th1nkdifferent··on FoundationDB 6.0 released, featuring multi-region support
Looks like you’re blaming Postgres for Something that sounds like Sequelize’s fault. You should try prototyping parts of your application in a language that is better supported. Last I used Sequelize I was disappointed at how poorly it fared compared to other libraries like Django ORM or SQLAlchemy.

I'm sorry Michelin star means squat for Indian food. I have tried both and they are pretty crappy.

I don't share the negative sentiments expressed by others in response to your question. I think things have changed significantly for the better. I'll leave you with these two images - you can decide for yourself if anything has changed:

Scroll down to India's map and play with it for a while and then ask yourself whether India has changed for the better.

You may not feel the difference as much as India's villagers and poor.

th1nkdifferent··on What the Indian head wobble really says
Just FYI - India is not a homogenous society. It has 22 official languages, 29 states + 7 union territories, 9 officially recognized religions.

So, no, there is no "Indian head wobble". What the fine article describes is a distinct cultural thing amongst a very specific subset of India's population that western society has encountered so far.

th1nkdifferent··on U.S. To Seek Social Media Details from All Visa Applicants
You obviously have not dealt with the US government. Take it from someone who was, is and will likely be scarred several years from dealing with the US Government (esp. US Immigration), this scenario is very real.
th1nkdifferent··on Amazon admits Alexa is laughing at people and is working on a fix
I don't think his response was "doubting" but rather disbelief. Given the circumstances, I would expect that.
th1nkdifferent··on SpaceX is set to launch its first two test satellites on Sunday
No. Any company can use existing satellite launch companies to launch their constellation. You don't need to be a "rocket company" first. There are plenty that can do this on the cheap - ISRO for example.
th1nkdifferent··on Udash – Scala and Scala.js Reactive Web Framework
Could you illustrate, preferably with an example, how weak type system would have worked better than a strongly typed system?
th1nkdifferent··on Udash – Scala and Scala.js Reactive Web Framework
This is just great. This is the web framework I have been hoping someone would make!
th1nkdifferent··on Udash – Scala and Scala.js Reactive Web Framework
Could you cite an example of how Scala is unsuitable for the web? Between Scala and JavaScript, I would pick Scala in a heartbeat for one reason alone - it's strongly typed. Both of them offer OO & FP.
th1nkdifferent··on Stream and Go: News feeds for 300M users, built on RocksDB and Raft
What issues did they run into with Cassandra? It's not easy to build a scalable database like Cassandra. There are good reasons to write your own distributed storage system but the authors need to add more details about Keevo and specific issues they ran into with Cassandra.
th1nkdifferent··on Leap: An Online Community for Women
I don't get it. How are these voices going to be heard outside of the echo chamber of the community? For voices to be heard by the broader population, the echo chamber needs to be open and inclusive.
th1nkdifferent··on Leap: An Online Community for Women
A community that is only for people who "identify as women" is _not_ an inclusive community. Perhaps your comment should read - "My goal is to create an inclusive community only for people who identify as women". That will more accurately reflect what you've created.

th1nkdifferent··on Leap: An Online Community for Women
I have a naive question that needs answering.

Is there a difference between a community for Women vs a community for anybody who wants a civil community?

From the discussion, I gather that women like 'women only' communities primarily because there are no "ill behaved", threatening men that turn away women.

Is there a place for a community for civilized human beings where everyone is included regardless of their gender identity?

I think gender specific communities creates a mono culture and punishes men who are civilized and know how to behave around other gender(s).

The real issue to address is to keep out the unruly crowd - regardless of gender.

th1nkdifferent··on Apple’s Refusal to Approve India’s Anti-Spam App Angers Regulators
Looks like TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has an Android version of the app as well (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=trai.gov.in.dn...). Permissions requested by the Android app seem to be very broad (Reading call log, Sending & Receiving SMS etc.) If they tried the same thing with Apple, I am not surprised that Apple has blocked their app. Such permissions can be used to easily snoop on a user's activity by Government entities.

What Mr.Sharma does not seem to get is Apple is very particular about user privacy. In the past users have been tricked into giving out their private data or scammed into subscribing to really expensive subscriptions by scammy apps (http://thehackernews.com/2017/06/apple-subscription-scam.htm...)

I am not saying TRAI's app is going to scam users but Apple's concern is genuine. TRAI can work around it by changing the away the app collects the spam call data from a user's phone. They certainly don't need the entire call history.

Here's where things get odd. TRAI has a tough job on its hands too. They cannot simply allow users to report any phone numbers as spam callers without verifying it. The reason is simple. It opens up the possibility of misuse via fraudulent reports. Those who have dealt with the Indian market will recall that fraud is rampant in the system - both by users as well as businesses.
