testing22321··on Most data centers refusing to say how much water, electricity they use
> water usage is heavily overblown compared to the agriculture industry

Are you suggesting we should stop using water to grow food for humans?

testing22321··on NRC issues first U.S. construction permit for a BWRX-300 small modular reactor
For fun, Gemini says between 1.1 and 3.8 billion, and 3-5 years.

That number will decrease every month too.

testing22321··on NRC issues first U.S. construction permit for a BWRX-300 small modular reactor
Place your bets now.

Time until first power generated, and actual final total cost.

I’ll go 15 years and $10 Billion.

testing22321··on Vermont replacing power plants with home batteries
> the generator would have been only used for your needs.

God forbid we live in a world where sharing and helping others is OK.

testing22321··on What makes software development engineering
Immensely. Especially early in my career I felt very different to the comp sci grads around me. I was trained to think at a systems level, about consequences, about people and processes. In the first few months it was obvious to everyone I was a leader and quickly had a team.

Somehow I felt like I was thinking about the big Picture and the ramifications for the future, those around me were just looking at a tiny problem.

It also helped immensely for talking with the Engineers at various companies.

My education was like an electrical engineer is to an electrician.

testing22321··on What makes software development engineering
My degree is Software Engineering, and is fully accredited by the Australian Institute of Engineers.

It was two years longer than computer science, and all of those extra courses were with the “mainstream” Engineers.

testing22321··on SpaceX's Starship launching to orbit for first time ever today
It’s a test campaign to find the limits. They tested to failure on purpose.

Give it time, just like Falcon 9.

testing22321··on SpaceX's Starship launching to orbit for first time ever today
> Telecommunications.. Can scale only so much. Starlink is cool. Compared to Iridium it's way way cheaper. But demand is .. modest? It seems to only beats fiber on the ground in special situations

It is not designed to compete with finer. Go somewhere truly remote and see how it’s changing the world very quickly. I’ve seen it first hand in Arctic Canada, Australia and North Africa. Before starlink the best they had was dialup. Now they video chat family and doctors, do school online and so much more. Easily a few billion people will use it.

You also forgot about AI data centres in orbit, on which SpaceX have pegged virtually all their valuation in.

testing22321··on Nissan's third generation e-POWER powertrain
> A 2 hr trip becoming a three hour trip only has to happen to you once a week for a few weeks before you realize the limitations.

Even if you’re driving at 80, that’s a 160 mile trip. What Tesla does your gf have? What’s the range?

testing22321··on Owed a billion dollars in Nvidia stock
> People only come out of the woodwork because it suddenly happened to be worth a lot

Isn’t that the entire point of agreeing to be paid in options instead of salary?

testing22321··on How I changed teaching after AI managed to do all my homework assignments
What’s the difference in using an AI as a tutor or paying a human tutor?

As long as they learn.

testing22321··on Fifteen years later, the Apple Cards origin story
I still send hand written postcards all the time because I know people get a kick out of them.

Bonus points when you send them from a country people have to search a map to locate.

testing22321··on Geothermal heat map of US hot springs
Does anyone know how this was made, and if it would be possible to make one for Canada?

I’m a bit of a hot spring nut, having been to well over 100 wilderness ones, including a few that less than 5 people have been to in ~100 years.

I’m always on the hunt for new ways to find unknown or rumoured ones.

testing22321··on Italian parliament votes for return to nuclear energy
Sweet. Minimum 20 years and $20Billion before any electricity is produced.

I wonder how much solar, wind and batteries you could get for that, and how quickly it would be deployed

testing22321··on Pentagon says overreliance on AI contributed to missile strike on Iran school
This is the same response they’ll have when the AI launches nukes and starts annihilating the human race. No accountability till the end.
testing22321··on Apple has added persistent 'ads' to iOS, and it's driving users crazy
Tech radar has to keep the lights on somehow because they’re giving the article away for free.

Apple you paid a lot of money to already.

testing22321··on Apple has added persistent 'ads' to iOS, and it's driving users crazy
I set a do not disturb that runs 24x7 to turn that off
testing22321··on NASA’s Mars Sample Return mission is dead
You mean Like the Whitehouse press room today?
testing22321··on Learning another language may be one of the best ways to keep your brain healthy
Nobody said it was going to be easy.

Tons of people work remote from Mexico and Spain.

testing22321··on Apple M6 Pro achieves the highest single-core CPU score in Geekbench 7
We know they have them for internal use, it seems crazy they won’t sell a box with, 2 or 4 or 8 or 10 Ultras crammed in.
testing22321··on Learning Another Language May Be One of the Best Ways to Keep Your Brain Healthy
Go somewhere you are forced to learn and speak it.

Defaulting to your native language will get zero comprehension, which is much more frustrating than some.

testing22321··on Learning another language may be one of the best ways to keep your brain healthy
Yep, I learned Spanish, then French.

The trick is to immerse yourself. I spent 2 years in Latin America, then one in west Africa. If I wanted to talk to people, I simply had to learn.

Previously thought my engineer brain couldn’t do it.

testing22321··on Xcode 27.1 Beta Release Notes
> Its price reflects the sales expectations of Apple.

People famously said that of the first iPhone, expensive at the time.

Then about the $1k iPhone X.

Apple have made phones a fashion accessory and status symbol. I won’t be surprised if the Duo sells extreme well, even by iPhone standards.

testing22321··on Building a Linux GPU Driver for the M4 Mac Mini in One Month
I can’t help wondering if the whole process will be automated being an LLM.

Apple releases the M15, and using everything leaned while building drivers for the M4 - M14, the LLM just does the whole job and we have the drivers a day later.

testing22321··on US confirms for first time it has deployed space weapons
Hopefully our grand children are alive to hear that explanation.
testing22321··on Resistance Training Prescription for Muscle Function, Hypertrophy in Health
In my experience at weight watchers, 99% of people trying to lose weight simply have no idea they’re eating way more calories than they need, and they have absolution idea how insanely calorie sense some things are, like cashews.

For Burt everyone they don’t need to count calories, they just need to knockout a few calorie dense things and the weight comes off.

testing22321··on Starlink Signal Leakage Threatens Radio Astronomy's Most Critical Frequencies
You mean privileged people in developed countries had it. Billions of people did not.

I’ve seen the first hand impact of starlink in communities that before had dialup as the fastest option from Australia to Tunisia to remote arctic Canada.

Medical stuff, school, talking to loved ones.

testing22321··on The EPA is planning to scrap public review rules for data center pollution
What are the odds right now this administration is still in power in 2030?
testing22321··on Movie Review: Musk
The great thing about robotaxi is we’ll get the real data. There will be no hiding when one seriously crashes and eventually kills someone.

Then we’ll get facts about deaths per miles driven etc.

testing22321··on Movie Review: Musk
News at 10: future products will surpass current products.

That is always true, in every industry.
