tempodox··on Show HN: Lathoa, a math app for kids where the AI is wrong on purpose
This should be good training. Because the kids will encounter many, many more LLMs that are wrong on purpose, for the sake of propaganda and fraud. Teaching them early on that they can’t trust the machines is a net positive.
tempodox··on Show HN: Lathoa, a math app for kids where the AI is wrong on purpose
> And that can undermine the trust in the system.

That's not a bug, it’s a feature. Trust in the system would be severely misplaced.

tempodox··on Data Protection Commission fines Google €403M over processing of location data
They need to multiply by 100 to move that fine out of “cost of doing business” range.
tempodox··on Microsoft patches Windows and Excel – breaks audio, remote access, and paste
> I still cannot believe a company like Microsoft can fall so low.

They have always been so low. I cannot believe a software company can be so hilariously bad at their core business and yet rise so high.

tempodox··on Dario, Please
> Instead they're trying to monopolize biology.

That’s the recurring theme with these companies. They are not there to serve anybody else but only themselves. They let you use their infrastructure so they can collect all the knowledge and data, and then they take it from you to reap all the benefits and profits.

tempodox··on Making a Python interpreter in 1024 bytes
This seems to be in the same spirit as Justine Tunney's SectorLISP. Very cool.

tempodox··on Windows 11's "special" developer edition looks like another marketing misfire
> If Project Zenith is a "distraction-free Windows experience," does that imply that everyone else is using nerfed experiences with needless distractions?

Yes.

tempodox··on Nitter and XCancel resume service after legal advice
And the irony is that we don’t even need APIs for social networks to drown in botspam.

OK, that makes sense.

> branding suicide.

Or not. I mean, if you had no voice and nothing to say before, you can amplify that signal 10x now. Basically, you’re boosting your brand as a tasteless brainless schlub.

Shotcut.

tempodox··on "We Have to Assume That the Internet Will Go Offline in the Next Few Years"
Why, does Nvidia care what models run on their hardware? Are GPUs getting cheaper if they run open-weight models?
tempodox··on South African diamond mines are closing due to weak sales and lab-grown stones
Cool. I never thought I’d see the day.
tempodox··on OpenClaw 2.0, Accidentally
It's the lethal trifecta on steroids, sold to you as a feature.

Together with your point about convenience, it's the lethal quadfecta, as we can take the prevalence of convenience as a given.

tempodox··on We are not going anywhere
The LLM providers will be delighted. Everyone and their grandmother donating their means of production to them so they can sell it back at a price must be a wet dream come true.
tempodox··on I'm becoming AI-blind
Thank you for helping me keep my sanity.
tempodox··on Felony charges for citizen deleting phone data at US Border
> Our system is predicated on an assumption of innocence.

In theory. In practice, this is a hopelessly outdated supposition.

tempodox··on Felony charges for citizen deleting phone data at US Border
> None of those words what you think they mean.

And that alone is already a pretty scandalous problem. If the law is not stated in a way that ordinary people can understand, how the hell are they supposed to obey it? Those who cannot afford the highly paid law explainers are basically locked out of society.

tempodox··on Ancient Library – 1,060 Greek/Latin texts, click any word to parse it
I looked at the Latin. It would be nicer if they used the authors’ real names in the table of contents instead of the mangled and garbled leftovers. And spelling Iulius with a “J”, how dare they! But the actual texts themselves seem to be given flawlessly. No artificial distinctions between “u” and “v” for instance. Much appreciated.

Wouldn’t that potentially violate the Prime Directive? You could accidentally create AGI by exceeding the critical mass of slop.
tempodox··on Upper stage impacting the moon on 2026 August 5

My thoughts exactly.

tempodox··on Hacker Public Radio
At least after hackers hack the radio station to play some nice music. Wouldn’t that be a cool idea? The hackable radio station where you get your songs played if you manage to hack it.
tempodox··on RFC 8890 – The Internet is for End Users (2020)
It’s not the core infrastructure part that makes the internet worse.
tempodox··on RFC 8890 – The Internet is for End Users (2020)
With bots that break through cloudflare captchas. As a human, I immediately close the browser tab when I see one. If you make your site inaccessible for humans, only the bots remain.
tempodox··on How old is Ann?
It is well known that humans often fail at thinking. Using that as proof that machines can think only proofs that you’re human.

The recognition is represented by one word: Slop.
