terpua··on Minimum Viable Product Detailed Case Study
This is a great find. Thanks for posting.
terpua··on Yahoo Chief: ‘We Have Never Been a Search Company’
Hallelujah! Thank you.
terpua··on Ask HN: What are you using for scaling, monitoring and analytics?
Auto scaling. The ability to bring up/down instances based on load and other metrics. Made an edit for clarification. Thanks.
terpua··on Ask HN: What should we do?
What are you trying to build and who is your target customer? It looks like an online db but why a calendar?

Read everything on http://startuplessonslearned.blogspot.com

That will help you flush the product more clearly.

terpua··on No Need to Change It
I refuse to re-code my python program in objective-c. Thank you pyobjc...I didn't need to change it.
terpua··on I Quit The iPhone
This Google Voice fiasco by Apple and/or AT&T is slowly mushrooming into a nuclear cloud. I wonder when CNN, BBC et al will start picking it up...

When this hits mainstream, who knows what kind of public backlash will ensue.

terpua··on Shock threat to shut Skype
Maybe the Skype founders just asked (or demanded). http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=725848

Or eBay did a IBM/MS/DOS redux.

terpua··on When to Stop Reading a Book
I stopped on page 1.
terpua··on Facebook: Share Photos and Videos Anywhere You Have Email
Weird that they would block non-US access to their blog.

terpua··on Yahoo to Acquire Xoopit for About $20 Million
Assuming VCs received the $6.5M before proceeds and let's say the VCs owned 50% and each of the 2 founders 10%, that comes out to $1.35M per founder. Not bad for 2 years work (plus learning, reputation, etc.).
terpua··on Yahoo to Acquire Xoopit for About $20 Million
I'm happy for the founders (not sure about the VCs...couldn't have made much if $6.5M raised) but for the life of me don't understand why it's worth $20M. I was an early user of Xoopit (for Gmail) and uninstalled it after a week. Using search was faster and easier.

Edit: at least for Gmail, Labs can easily add Xoopit's functionality.

terpua··on Guy Kawasaki: A Dozen Don’ts for Entrepreneurs
At least this one is getting discussion vs. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=682892

Goes to show that adding "Guy Kawasaki" to the title makes a difference.

terpua··on How to Apply to Y Combinator
Would you consider a competitor to an already YC-backed startup?
terpua··on Review my startup: vistrac.com
Congrats on your persistence. I like the homepage - clean. I also like the freemium model packages. I have never seen the form metrics before and looks quite useful.

Was that a feature based on feedback?

terpua··on Ask HN: Should I get U.S. citizenship?
With issues of this magnitude, talk to an immigration lawyer.
terpua··on Ask HN: I'd like to learn French without enrolling in classes
http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=656237

The article and discussions are helpful.

terpua··on AWS Start-Up Challenge
If you are selling something in another country, I would understand your point but this is a startup challenge. The onus is on the participants to see if their country will allow them legally. I would say that this would apply to over 90% of the civilized world.
terpua··on AWS Start-Up Challenge
You have to be from the US, UK, Germany or Israel to qualify. That sucks. You'd think that Amazon would at least cover the countries they are selling in.
terpua··on Entrepreneurs are not unusually risk tolerant; rather, they are overconfident.
Sounds like Atlas Shrugged 2.0 and a much shorter quote from John Galt.

terpua··on Rajeev Motwani, a Professor Behind Google, Dies at 47 - Obituary
Possible cause of death is drowning.
terpua··on Woobius introduces the construction industry to 21st century collaboration
Congrats Daniel. It's like Basecamp for architects. Re: your TC comment - is that 3000 users or customers?
terpua··on The Leap Of Faith
Further evidence that Fred Wilson is an entrepreneur's VC.
terpua··on Weebly Launches Free WYSIWYG Virtual Storefronts
A WYSIWYG for restaurants is also a nice target (built in menus, pricing, etc.). Perhaps with a built-in reservation system.
terpua··on How to Acquire a Company for Free
I would go so far to say that the HN community/startups are already "acquiring companies for free" all the time - open source software.

It's a ready-to-go free asset without which I wouldn't be able to bootstrap my startup.

Of course, we don't own the "asset" and as such, the distinction.

terpua··on The First Digg Developer Dispels the Myths Surrounding Digg & Startups in General
You'll now have to change your HN profile from the "built digg for $10/hour" to "$20/hour + equity" :)
terpua··on Finding Great Domain Names with Mechanical Turk
Matt, your site is crawling :( Perhaps you're getting to many HITs :)
terpua··on Why Sync Is So Difficult
We are working on a syncing product for companies and everything he wrote is spot on.

I would add that file locking issues is also a huge problem even when it comes to a simple conflict resolution.

Throw in case sensitivity issues, among others and yeah, sync is difficult.

terpua··on Chasing the Money: Stop Trying to Raise. Start Trying to Sell
A great read indeed. I recommend Steve Blank's book for further reading on getting and developing customers: The Four Steps to the Epiphany - http://www.cafepress.com/kandsranch.58024175
