tharmas··on U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve Falls to Lowest Level Since 1982
Essentially the Iran war is to control (i.e. reduce) oil going to China. As long as the straight of hormuz being closed restricts oil being sold/sent to China, tRump doesn't give a damn about other shortages as a result of the closure such as fertilizer which will see food skyrocket in price and many people starve.

Isn't US domestic oil exported to EU and others because its medium to light crude which US refineries are not calibrated for? Its my understanding US refineries are calibrated to refine Heavy crude which comes mainly from Canada and some from Venezuela.

Huh? I'm talking about 2000-2022. Do you even know anything about Ukraine and what has being on there?

Shouldn't you be shit-posting on Twitter/X? Is that all you do is shit-post?

tharmas··on Suspected sabotage causes major Netherlands rail disruption
Does the West (EU/UK/USA) take any responsibility for creating conditions that made this war in Ukraine possible? Its ALL Russia's fault?
tharmas··on Australia 'on the same page' as Canada as it seeks deeper EU alliance
Where I live, I see massive amounts of homeless people that i did not see before COVID; despite the skyrocketing prices of real-estate before COVID. The high cost of housing was already a problem before these Wizards decided to flood the country with immigrants. They just looked at the problem of declining birthrates/population and said oh we need to import massive amounts of people in a short time to solve that problem. Narrow minded thinking. Just like Chairman Mao with the Sparrows. Look it up if you are not familiar with it. He saw the sparrows as a problem so decided to kill all the sparrows. By killing the sparrows he ended up creating a famine that killed around 40 Million people through starvation!

These clowns did something similar. They looked at the birth rates and decided to bring in massive amounts of people in, in a short time, without considering the problems that that would bring. So yeah, Chairman Mao "in the same breath".

Canada has one of the highest mortgage debt to GDP ratios in the world. That's high private debt. High private debt is what created the Great Depression in the 1930s. Bringing in massive amounts of immigrants fueled this taking on of high amounts of mortgage debt enormously via landlordism. So yeah again, Chairman Mao "in the same breath". Should mortgage defaults explode, its taxpayers who backstop CMHC. That could mean Jean Chrétien/Paul Martin style savage cuts to government services to cover those losses: i.e. austerity.

Ever since those 90s cuts to services we've had lots of people sleeping rough in the street who used to be cared for in mental hospitals. Now they roam the streets and stab people.

tharmas··on Australia 'on the same page' as Canada as it seeks deeper EU alliance
I was arguing that bringing in massive amounts of people in such a short time that the other levels of government have no time to plan to deal with the logistics of it. --to be clear, my anger is at the politicians not the immigrants.

And as another comment pointed out: yes bringing in lots of people puts upward pressure on rents and downward pressure on wages which will lead to an increase in homelessness and can lead to an increase in drug use as a result (of homelessness). And then a vicious circle of drug use contributing to unemployment and homelessness.

Did you knee-jerk it because I mentioned immigration? I BLAME the politicians NOT the immigrants. Look up how many MPs are landlords. They were blinded by their own self interest.

tharmas··on Canada welcomes EU proposal to become 'associate member'
But that's what i mean by this new category, its so they (EU brass) can circumvent the approval process. That's what I suspect.
tharmas··on Canada welcomes EU proposal to become 'associate member'
I have a feeling that this "made up name/category" will be a pretext for fast-tracking whatever they want to do with Canada-EU relations without the other members voting on it since the last one they tried to do is 10 years on and still pending.
tharmas··on Suspected sabotage causes major Netherlands rail disruption
You will recall the propaganda steering suspicion towards the Russians on the Nordstream pipeline.

Who has the most to gain by blaming the Russians?

tharmas··on Suspected sabotage causes major Netherlands rail disruption
or make it look like it was the Russians so you can get the public on board with a war against Russia?
tharmas··on Australia 'on the same page' as Canada as it seeks deeper EU alliance
Housing is a municipal jurisdiction, healthcare is a provincial jurisdiction and immigration (direct, temporary, students, refugees) is a federal jurisdiction (except Quebec has its own immigration jurisdiction).

Bringing in millions of people in a short time without coordination with other jurisdictions to manage housing demands, healthcare demands and needed infrastructure upgrades was grossly incompetent.

Not quite on the epic scale of incompetence as Chairman Mao and eliminating the Sparrow (in terms of consequences) but equally as idiotic in terms of narrow minded thinking.

tharmas··on Australia 'on the same page' as Canada as it seeks deeper EU alliance
That, and Quebec farmers and food security. Federal Politicians need rural votes to win elections and keep Quebec from separating. Also food security is important to any nation. And in light of what tRump has done it looks like and even more important goal.
tharmas··on German companies rely almost exclusively on AI models and services from the USA
AI is centralization of compute. And the new fortress USA makes that even worse.

Until we get local AI, which Anthropic and OpenAI are trying their hardest to skuttle, we are in big trouble.

tharmas··on The American Worker vs. the Most Qualified
Dont be fooled. The Repugnant Party doesn't give a damn for the worker either. Its all just talk to get you to vote for them. The Dumbocrats try to sell their story by claiming they support DEI to sucker those who lean that way into voting for them. Both parties are for the corporate overlords 100%.

tharmas··on Canada adds 75,000 new jobs in July, unemployment rate lowest in 2 years
Yeah, I wish journalists would just look up the EM-ployment rate and go from there. The official "unemployment" rate is based on who is collecting benefits. It doesn't count those unemployed but not collecting benefits.
tharmas··on Fed's Kashkari says 'now is the time to start slowly moving' rates up
>Apple has low volume sales?

In comparison. Android phones (in total) outsell iPhones because they are cheaper/more affordable. Sure Macs and iPhones may sell more than an individual non Apple brand, but collectively all together, the non-apple brands outsell Apple.

But it is certainly true that making high quality products doesn't necessarily mean low sales.

tharmas··on U.S. used 'virtually all' of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war
>TSMC now has fabs on U.S. soil.

It will take years to get to the level of skill TSMC in Taiwan has.

I don't think Washington should spend money and lives on defending Taiwan. My point is that TSMC is a very valuable manufacturer of chips so it will be a big loss in skill and technology for the "West".

Ultimately the destiny of Taiwan should be whatever the people of Taiwan wish but alas the world does not work that way.

tharmas··on Fed's Kashkari says 'now is the time to start slowly moving' rates up
Well, actually they have a new model. I call it the "Apple" model. Low volume sales on high value items where you can charge more.

Even NVidia has moved to this model: make your money from selling high-end GPUs for Data Centers and forget the low-profit margin (GeForce) GPUs for gamers/consumers.

The whole economy is moving to that model for many things.

tharmas··on It's not a fear of "AI communism"; it's a fear of competitive market capitalism
But increasingly this describes Western countries more and more, particularly the United States.
tharmas··on U.S. used 'virtually all' of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war
Fair. And I agree with nearly everything in your comment.

One thing about tRump, is that he is more blatantly obvious about the "bully" side of America. He is not the first bully; just the first un-subtle American bully.

What I find disturbing is the others who enable him. I've long despised the Repugnant Party for their anti-worker ideology but under tRump 2.0 they've gone to a new low that I never thought possible. As much as I despise tRump, the other Repugnant members of congress (the odd rare exception) are absolutely disgraceful.

And then is there is the feckless Democrats...
