Once I had a website with very little information that could be used to track me down, however someone was able to and even sent me a message on Facebook. I've been very cautious since then.

I'd say use a real name if you need to 'really' contact them, if not make a fake email and use it, but be consistent.

Does that 5 friends rule still stand up? If 5 friends are using a service people will be willing to try.... at least that was an adage of the past.

This is bad, its basically giving Facebook ownership of a sites content. It maybe good for pulling in users but there is no such thing as a free lunch. I'd be cautious of implementing this as it increases Facebooks value by decreases the value of sites that use it. They loose control of the data and become forever tied to Facebook.

This looks pretty cool and I'm impressed that anyone could build something like it in HTML5, but as a non-gamer and someone who hasn't played a game like this before I wasn't really sure what I was doing or how I was suppose to play.

Yeah, this is what I was sort of going for, read somewhere (or heard) that people where leaving Facebook and moving to Tumblr cause it was 'fresher'.

That certainly is a possibility, although facebook seems to have a better hold of the market then myspace did.

as a side note that woman in the movie 'catfish' had 16 accounts.

Reason being, I'm developing a Facebook alternative of sorts. There are two paths, integrate Facebook Connect or just say no to Facebook.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, the course coordinator said he couldn't let me do it cause then anyone could say that is what they were doing.

I've had no big start-up yet, but I've found mini-start-ups a great motivation and learning experience. If you have something that you want to make you can learn while you make it, it will give you the motivation you need to learn (get your site done) and it will provide a great learning environment (building your product).

I'm in school for web development, since I got the basics of programming down in my second semester, I've learnt more from my own projects then school.

BTW is de-friending Facebook the 'big thing' these days?

Maybe these phones are an attempt to change the way people interact with their contacts. If it is executed properly it could be the pivot point.
