tempodox··on Every company building your AI assistant is now an ad company
This is just an ad for maximally intrusive “AI”. We’re quite inured by now to all the dystopian nightmares, so this barely even registers.
tempodox··on FCC asks stations for "pro-America" programming, like daily Pledge of Allegiance
Dear Leader will appreciate your help with brainwashing the masses.
tempodox··on Facebook is cooked
With OpenAI leading the way with ads in their chatbots, that’s where all the money will be made. There are no ad blockers in chatbots. That’s why Zuck is frantically trying to catch up in the “AI” race. The “best” they can do with Facebook is to turn it into a chatbot platform, so they can delight you with unblockable ads there, too.
tempodox··on Privilege is bad grammar
The conspiracy theories about power signalling in the other comments are all well and good, but I have a simpler theory: U.S.-ians don’t know their own language, plain and simple. There’s a reason that American English is referred to as “English, Simplified”. The U.S. is a culture of barbarism, and language is one of the more conspicuous areas where it shows. I’d suggest that those who still know grammar and orthography are less victims of a power imbalance than just better educated. Or maybe their tastes aren’t as badly ruined yet.
tempodox··on I’m joining OpenAI
> the amazing ability to move fast and break things.

Or just plain recklessness.

tempodox··on AI is going to kill app subscriptions
This is yet another fairytale to sell us more “AI” subscriptions.
tempodox··on Ars Technica makes up quotes from Matplotlib maintainer; pulls story
It’s extremely generous to call deliberate slop generation an error.
tempodox··on Homeland Security Wants Social Media Sites to Expose Anti-ICE Accounts
Far too many criminals are being protected from prosecution by the Donald. He now has literal armies of criminals in whose best interests it is to keep him in office. Will they scoff at committing more crimes to make sure their protection doesn’t evaporate due to an election?
tempodox··on Homeland Security Wants Social Media Sites to Expose Anti-ICE Accounts
Sadly, a National ID scheme is by far not the only way the U.S. is backwards and barbaric.
tempodox··on America's Cyber Defense Agency Is Burning Down and Nobody's Coming to Put It Out
Some people have eyes and ears.
tempodox··on AI fatigue is real and nobody talks about it
How could you hold a dumb machine “accountable”? Attempting that would be insane. How would you discipline it? Reduce the voltage in its power supply?

Do you hold the dice accountable when you lose at the craps table?

tempodox··on AI fatigue is real and nobody talks about it
Never, ever have productivity gains improved the lives of those who do the actual work. They only ever enriched the owners of the factories.

But with “AI” the gain is more code getting generated faster. That is the dumbest possible way to measure productivity in software development. Remember, code is a liability. Pumping out 10x the amount of code is not 10x productivity.

tempodox··on Show HN: LocalGPT – A local-first AI assistant in Rust with persistent memory
Ran into a problem:

ort-sys@2.0.0-rc.11: [ort-sys] [WARN] can't do xcframework linking for target 'x86_64-apple-darwin'
Build failed, bummer.
tempodox··on Coding agents have replaced every framework I used
We’ve seen so many instances of Worse Is Better™ materialize around software development (and other areas) that I don’t dare to be as optimistic as you.
tempodox··on The AI boom is causing shortages everywhere else
> That pretty much tells you how this will end, right there.

It seems so blatantly obvious, yet nobody wants to listen, and practically everyone knows better. We live in interesting times.

tempodox··on The AI boom is causing shortages everywhere else
Anecdata: When it happens to me, disabling the VPN helps.
tempodox··on We mourn our craft
> And forget customizing or personalizing. That's right out.

Don’t panic, it’s only one additional subscription away. /s

tempodox··on We mourn our craft
To translate your answer:

- “You’re not spending enough money”

- “You’re not micromanaging enough”

Seriously?

tempodox··on A new bill in New York would require disclaimers on AI-generated news content
> This bill would require a disclaimer on something published. That’s a freedom of speech issue

They can publish all they want, they just have to label it clearly. I don’t see how that is a free speech issue.

tempodox··on Sam Altman responds to Anthropic's "Ads are coming to AI. But not to Claude" ads
What, can’t his “AI” replicate it?
tempodox··on Sam Altman responds to Anthropic's "Ads are coming to AI. But not to Claude" ads
Not yet. Just wait until he has all the power.
tempodox··on Microsoft is walking back Windows 11's AI overload
They’ve been losing it for many years now, it just has become impossible to cover up now for even the most casual observers.
tempodox··on Microsoft is walking back Windows 11's AI overload
Just like Windoze, macOS is not software any more, it has become a platform for rent seeking and money extraction. That shifts the priorities noticeably.
tempodox··on U.S. life expectancy hits all-time high
Only if you’re rich. While the non-rich can’t afford health care.
tempodox··on Swift is a more convenient Rust (2023)
It claims “native performance”, which makes me suspect it’s another Electron bloat.
tempodox··on Autonomous cars, drones cheerfully obey prompt injection by road sign
O brave new world of endless manipulation opportunities! Once we’ve trained a generation of humans to always do what their “AI” tells them, there will be no more disobedience.
tempodox··on A Step Behind the Bleeding Edge: A Philosophy on AI in Dev
Yea, if I were interested in that level of micromanagement, I would have become a manager.
tempodox··on YouTube blocks background video playback on Brave and other browsers
Where are the antitrust lawsuits when you need them?
tempodox··on Moltbook is the most interesting place on the internet right now
How is this supposed to be interesting? It’s bots wasting resources posting meaningless slop using software with gaping security holes. It might be mildly entertaining, if you’re into that kind of stuff, before it gets old. I find the ridicule and sarcasm that related HN threads pour over it much more interesting.
tempodox··on How ICE knows who Minneapolis protesters are
Trump, ICE, and all their accomplices don’t give a shit about legality. A law that isn’t being enforced is useless.
