tehwebguy··on The 'paperwork flood': How I drowned a bureaucrat before dinner
Yeah and wayyy more importantly cops don't get fired for not escalating and killing a guy!
tehwebguy··on Mystery jump in oil trading ahead of Trump post draws scrutiny
That and the Christmas Day Proclamation
tehwebguy··on I built an AI receptionist for a mechanic shop
Plus if he’s too slammed to answer the phone he’s too slammed to take on the missing work, most likely.
tehwebguy··on Drugwars for the TI-82/83/83 Calculators (2011)
Yes, I checked ticalc.org regularly in hopes of seeing an update to the Zelda: Link’s Awakening port proof of concept demo.
tehwebguy··on Afroman found not liable in defamation case
Even just in this instance justice would include damages for their destruction and an inquest into the warrant from the cop that wrote it to the judge that signed it.
tehwebguy··on Afroman found not liable in defamation case
I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them have already spent money in anticipation of a favorable judgement. Cops are largely immune from facing negative consequences so it was probably an incredible shock to lose.
tehwebguy··on Games with loot boxes to get minimum 16 age rating across Europe
Right, it’s a scam and age gating them just fuels age verification.
tehwebguy··on The Wyden Siren Goes Off Again: We’ll Be “Stunned” By What the NSA Is Doing
The interpretation of the law is classified? That’s stupid and everyone who protected that classification, regardless of whatever the interpretation is, is a traitor!
tehwebguy··on Fraud investigation is believing your lying eyes
Or Rick Scott's Medicare fraud lmao
tehwebguy··on [dead]
Just some ghouls trying to turn non-unionized workers against one of the only segments with union protections.
tehwebguy··on Everyone Is Stealing TV
> went around and made exclusive deals and forced us back into the same monthly amounts

I've said this for years but most people probably don't watch more than 2 streamers / month every month. Pay for one month at a time and be pleasantly surprised at how many months you don't pay for 1 or more that you're paying for now.

tehwebguy··on ICE expands power of agents to arrest people without warrants
In a hilarious turn of events the senate has passed a funding bill with the DHS bill separated out since this comment.

I don’t know if this means zero DHS funding until the piecemeal bill passes or something less dramatic but I fully expect they will break all previous records for funding DHS shortly after.

tehwebguy··on ICE expands power of agents to arrest people without warrants
Every senator and rep has to be replaced. They’ve funded DHS / ICE with more money at every opportunity since they created it.
tehwebguy··on Self Driving Car Insurance
One might imagine that lower courts won’t determine fault, one would be wrong.
tehwebguy··on Where to Sleep in LAX
There also might be a 2 hour line for the vouchers as I’ve experienced
tehwebguy··on Television is 100 years old today
Farnsworth…
tehwebguy··on The coming war on car ownership?
Are you talking about $30k or $10M though?

I think GP was talking about permanent, life altering injuries that require medical care until the (early) end.

The highest minimum injury coverage states in the US are still like $50k per person meaning complying with insurance law still leaves the most seriously injured victims (or their medical insurer) in the hole unless the at fault driver (if applicable) can pay.

tehwebguy··on ICE using Palantir tool that feeds on Medicaid data
The “opposition” has never not funded ICE. Throwing out national level republicans is not enough, almost all national level democrats have to be thrown out too.
tehwebguy··on Man shot and killed by federal agents in south Minneapolis this morning
Bro is like, “can we please stop talking about this extra judicial politically motivated murder and please focus on the semantics of my argument?”
tehwebguy··on Tesla kills Autopilot, locks lane-keeping behind $99/month fee
$8,000 / $99 / month is 6 years 8 months.

How long do people keep their Tesla normally?

tehwebguy··on Netflix tells directors to repeat plot for people using phones, says Matt Damon
People aren’t really watching <-> We’re making it unwatchable : chicken <-> egg
tehwebguy··on The Inevitable Rise of the Art TV
Yeah it's more likely done the way ACR is done! https://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/comments/1izq2oj/how_to_dis...
tehwebguy··on Pentagon buys device via undercover operation suspected link to Havana Syndrome
Jeez am I the only guy not making money on this grift?
tehwebguy··on The Inevitable Rise of the Art TV
Amazon literally invented the class of products that sit in your house and listen to you
tehwebguy··on Is Craigslist the Last Real Place on the Internet?
Partly true but partly because FB shows you items you didn’t ask for from locations too far away.

Also several times per day Facebook Marketplace tells me there are new listings that match my saved search when there aren’t.

tehwebguy··on ICE Is Going on a Surveillance Shopping Spree
Institute for Justice is representing a handful of citizens suing ICE for arresting them anyway
tehwebguy··on ICE Is Going on a Surveillance Shopping Spree
I'm afraid this will come across as bad faith but it's not: ICE is indistinguishable from a criminal gang to the people they encounter.
tehwebguy··on Everyone hates OneDrive, Microsofts cloud app that steals and deletes files
Better question: who the hell is giving these apps (or really any apps) five stars?

I don’t rate the apps I use unless other than to give it 1 star for doing something I hate. My banking app’s transaction search doesn’t work at all, so it gets 1 star. But 1.9M ratings resulted in a 5 star average — who are the freaks giving their banking app 5 stars and why?

tehwebguy··on During Helene, I just wanted a plain text website
Other Helene stuff I took note of:

- AT&T was completely down for us but Verizon and its MVNOs were up

- I had a Verizon MVNO secondary e-sim that came free with a home internet plan, unused until the hurricane hit

- It worked pretty well!

- The day the Verizon disaster internet trucks showed up at the police station in our town my Verizon MVNO internet went down

Non-internet learnings:

- Fill up your vehicle’s fuel or battery before any big storm, we spent a lot of time siphoning and otherwise consolidating fuel to get ourselves and neighbors out of town, particularly because we didn’t know how far we’d have to go to find a gas station with electricity

tehwebguy··on NYC Mayoral Inauguration bans Raspberry Pi and Flipper Zero alongside explosives
Over under on cops just calling anything with an exposed circuit board is a Raspberry Pi anyway (à la grandparents calling any video game Nintendo)?
