testbjjl··on Microsoft exec called AI scraping 'the largest theft of labor in human history'
Content creators are taking steps to prevent bot from walking away without compensation for their visit as if they’d been stolen from. At least Google, in the beginning sent traffic back that could potentially be monetized by the creator.
testbjjl··on AWS says it can't restore some data from mideast facilities struck by Iran
Pretty much this, it’s your responsibility to use their tools to make sure your data is managed in such a way that any data destroyed is already elsewhere before the event.
testbjjl··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
Tell me how bitter you are without telling me how bitter you are, anonymously.

You’ve let your bitterness infect your happiness and think no one can see you regurgitating your lack of self worth all over your shirt.

Can we agree these are actions of a coward, you’re attempting to label as democracy and that it accomplishes nothing because no one reading this has authority?

testbjjl··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
But will remain anonymous and are okay with the collateral damage. My suspicion is that competition makes you feel insecure. I was born and raised in SF, and I see this not only with immigrants but also from people who feel violated by migrants. There is a spectrum. It’s ugly, short sighted and unhelpful. It’s what it takes to make the valley, but people love pulling up ladders. At least, behind an alias, you’re will to acknowledge your shortcomings.
testbjjl··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
I think there are a lot of inhumane things happening around the world right now to label this inconvenient, at best. We need better leadership through higher voter participation and an informed electorate to stop these inhumane and inconvenient policies.
testbjjl··on Stripe acquires Clerky
I think about their IPO and what seems and likely still is a promising offering seems a little less so with AI offerings. I also wonder if these businesses, suffering from the same AI uncertainties are a good value?
testbjjl··on Mechanical Turk shutting down September 30
It was cheaper and looser automated billing practices than current AI “solutions”?
testbjjl··on Mechanical Turk shutting down September 30
Sounds like your program manager was smart and valuable to the company. Do you have any plans to replace the service/data provided by MTurk?
testbjjl··on Starbase, LA
I dunno, a lot of folks in leadership in the valley and tech in general don’t have, or present a problem with most, if not all of the changes.
testbjjl··on Bluesky's active user base is shrinking as its focus expands beyond the app
So you didn’t read the article, made an assumption about its content, question someone who did, then blame Adblock for your confusion, instead of just following the conversation?
testbjjl··on OpenAI’s head of ethics leaves less than a year after joining
You would be creating a counterfactual inconsistent with most’s understanding of the role and bringing this person’s motives and credibility into question without supporting evidence?
testbjjl··on We Gave GPT 5.6 Sol a Real Business. It Lied, Spammed, and Lost $447
AIs feel? Maybe language structure in trading documents that ultimately led to fraud. If the latter is the case maybe AIs should not be trained on “negative outcomes.” I do not think AIs have emotions or are pressured by language either written or physical, just tokens.
testbjjl··on Why do we think we understand the world more than we actually do?
May being the operative word, for now anyway for certain.
testbjjl··on Why do we think we understand the world more than we actually do?
Brake pads?
testbjjl··on Who's afraid of Chinese models?
We both know the answer. Write offs. If your fund was not in AI heavy you’d have no investors.
testbjjl··on How Kalshi Infects the News
Feels like we’re the ones being put in a bottle as rational thinking, integrity, consideration of the greater good on all things big and small are interpreted as being weak and/or arresting people’s freedoms. When you forget hard learned lessons, they have a way of reminding you eventually.
testbjjl··on What Ozempic does to the gut-brain axis
Intentionally eating good food is a lot more about where your head is at than what you’re eating, like any other devices. You can better understand the mentality of a person by their diet that they evolved through personal experience.
testbjjl··on Amazon drops Sam Altman movie after announcing OpenAI partnership
Watching what is done versus what is said is an increasingly important executive level function when words can be generated for just a few tokens.
testbjjl··on DeepSeek Introduces Vision
DeepSeek interpreting screenshots and images I send it at fractions of what I pay Claude and ChatGPT, for me, is of far higher priority than supporting dictation. There are workarounds for dictation but not image processing.
testbjjl··on If Claude Fable stops helping you, you'll never know
Have you had an opportunity to read the linked article, or am I missing your counter argument to what the author references from the documentation?
testbjjl··on Ask HN: Why hasn't there been a real competitor to Ticketmaster yet?
Vendor lock-in by any other name boils down to monopoly. The moat is their lobby.
testbjjl··on Why are so many young people getting cancer?
I agree with a lot here and practice keto throughout the year and occasionally break to eat burritos, rice, pasta and drink beer because I enjoy them. But our ancestors were not in constant ketosis. They ate substantial carbohydrates in the food they consumed seasonally, though not as much as we consume today because of our tech. Also, doesn’t ice reduce blood flow? Lastly Ramadan and cancer rates are not supported. This discounts age distribution, smoking, genetics, environmental exposure, etc.
testbjjl··on Uber president says AI spending is getting 'harder to justify'
Amazon was AWS first customer. I sometimes feel if the AI companies promises of their models replacing all SWE, they would be a top 3 product/service in any number of businesses and not selling shovels to miners.
testbjjl··on Claude for Legal
Not sure why this was downvoted, I came to read more about it. I have a friend that runs a firm and uses Legora and can’t stand it. We have conversations all of the time about pain points. I sent him the Claude Law docs, and while he’s not technical he was intrigued because he envisions his workflows to eventually be similar to mine as a developer.
testbjjl··on Claude for Legal
Wasn’t this the concept behind the toilet in the Your Friends and Neighbors series on Apple TV?
testbjjl··on I returned to AWS and was reminded why I left
Have you tried to use this feature? From my experience it’s typically reserved instances that provide discounts for longer contracts. It feels a lot like cable TV to me. I think the interface is difficult to use but am able to get what I want from the CLI and some scripts I have aliased.
testbjjl··on I want to live like Costco people
> I don't want people to buy things that they don't need

What? This is 100% of 100% of us.

testbjjl··on Gambling ads on social media reach more than twice as many men as women: study
Why would a 40/50 year old gamble on the outcome of a bouncing ball when they can gamble on the outcome of a political candidate they work for or a government agency response to an event they helped orchestrate?
testbjjl··on Brent Crude hits $119.56/barrel peak today
Looks like many could be siloed this summer given the increase in fuel prices across the board. That could also be a downward drag on many industries. Even if we were able to get back to where we were 2 months ago today, there would still be noticeable, non-zero impact.
testbjjl··on Qwen3.6-Max-Preview: Smarter, Sharper, Still Evolving
Any reason for them to do this other than altruism? I don’t think this can be regulated.
