Jobs I had for 10 years, purpose etc when I applied for a visa. CBSA also did background checks on me, called one of my employers for verification. I figured all these by access to information reports later on out of curiosity.

How did this guy get a pass with CBSA ?

thbr99··on For six years, man who refuses to identify himself has held in a Canadian prison
Just fix the loop hole in safe third country agreement that's all.

thbr99··on For six years, man who refuses to identify himself has held in a Canadian prison
With illegal border crossing happening everyday at Roxham border, cases like these are bound to happen even more costing Canadian taxpayer $$$.
thbr99··on Canada is the world’s newest tax haven (2017)
It was a case of an over zealous employee following rules. That individual was lucky that she is white & French. She has also friends in Montreal CBC media. Hence the outcry."How dare you reject one of us"

There are many unlike her, who is not white & French whose applications got rejected in Québec immigration department's cherry picking. We will never hear their story.

The CAQ is pandering to its 37% of voters. Makes one wonder whether rest of Canada is ok with this openly racist policies of a provincial govt.

thbr99··on Canada is the world’s newest tax haven (2017)
Suspended doesn't mean it's cancelled. CAQ govt. is revamping their immigration policies. So far it seems they favor culturally fit Francophones from Europe than any other merit. They also have policies (Bill 21 & Bill 9) in place to discourage immigration from Francafrique countries.

I am sorry to say this but, IMO I feel like CAQ govt. is trying to cherry pick white French immigrants to keep Québec white. Everyone can argue that it's not the case, but they are implementing this system piece by piece over the years. The immigration system of Québec has removed 'D' Diversity from its name. MIDI => MIFI

thbr99··on Canada is the world’s newest tax haven (2017)
Yes Canadian immigration system is merit based and fastest in the world. But you will have to add an exception which is Québec immigration system.

Québec immigration system is broken, arcane and has unfair delays for merit based immigrants to Québec. Federal stage is 2 years backlogged. Express Entry in rest of Canada will take only 4 or 6 months.
