testing22321··on Learning Another Language May Be One of the Best Ways to Keep Your Brain Healthy
Go somewhere you are forced to learn and speak it.

Defaulting to your native language will get zero comprehension, which is much more frustrating than some.

testing22321··on Learning another language may be one of the best ways to keep your brain healthy
Yep, I learned Spanish, then French.

The trick is to immerse yourself. I spent 2 years in Latin America, then one in west Africa. If I wanted to talk to people, I simply had to learn.

Previously thought my engineer brain couldn’t do it.

> Its price reflects the sales expectations of Apple.

People famously said that of the first iPhone, expensive at the time.

Then about the $1k iPhone X.

Apple have made phones a fashion accessory and status symbol. I won’t be surprised if the Duo sells extreme well, even by iPhone standards.

testing22321··on Building a Linux GPU Driver for the M4 Mac Mini in One Month
I can’t help wondering if the whole process will be automated being an LLM.

Apple releases the M15, and using everything leaned while building drivers for the M4 - M14, the LLM just does the whole job and we have the drivers a day later.

testing22321··on US confirms for first time it has deployed space weapons
Hopefully our grand children are alive to hear that explanation.

In my experience at weight watchers, 99% of people trying to lose weight simply have no idea they’re eating way more calories than they need, and they have absolution idea how insanely calorie sense some things are, like cashews.

For Burt everyone they don’t need to count calories, they just need to knockout a few calorie dense things and the weight comes off.

testing22321··on Starlink Signal Leakage Threatens Radio Astronomy's Most Critical Frequencies
You mean privileged people in developed countries had it. Billions of people did not.

I’ve seen the first hand impact of starlink in communities that before had dialup as the fastest option from Australia to Tunisia to remote arctic Canada.

Medical stuff, school, talking to loved ones.

testing22321··on The EPA is planning to scrap public review rules for data center pollution
What are the odds right now this administration is still in power in 2030?
testing22321··on Movie Review: Musk
The great thing about robotaxi is we’ll get the real data. There will be no hiding when one seriously crashes and eventually kills someone.

Then we’ll get facts about deaths per miles driven etc.

News at 10: future products will surpass current products.

That is always true, in every industry.

I’ve never met the guy, but many reports are very bad.

> you see that he’s a creator of mirages who promises more than he delivers

There is no doubt he has promised many things that have never been delivered, or delivered extremely late.

He (his companies/teams) have also utterly changed the space launch landscape to the point of making the rest of the world irrelevant. Changed the energy market across the globe, delivered exceptional electric vehicles and (finally) put a car on the road for public use with no mirrors, steering wheel or pedals. The production line is also world leading, as stated by every auto CEO that has toured it.

Does he over promise and exaggerate? Undoubtedly.

But he does also deliver.

> It's a rock-solid video editor that I can spend a day in without having to worry about a crash.

Is that praise? I would hope the bar is higher.

I bought a used computer four years ago to edit 4K video, tens of thousands of raw files off my big Sony cameras, write, light code and research. Many thousands of hours of hard use.

In five years I’ve never had a single program crash and certainly not the whole system go down. Uptime is many months.

I thought that was the expectation

More imperative is that you _never_ buy one.

100% we should charge for long term environmental impacts.

Start with gasoline and diesel first.

testing22321··on Alberta (Canada) slaps punitive tax on solar panels
Two and a half years ago I bought 18 405w panels for $3,312 out of Saskatchewan. Have to add 5% GST to that.

Full retail.

Now 605w bifacial are $220 full retail, no bulk buy discount. I bet you can find cheaper.

My entire 7290w install all finished was $13k in BC. Much cheaper now.

testing22321··on Alberta (Canada) slaps punitive tax on solar panels
They’re cheaper than you think. Here are Longi 505w for $190 [1]

And 605w bifacial for $220 [2]

That’s full retail, not buying quantity. they’re cheaper wholesale.

Panels are much cheaper than that.

Here’s 31 445W panels for $4,650, full retail. This is literally the first google result I clicked.

testing22321··on LG TVs aren't the only ones spying on you [video]
It’s called “the idiot box” for a reason.

Don’t buy a tv at all. I have not had one for 20 years, never missed it.

testing22321··on LG TVs aren't the only ones spying on you [video]
Just don’t buy one at all.

Like HP printers. Don’t give your money to companies doing shit things.

testing22321··on Why are European countries moving their gold out of North America?
I’d be really interested to see all European countries & Canada dump their US bonds en mass if trump does anything untoward in Greenland, Canada or elsewhere.

testing22321··on True Rate of Unemployment
> there are too many jobs that do not pay enough to live on.

That may be the case in the US, but not so in other countries.

For example in Australia minimum wage is $26.44/hr. But If you don’t have a job, you can get between $740 and $1047 every two weeks as welfare, forever.

Employers know this. Employees know this. So a job has to pay decently more than that or else nobody will do it.

testing22321··on MapQuest app surges to No. 1 in Navigation after refusing to rename Lake Ontario
The rest of the world really should rename the USofA.

Maybe every month it gets a new name based on a global vote. I bet the names would be great!

Land of the orange.

Home of the rapists.

I run the last version I could fully buy before it went subscription based. It’s great.

> Not sure what Trump is looking forward to win with all these moves?

He just floods the media and everyone’s minds with a constant stream of junk.

Some is consequential, some is not. Either way, the stream is so continuous it is distracting from the actual important things he’s covering up (raping kids, creating his own extremely well funded gestapo, kidnapping presidents, murdering fishermen, fucking up a war he started, stealing the election, etc)

testing22321··on Google Has Removed MV2 Extensions from the Chrome Web Store, Including UBO
Funny enough I never left Firefox. It’s always been great.
testing22321··on Kids These Days
I felt the same way as an adult exploring Africa for three years. One guy even said I was a lion that grew up in captivity, so not completely wild.

“People in developed countries don’t know how to really live, they just die slowly”

Note that guy lived in the US for a decade, and his adult kids still do.
