terabytest··on HelloRun - A WebGL 3D Game
Well, it was taking a long time to load for me so I looked at the network panel to see what was being loaded and I saw the lightmap. I have a little bit of a background in 3D graphics/game development so it instantly came to mind.
terabytest··on HelloRun - A WebGL 3D Game
It uses a lot of tricks. The scene has a very low polygon count and the lighting is a pre-calculated texture.
terabytest··on Delete any Photo from Facebook by Exploiting Support Dashboard
The exploit is easy, but the implications are very dangerous. Such an exploit could have been automated to take down hundreds of photos before it was even detected.
terabytest··on Ember.js 1.0 Released
You might try Dropbox.
terabytest··on NProgress: slim, site-wide progress bars
One point I'd raise about this is that I think it's fine to be able to indicate progress, be it just to keep the user looking at something while the page is loading, but I don't like how it seems to duplicate the function of the other progress indicators the browser has. Seeing the rise of client-side web apps, a browser API to show progress directly through the browser's chrome rather than custom UI patters would probably be great and prevent a lot of the fragmentation that things like this might cause. Plus, the less-savvy users might come to expect to see this bar everywhere just because they see it on YouTube, which I think is not a healthy thing for the web in general.
terabytest··on WebGL to add 3D hover effects to your website
That to me sounds like you're saying cars would be better off without wheels.
terabytest··on Ask HN: What do you want to see in Rails 4.1?
What do you think about integrating https://github.com/charliesome/better_errors directly into rails?
terabytest··on My 32-year-old co-founder has a brain tumor
You kind of make it sound as if his brain tumor is more of an annoyance to you and your company than to him.
terabytest··on Mail provider allegedly used by Snowden suspending operations
Yes, we can.
terabytest··on Now set timer on Google.com
It kind of screws with my timezone. It's 5:50pm and if I query for "timer 6pm" it'll set up a timer for 2 hours and 10 minutes instead of just 6 minutes. Does anyone experience this? Is there a way to set my timezone?
terabytest··on Why no one is looking for ‘rockstar programmers’
The whole idea of a rockstar programmer is a weird one in my opinion. People who call themselves a "rockstar" give off a very arrogant vibe (at least to me). Even if they might be very humble when you get to know them (or open to feedback or what have you), I think the way they describe themselves still utterly trashes first impressions. This goes to say that I don't really see a point in acting like you're the best in class, if anything it puts you into more trouble when some people falsely assume they can expect big things from you.

If you know your craft, just let your work speak for itself.

terabytest··on Stripe Shop
The UI is lovely, although if you also sold some mugs I'd probably get one!
terabytest··on Samsung overtakes Apple as world's most profitable mobile phone maker
Doesn't Samsung produce a much vaster chain of models, which also contain very cheap versions which are obviously more affordable than Apple's? If that's the case, I think this statistic might be a little skewed, because it's pretty obvious that you'll end up with a bigger market share if you sell 10 different flavors of the same thing compared to a company which only sells one.
terabytest··on Apple’s Developer Center Is Back After Over a Week Offline
I really wonder what took them so long. Something was probably incredibly rotten down there.
terabytest··on Simple API with Nginx and PostgreSQL
Simple, you'd use a framework.
terabytest··on Handsome Stats: beautiful snapshot of your Google Analytics
The lack of labels on the axes of graphs actually makes it harder for me to read them, not easier.
terabytest··on Cameron ‘Porn’ Advisor’s website ‘hacked’ – Threatens/Libels Blogger
I think this was the right thing to do on his part. Things like this are unacceptable.
terabytest··on Ibrahim Balic breaks silence on hacking Apple developer site
With the iOS 7 launch already on a tight schedule this is a disgrace for both Apple and developers trying to renovate their apps.
terabytest··on Show HN: HN Special – A visual theme and Chrome extension for Hacker News
Glad it's working fine for you!
terabytest··on Show HN: HN Special – A visual theme and Chrome extension for Hacker News
Good idea!
terabytest··on Show HN: HN Special – A visual theme and Chrome extension for Hacker News
Many thanks to everyone for the feedback! I'll try implementing the ideas you've given me (easier to read colors and other tweaks).

For those who've installed the extension, it should auto-update when new features come up and you should be notified of the presence of new modules and the low-contrast theme.

terabytest··on Show HN: HN Special – A visual theme and Chrome extension for Hacker News
How do you mean? Are comments hard to read?
terabytest··on Show HN: HN Special – A visual theme and Chrome extension for Hacker News
That's very strange, I'm running the same setup as well. Have you installed any system tweaks that change the way fonts are rendered?
terabytest··on Show HN: HN Special – A visual theme and Chrome extension for Hacker News
I'm glad you like it!
terabytest··on Show HN: HN Special – A visual theme and Chrome extension for Hacker News
Probably, yeah. I'm not sure how development for Safari works, but I could give it a try soon.
terabytest··on Show HN: HN Special – A visual theme and Chrome extension for Hacker News
Thanks!

I'll try implementing a low-contrast version with less harsh colors soon! About the "Open comments in new tabs" option, yes, that's a very good idea. I'll do that as well!

terabytest··on Show HN: HN Special – A visual theme and Chrome extension for Hacker News
Oh, damn that's a mess. What OS is that?
terabytest··on Show HN: HN Special – A visual theme and Chrome extension for Hacker News
Oh yeah, I see. I think I'm going to try and implement a low contrast theme, with grey links and easier to read text. Thanks for the link, I'll have a look at it!
terabytest··on Show HN: HN Special – A visual theme and Chrome extension for Hacker News
Oh yeah, I'll try replacing those soon.
terabytest··on Show HN: HN Special – A visual theme and Chrome extension for Hacker News
I think so. Maybe try it out for a day or so. If anything's wrong, please let me know what you think!

Oh, by the way: even if you like the features but not the theme, you can easily disable the theme only from the settings menu at the top (the gear icon in the header)!
